Singulair Good Luck, Fda, God Bless the Children, Bad Dreams, Bad Thoughts

I have a sweet 7 year old girl, a Leo. She has been on Singulair for 3 years. She has gained 15 pounds in one year. She is complaining about bad thoughts in her head. She is often angry and breaks into crying spells. She has bad dreams. I think I am done with the singulair. I will give her one puff of Flovent twice a day and stick to that. 100 years ago they did not have singulair on the market and kids with asthma lead perfectly normal lives. It took whoever 16 years to develop this medicine. I think they need to go back to the drawing board to perfect it. No on wants their kid to be the one who is the reason why they recalled this medicine. What does it take getting this off the market. Who's the Congressman to speak with? No one to make a change. Unless it happens to their kids, these doctors, congressman wont do anything. God Bless the children and their parents going through/getting past this.

Propsguy - 100 years ago, there weren't so many kids with asthma or allergies or bi-polar disorder or autism or you name it. something is wrong with our environment that is making this happen

Flindy - I can tell you as a mother that has gone through this,you are not alone,there are many many hundreds of us out there.I can also say in many cases recovery happens.Rest assured we are still shouting out for change. Trau3 - My 7 yr. old daughter was on this drug and experienced the same symptoms you described in your posting. She was on Singulair just over a month. I informed the dr. of the side effects and stopped giving it to her immediately. We then switched to Flovent twice a day as prescribed by her Lung Dr. She didn't seem to be herself yet. I think the cumulation of all the drugs created another personality in my daughter. She still suffered moments of extreme sadness, sad thoughts and agitation within minutes of each other..Therefore, I decided along with the blessing of the Pulm. dr. to stop Flovent too. Be carefull of Flovent...they say it is mild but doctors do not know from case to case..all children are affected differently by the same drug. Likewise, I think it dissolves from the body at different rates too. I am not a medical professional, only speak from my observation with my own daughter. After 3 weeks time, our daughter seemed to be closer to her old happy joyful self. We look forward to her improved health without the need for pharmacuticals. The benefits clearly did not outweigh the risks in my daughers case. MT

Caringmom888 - It has been 4 days without the singulair and already my 7 year old girl tells me she no longer has bad dreams and those bad thoughts in her head went away. To me her mood and behavior is significantly better. Thank God. I am still using the Flovent until we see the Pulmo. Dr. in August. She did get some headackes at night and one night the chills. I am attrubuting this to withdrawal, since it has been 3 years with the singulair. I pray for continued good health for her and every child and adult who deals with this. Thank you all for your helpful responses. Sometimes, you feel like you are the only person in the world going thru this but do not realize how many people feel the way you do.

Ackermaj - thank you very much for making these posts. my daughter is 7 also, and has been on singulair for at least 3 years. within the past several weeks she has had many of the same behaviors you and others describe on this site. she is normally a happy, independant, pleasant little girl. she has never complained of seeing things, nightmares, or voices in her head. but over the last few weeks, she has had frequent bouts of uncontrollable sadness and crying, she has hallucinations in her bedroom (sees "circles" flying around the room), pictures bad things happening like her grandparents being taken away to jail, feels extreme guilt over silly little things that happened in the past, and lately - and most disturbingly - she has said that there are voices in her head and that they threaten her. she described them telling her to hold a gun (for the life of me, i don't even know how she knows what a gun is, we watch very little tv, and for her age she actually watches very few of the shows kids watch. only stuff like pbs sprout and disney and barbie movies) and point it at herself. shocking and scary. we have discontinued her singulair as of 7 days ago, but her most recent episode with the bad thoughts was yesterday. i am wondering (if this is truly the cause) how long this will take to get out of her system. we did notice an improvement in the first couple days as far as the crying so regularly, but now we are just sacred and dont know what to do. we are setting up an appointment with a child psychiatrist.

Melboca - My daughter is 6 and had the SAME side effects with Singular. I took her off it too and we are only doing 2 puffs of Qvar now. Good luck to everyone.
