I had chronic gout for many years before going on Toprol to control my high blood pressure. Within days of starting Toprol, my gout cleared up and did not return UNTIL my doctor replaced my Toprol with a "similar" medicine. Within 3 days of stopping Toprol, my gout returned. I had to ask my doctor to return me to Toprol, which she did, and my gout has never returned since. I am now gout-free for about 4 years. I swear by it, even when my doctor finds it unbelievable.
