Blood Clots From Yasmin!!
Yesterday afternoon I brought my wife home from the hospital after 7 long days. A week ago she started having severe chest pains, so we went to a Promptcare the next morning. They found nothing major wrong, and sent her home with pain medication. The pain grew worse through the day and we went to the ER early evening. Blood tests revealed her DVT level to be over 3800 (normal is below 500)!! A Cat Scan revealed that she had three blood clots - one in her shoulder and one in each lung. The ONLY factor she had for blood clots is birth control pills! Multiple doctors confirmed that it had to be the Yasmin that caused it. ... more »

My wife was on Ortho for around 3 years before giving birth to our son. After finishing up breast feeding she had some depression issues so her gyne put her on Yasmin. She's only been on Yasmin for a short time (around 3 months now I believe). My wife has to take shots twice a day to prevent farther clotting, while also taking pain pills and coumadin. Hopefully the shots will stop soon ($100 per shot/twice a day!!), but the pain is expected to continue a few more weeks (although it's better than it was) and she'll be on coumadin for around 6 months.
The first night we were in the hospital I thought she was dying because the pain was so bad that she could barely breathe.
I'm obviously thrilled to have her home now, and I can't think about what almost happened. My wife is only 25 years old, with no previous medical problems. She's a non-smoker and rarely drinks. She deserved better. Has anyone sued the manufacturer before? I don't like how people seem to sue others at the drop of the hat, but I think my wife deserves to be compensated for her pain and suffering!!
