Wellbutrin Pyschiatrist, Hair Problem, Bloodwork, Cold Hands, B Vitamin
I'm a 22year old female. I decided to try wellbutrin 100mg (generic buporion) in the beginning of Jan. The first month went great and i didn't know hairloss would be a side effect. When I ran out of my prescription I refilled with 150mg Budeporion and I didn't have such energetic days with that brand. I kept taking it though and I noticed my hair getting oily really fast and extreme thinning in the front and around the sides. Also my hair wasn't as nice and loose. It was really tangly and dry and coarse. I stopped taking Wellbutrin for a few weeks because of the hair problem. Immediately, my hair stopped being oily, but was still falling out but not as much.
I looked on forums and I discovered the Brand name of Wellbutrin might not have as many side effects and also might work better. So I got a refill for the brand kind and was excited to try wellbutrin again hoping it might work better w/o the side effects. So I tried it, and my hair got oily again and continued to thin out.
Now I stopped taking it all together, I've been off of it for about 2 weeks now and my hair is continuing to thing out especially in the front, but it is also going towards the back too. When I touch my head I can feel my cold hands on my scalp. I never had this happen to me before. Wellbutrin is the ONLY ssri I've taken. I take a complex b vitamin, biotin, and a multivitamin as well as iron every morning (even before i started the wellbutrin). ... more »

I have went to see a dermatologist at a hospital and they didn't give me any advice but took my bloodwork. they said it was not the wellbutrin.
i talked to my psychiatrist who prescribed it to me, and he said it isn't in the medical records that hair loss is a side effect..once again..unhelpful. My parents say they can't notice it, but I notice it and my boyfriend does too, and I am not trying to wait until its NOTICEABLE ffor my parents to be convinced.
I feel completely hopeless and do not know what to do. I read about some of you guys mentioning Rogain for women, and natures plus ultra hair supplements. I am planning on buying them asap and starting them and hoping that the THINNING STOPS.
I'm really stressed out about this, on top of that. I think I have gained weight on wellbutrin. I am just frustrated that I ever tried to have a quick fix using wellbutrin and even more frustrated that no one thinks its the wellbutrin that is causing the hair thinning. OBVIOUSLY it is.
If anyone has overcome this HAIR ISSUE please let me know what you did and how long it took to stop? Thanks so much!
