I am currently experiencing withdrawal symptoms from Singulair. I feel like I have a horrible cold, I am having hallucinations, and am experiencing heart palpitations. My doctor told me that there were no side effects which was why i took it in the first place - I have been in an angry aggressive state for a year and finally found out that it was because of the 'harmless' singulair. I am considering legal action.
Tarapennockgoldenstrong - You are not alone. I went though the same thing. Horrible, deadly symtoms, sucidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, anger, mood swings, unable to get out of bed, very tierd, stomach issues, hyper senstive to certain foods, ect, It is horrible!!! I am a million times better now. With bad allergy symtoms, but healthy, and that's what matters!! I am considering filing a law suit too. I hope we can all ban together and make powerful legal action. Any ideas how we can start this ball rolling for juctice?
Jadams98 - I just found out that the horrifying things that have been happening to my mind over the past month and a half have been due to a singulair withdrawal. After I stopped taking singulair for seasonal allergy I began to realize that my thinking was impaired, my head felt weird, and I felt no emotion. The psychiatrist told me these were symptoms of depression and anxiety. I thought there was something deadly wrong with my brain. Unfortunatly after a month of hell my doctor told me to start taking singulair again to see if that was the problem. two weeks latter I read this and stopped taking it at once. That was two days ago and I am going through the same type of withdrawal again. I hope I regain full function, but regardless of what happens Merck is going down. I am a 17 year old high school student from Washington, DC and I was the happiest kid on earth before all this. I had everything going for me and singulair nearly took it all away. However, I think God sent me through all this so I could put an end to Merck's criminality. I have grown up with and become very close friends with many of Washington's most powerful lawyers and politicians. I think I have the connections to start a serious lawsuit to bring Merck to justice with the help of many on this forum.
Cj1962 - I would like to see them suffer. My marriage is on the rocks now, thanks to Singulair. If I end up devorced, it's thier fault.
Lost_in_space - OMG I had no idea it went this deep! I thought i had researched this and only read things about it causing issues in children. I have been in a miserable, angry, agitated, suicidal, aggressive state of being for a year since starting this med! I was put on it because I have nerve damage due to guillain barre syndrome and my chest would tighten up whenever it pleased and I was having trouble breathing. Plus my allergies (another auto immune response) made things pretty awful since we moved to a new state. Yes I can breathe and it has helped with the shortness of breath (very happy about that because not being able to breath is scary), but all the other things I have gone thru and put my family thru. I have dealt with depression all my life, but it got so much worse and to the point that I didnt care about anything in life. I didnt see a point to it. Thought about suicide a lot and couldnt understand why. I will now have to deal with withdrawals, and hope I can make it thru. I would love to sue the bastards that came out with this gem! I almost killed myself because of this, left my kids without a mother!!
Immofttwirway - My 6 year old has been on singular for almost 4 yrs for asthma and allergies. He has had behavioral problems in school, constantly clears his throat, is aggressive towards his little brother, very emotional and tells me he is a loser! This drug has tormented him and us for a long time and I'm pissed! I feel responsible for not knowing what I was giving my child! We need to get this poison pulled from society!
T709 - I've been on Singulair for about two months. It does help my asthma but it's giving me terrible mood swings and depression. I also feel like my body is addicted to it. My mood swings are the worst when it gets near the time for my next dose. I'm going to cut my dose in half to avoid withdrawl and try weaning off of this stuff.
Gam91 - Our side effects starting easing up within days...much better after a week...almost normal in 3 weeks. Happiness has returned but lingering effects are still there. Now we get migraines..never had them before. Hoping that will subside too.

