I have been searching for a class action suit against Tri Lo-Sprintec. I am having many of the same symptoms I see other have posted. Lowered sex drive, anxiety, mood swings, breast enlargement, facial skin spots (permanent) along with others changes.
I am most concerned, that I have never had any female problems. No missed cycles, regular menstrual symptoms and easily went on Ortho Tri Lo, having no spotting, I stayed as regular since first starting my period. I was very happy with the birth control.
When my pharmacist, due to insurance switched me to Sprintec, I didn't think twice, I have had many other generics prescriptions over the years, never having a problem.
NOT the case with Tri Lo Sprintec !!
Within 60 days after switching, I had severe cramping pains mid cycle. Within the next 12 hours I had heavy vaginal bleeding. I immediately got in to see my doctor and she did a pelvic then and there. She was concerned that my cervix was closed. My bleeding was not just a simple hormonal mess-up. I had a negative pregnancy test and The Dr. felt I may have had a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was sent to ultrasound and they found what looked to be the remnants of a ovarian cyst rupture or ovary tear, but hard to tell after the fact. I bled heavily for a week.
I continue to this day, 7 months after this started to have lower pelvic pain, that the doctors are not sure about. Last month I was hospitalized in severe pain, another ultrasound, I now have 2 cyst on the left side and a fibroid on the uterus. This has all happened in a 6 month span!
Three months ago was when I was informed Tri Lo Sprintec was pulled by the FDA. I believe there is more issues with this than just patent names.
Many serious side effects, some that are permanent. My Dr. is ordering a endoscope of the Left ovary now. I am coming up at the end of my child bearing years, now having serious concerns if health wise I will be able to.
Has anyone else had sudden appearance of ovarian cyst or fibroids show up that they never had before?
If anyone knows of a link for class action lawsuit against this drug company, please inform me.
Wornoutmom - I am wondering if the same as I had. I took sprintec 1/28 and hot horribly sick. Gained weight, splotches in my face (that are still there), heart papls, shortness of breath, head aches, blurred vision (which has not gone away), fatigue, moodiness, the list goes on... I now have breast cancer. I found forums with the majority being ill on it. I was on northo ovum 1/35 for like 20 years with not one problem. Please let me know if you find such a lawsuit. This one should be off the market!
Momindailypain - I have had severe weight gain and pelvic pain for the last 19 months. It all started while taking sprintec for only 3 months. Doctors have given me a diagnosis of endometreosis. I had 2 surgeries removing ovarian cysts within 6 months of taking the pills, and still have daily pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and the list goes on. I've gained over 25 pounds since taking the pills as well. I am very interested in knowing if there is a lawsuit as well.
Kendra1 - My story is like yours. I'm very healthy and active and since my first period I was like clock work, every 28 days and my period would last about 5 days. Then I got married and due to insurance reasons I started on tri-sprintec. It was ok for about 6 months, then I started having extreme nausa and bleeding during sex, 2 weeks before my cycle was supposed to start, and week or so after that severe pain on my left side. But because my husband and I were in a foreign country we couldn't go to any reliable doctors. Except I was able to get a pregnancy test which came up as negative. I immediate stopped taking the pills but nearly a year later and I'm still having symptoms. The symptoms now include swelling of the belly (not pregnant), and weight gain. We just moved back to the states so I'll definately be going to a doctor. But if there is a lawsuit out there, you can count me in!
Mels81 - I am also looking for any information on a MDL with tri-sprintec. I just turned 31 a week ago and this past December 2011 I had 2 strokes. Doctors concluded this was due to the birthcontrol medication as I'm a healthy non-smoking female, this should not have happened. Has any one else had the same issue as myself?
Nolabear99 - I am 30 years old and have been on tri-sprintec for a while. I started having sever pains on the right side middle of my back and trouble breathing. Come to find out I have two blood clots in my lungs. My doctors say it was the birth control. I really hope there is a law suit so they cannot get away with this.
Cjlusby - I had the same thing happen as Nolabear99 last November from tri-sprintec. Had so many blood clots in my lungs that I have lost a portion of my lung function. I almost died. I do hope there is a lawsuit soon.

