After the Cough

Had a unproductive cough several months ago. Given Zpac, steroids, Nasonex, a bronchodilator. Cured the cough, but than had 2 "asthma" attacks in the middle of the night - felt like throat closed. After some testing, I have been diagnosed w/asthma and allergies.Just started allergy shots. Stopped all previous meds and now am on Singular. Still have weird throat problems, gagging, feels swollen, some coughing that comes from way down in my body. Periodic leg cramps during night. Had non of this before the original cough and subsequent meds. Anyone relate?

Propsguy - i had everything you had plus sinus surgery- did a little something for a short time, symptoms came back- and advair, symbicort (only took one puff- got an immediate horrible sore throat that lasted the entire day and i never took THAT again), several nasal sprays. am finally free of all that. my advice in no particular order: 1) eat only fresh organic foods from a known source (a supermarket is not a known source). 2) if you drink milk, get raw milk from a local farmer 3) learn buteyko breathing techniques 4) take yoga classes 5) do not eat any processed foods- chemical additives are known to cause asthma symptoms 6) make sure you get some sunshine, without sunscreen. good vitamin D levels are very important 7) get lots of vitamin C, magnesium, omega 3. 8) basically eat an anti-inflammatory diet, whole foods 9) drink lots of filtered water, hopefully non-flouridated 10) find yourself a naturopath or integrative doctor 11) they can give you IV drips of vitamin C, magnesium and other nutrients that will clear your lungs in moments 12) a drop of lobellia tincture under the tongue will stop an acute attack. you can also add lobellia to a tea an drink some everyday. 13) make sure to eat lots of garlic and onions 14) an integrative doctor might also be able to give you peptide injections which will be way more effective than standard allergy shots 15) about a year after i got myself off advair, my sense of smell came back for the first time in maybe 10 years. and my sniffing, gulping, clearing throat, coughing and sneezing are gone. so is my kleenex dependency. i never dared go anywhere without a box. my father, also an asthmatic for about 40 years and on various drugs the whole time (whatever was new and patent protected) also quit advair the same time i did but without going through any of the above mentioned advice. he just stopped, period and he's fine. after about a year of being off all asthma meds, my now 86 yr old father discovered that his singing voice had come back and he just sang 7 weeks of solos at his church. if you want to here what an 86 year old man who doesn't take any medication, asthma or otherwise, after 40 years of being on asthma medication, please watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPCFioqZ1Rc&feature=email good luck. it's hard- at least it was for me, but you can do it

Propsguy - ps- i recently was on a two week vacation with a friend. she was coughing and sneezing the entire time and i was not. she said "how is it possible that i am sneezing when you aren't?" i was famous for my sneezing. no more

Sewfie - Props guy, thank you for your posts. I've had allergies all my life, sinus and the like but never asthma. I have recently developed stress induced asthma and was prescribed Singulair. I wondered about many of the side affects I have been experiencing. Your advice seems very sound. I know someone else who goes to an integrative doctor and she is having wonderful results. Thank you for your time posting this information. It has been very helpful.