Dixiecna - omg my 5 yo son was on singulair for a few years hes had behavior problems like not minding I thought it was normal for his age hes been on zyrtec for a cpl months now & his behavior has gotten worse what do I need 2 do
T709 - If you are using the Children's liquid Zyrtec then there are lots of other nasty ingredients in it that may be causing the problems other than the medication itself. The other ingredients that could cause problems are propylene glycol, sodium benzoate, and sucralose. If it's the Children's chewable Zyrtec then Acesulfame potassium or blue no. 2 are potential culprits. Have you ever heard of the Feingold diet for kids? All of those ingredients are forbidden and shown to cause behavioral issues in some children. If your child really needs the medication, buy the plain white adults tablets, a pill splitter and pill crusher, then mix in juice.
Dixiecna - he is seeing an allergist & has reached maintainance on allergy injections do I need to discuss his behavior with his pediatrician & allergist since they prescribed the medications? thank you for your reply
T709 - I wouldn't bother unless you can find an integrative or holistic pediatrician. Most doctors will not even consider ingredients or even medication side effects. And they may advise you to put him on Ritalin or something similair on top of the allergy meds which will only lead to more problems. I have a child with ADHD, allergies and asthma so I've had to deal with a lot of this myself. Google Feingold diet. I would bet money that your child is sensitive to one or more of the other ingredients I listed before.
Bingoj - I had no idea what I was getting into with this drug! I am 42 and have had allergies and asthma for a long time. My allergies had been out of sight and I have no endurance when it comes to exercise. I was on Azmacort for years but they quit making it. My allergies have never been completely under control despite being on just about everything. I was put on Singulair as a last ditch effort. For 2 weeks, I thought I had found the holy grail or something because my allergies were under control and I could run without feeling like I wanted to die. Now into my third week, I think that I would rather sneeze, have all the sinus stuff back, not be able to breath, etc. First, I had terrible diarrhea for 3 days and that was dismissed as a virus but had no other symptoms. Then I was woke up by terrible upper abdominal pain that I would rate as an 8 out of 10. Then came the mild headaches. Next was the chest tightness. The symptoms would come and go and seem to be replaced with something else. Now, today, I feel like I have the flu. I ache, my joints are sore and I just have this overwhelming feeling that something is not right. I am doing goofy things that are out of character for me. I am done with this stuff as of tonight and did not take it. They make it seem like so few people have side effects but then I get on the Internet and see how many are suffering like I am. This is totally ridiculous. I am starting to feel angry and nauseous. Some holiday this is going to be feeling like this.

First of all,what kind of doc. do you have ?,did he explained the possible side affects?If so ,why did you take it?Just seams to me like sueing someone w/money
is the way to go,then go...see if it helps your awful symptoms??I took Singulair and i knew of all side affects both from my Awesome doc. as well as Merck.I wanted to try,and nothing helped me more for my awfull allergies and respiratory problems.Ohh yes ,i had side affects,water gives side affects of you drink wayyy to much,stop drinking water???Well,sorry to say i can no longer take Singulair ,I will move on,besides life in general has it's side affects too,all depends on how you decide to live it and how You as a real human being decides to undestand and accept that knowing you'll never be better from anything 'till you try and specially when you want the Big ones to destroy companies who are working for us.It all depends on the case you got.,but not just any fartin' thing,,,,sue someone??? and live the rest of your life w/money and extra heavy consious"""Best of luck to all!!!

Drugzrhelpful - I have been on Singulair for years and haven't had a single side affect. It's been a miracle pill for my asthma and I would like to keep it around. You know sugar can also cause all the symptoms you guys are having. Mood swings, depression, the whole bit. Sugar is killing people left and right in this country. It's an epidemic. Diabetes has been on the rise since the introduction of High Fructose Corn Syrup... even worse form of sugar. Sugar on steroids, if you will. Just wanted to throw this out there. I do hope you'll reconsider this lawsuit your discussing. It could hurt people like me. :(
Darladey778 - I agree, Drugzrhelpful. I've been on singular since I was 7. I'm now 26. I've had times off the drug due to not having insurance, and I've never had such severe symptoms. No withdrawals or any depression while on singular. If people are experiencing these symptoms, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR, or contact the manufacturer DIRECTLY. How will they know any adverse events are occurring with their drug, if people are only bitching in online forums? Some drugs work for certain individuals, while others don't. Find an antihisime that puts your allergies at bay. Some severe asthma sufferers need this medication to live a normal life. Every drug has side effects and risks involved, don't forget that. Singular has been my lifesaver. Without it, I would have spent my entire young life suffering from severe asthma attacks, and hospitalization.
Aphrodite'srevenge - Amen, Darladey! Well said. I have been taking singular for 4 years and couldn't be more satisfied with an allergy/asthma medication. I love this stuff! A lot of people want to point their fingers at someone else to explain their problems. Fact is there are other causes for depression such as diet, social surroundings, career, money issues, children, family, the list goes on.... You can't deduce it is from an allergy/asthma medication by being on it for a month, or even a year or two. Money hungry jerks ruin it for most of us who are perfectly remedied with a medication that suits our bodies. If singular does not work for you, please keep searching for something that does, for I want you to find solace and ease from allergies and/or asthma like I have. Best of luck to you that don't find a cure with singular.
