HELP! WEANING OFF SPIRO...
Posted over a year ago
I am really thinking of trying to wean myself off this drug. I have been on it for a year and half for hormonal acne. I am currently on 100 mg, but want to try to go to down to 50 mg, and then 25 mg. I feel constantly bloated. Does anyone have any experience with doing this? And if you went to the lower dosage it helped with weight loss? Thanks!
Asungur - I'm sorry if this feedback comes to you too late but I also had the same issue with spiro and was also taking 100mg a day. Previously when I tried to get off spiro I took 100mg one week, 75 the next week, 50 etc... and then all of a sudden I had puffy eyes, weight gain, hair loss etc... You are weaning off of spiro WAY TOO FAST. Seems your body is sensitive like mine so what you need to do is the following: Go get a prescription for spiro in 25mg pills instead of the one 100mg pill. Start off with your 100mg for one week, the next week drop your dosage by 12.5mg (so half of the 25mg pill) hence that week you'll be taking 87.5. The week after drop your dosage again by half of the pill so now you're at 75mg. It will take you roughly 5 to 6 weeks to completely be off of the spiro. I have been going this and I am now at 25mg and have not had any water weight gain. You need to give your kidneys time to transition into working by themselves. Before I started weaning off of the spiro, I took Estrosmart by Lorna Vanderhaughe (take this for atleast one month before you start to wean off) and when I started weaning off I also took her Glucosmart. This combo saved me...they really work. I also feel depression lifting off I feel caused from the spiro and I dont have any anxiety anymore, no heart palpitations. I feel more myself. After you get off spiro, go get your iron and b12 levels checked - it depletes your body of lots of vitamins which cause dark under eye circles, fatigue etc... use this system, it works.