This is Melinda, I've been talking with my attorney, he's had an expert in Oregon looking over my case. They've concluded that my initial case is very favorable. He's also told me basically "the more the maryier." which means more who come forward with having issues with this medication, the better it will be for all of us.

I took sprintec about 2 yrs ago after having to be switched for insurance reasons from orthocycline. took that for about 8 yrs before my husband and I decided to have a baby and never had a problem. My period was like clock work and I never missed a period or bled in between. The 2nd month I was on sprintec I suffered massive bleeding and was hospitalized, had to have surgery and the dr said she was about to do a blood transfusion because I had lost so much blood but they were finally able to stop the bleeding. They werent sure at that time if it was the bc but she switched me to orthotricyclen to be on the safe side. I'm a veteran so presciptions are mailed from out of state so about year ago my prescription was delayed in the mail and I didnt want to skip a month so my dr said it would be fine for me to take the pack of sprintec I had (hadnt expired yet). Within 48 hours I began bleeding severly again and had to have surgery again! The dr said without a doubt it was the sprintec and ive been suffering with pelvic pain ever since. Putchinn - I am 28yrs old, and I was just released from the hospital on Tuesday for acute PE. I was on tri-sprintec for the last 5 months and started experiencing difficulty breathing. A trip to the ER gave me the most scary news of my life. I'm a non smoker, completely healthy otherwise. The thought of almost dying was a difficult thing to deal with. Now i'm beginning my 6 month treatment with coumadin. These people are laughing to the bank at our expense...it's not fair. I was quite surprised to see that soo many of you were affected by this pill. Obviously, it needs to be revised.

Bbrgrl68 - I have went thru the same health problems as all of you. Was put on SprinTec just a few months for female problems, then a few months into treatment became short of breath & very sick! I complained to my GYN about pain in my left leg but she didnt want to hear it since it was NOT her field of expertise. A month later wound up in the hospital Intermediate Care for 8 days with a DVT and MULTIPLE pulminary eboilisms...almost DIED! Something has got to be done!! I am taking blood thinners, follicles acids and iron pills. I have been suffering from extremely heavy cycles and severe abdominal pain. Babybird - I too have been searching the web for a class action suit. I started taking this drug last year two months later had TWO strokes. My doctors have not explanation for the strokes they took me off the pill and I have had not further problems. Debos4life - My name is Melissa and at the end of May I was put on Sprintec. 2 weeks later was admitted to the hospital with 3 blood clots in my right leg. One of these was in my femoral artery and I almost lost my leg. Still have major problems with my leg. I also had pulmonary embolisms which put me on a ventilator for 15 days. i almost died numerous times. Lung tests have shown that I have permanent damage to my lungs. I was on oxygen for almost 5 months 24/7, am off it now during the day but still need it at night. The doctors at the hospital have found me now to be DISABLED!! and the hospital themselves filed for disability on my behalf. If any one can help me or knows of a lawsuit starting up plz let me know. Luvdobers - I started this post over a year ago. As I said then, I had never had any female problems until just months after being put on sprintec. Since then I had lots of pain, but my main focus was to get pregnant first, then move foward with dealing with my female problems. Since my original post here, I had two miscarraiges and a bleed that showed up on an ultrasound. My husband and I decided to call it and allow the doctor to do exploritory. We did that last month finding endometriosis on the outside of the uterus (not uncommon), also a couple of ovarian cyst one being a hemorrhagic cyst that was allowing blood to pool up in my body cavity.
In the end for me, they did not find serious issues such as blood clots or others as many of you have posted here. Many women have cyst, many women have endo.
I do still feel that this BC at the very least made these issues pop up sooner for me or maybe I would have never had endo or cysts at all. Either way, I felt I needed to go with the ablation of my uterus to control the endo and hopefully pain in the future. I always wanted children, thought I had more time, but I was wrong and I hold Tri-sprintec partially responsible for that.
I am still not aware of any law suit against the makers
