I don't know if my 1 1 /2 year old son's being diagnosed with low igG and low IgA have anything to do with singular. He just got off it 2 weeks ago, had been on it a year. He was tested for allergies everything was negative, but tested very high positive to gliadin IgG (95.5), and positive to gliadin IgA (14.8). Is this related???? HELP!!!!!! The GI Dr want to do an endoscopy on Friday May 2. Any help, I don't want my son under anesthesia unnecessarily..................
Njcukett - I've emailed a regular poster of this site that has done tons of research for us and asked him to help you out. I just can't remember where to tell you to look b/c there are so many. His post name is "concerned citizen." I 'm sure he'll be in touch.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was the singulair. It can cause havoc on our systems and especially our children.

Concernedcitizen - I truly believe that the doctors are doing what they believe is the right thing to do for your son. And, of course, nobody should ever take advice from the internet. So I am not going to give any advice.
I will say some of the things that we have talked about before on this site. Then, you may think of some questions that you will want to ask about the possible side effects of Singulair.
I guess that you are saying that your son did not test positive for any allergic reactions except to gliadin - in wheat and other cereal grains. That would be a food allergy. I, personally, have such a problem with gliadin that the minute I have finished chewing one bite that hits the back of my throat that my nose runs; my sinuses start to congest; I sneeze, cough etc. Then I will stay stuffed up for a while. Several hours later, I will get heartburn and gas.
If your son is 1 1/2, then he went on Singulair at 6 months. Did your son's allergy symptoms have anything to do with starting to eat baby cereals? Just a question, because there were no other positive tests?
Singulair blocks a leukotriene receptor that prevents mast cells from creating the type of chemical signals that cause asthma, an extreme inflammatory responses. I don't know if your son had asthma because you don't say.
We have been reading many peoples description of their personal experience with Singulair which includes many different kinds of side effects. Many reactions seem possible.
I have been posting information about researchers who have studied the leukotriene receptor that Singulair blocks. My personal theory is that because Singulair blocks one of the receptors on the mast cell that Singulair changes the way that the mast cell acts. There are several receptors on the mast cell including pattern recognition receptors that determine what chemicals the mast cell excretes, when it dies, and how it signals the bone marrow to send new mast cell to replace the dead one. The mast cell also tells other white blood cells what to do.
The concern would be the possibility (no proof available) that Singulair has caused a decrease in the number of mass cells and/or interfered with the signals that tell the lymphocytes what to do.
Low levels of IgG and IgA could be an issue related to B-lymphocytes. And, Singulair could have inhibited their function. OR, the problem could be unrelated to Singulair.
Is your son in any danger of something life threatening happening if you waited to see what happens? If you avoid feeding any gliadin foods, then wait until he has been off of Singular for at least six or eight weeks, would they agree to postpone the endoscopy to see if Singular messed up the B-lymphocytes? Why don't you just ask what would be the harm if we decide to wait another six weeks?
If his blood work starts to improve for the better, then you will get your answer.
