I Ran Out of Seroquel and I Coulnt Get Ahold of My Doctors Office for Refill
Posted over a year ago
I called my doctor's nurse three days ago to get my seroquel refilled they never returned my calls and now I will be off my seroquel for about five days. I want to know how this is going to effect me.
Crapictalsuprhtr - Without knowing, I'm assuming you are taking it to treat Bipolar mania.
Seroquel, from what i have read and was recently told by a Psychiatrist I had gone to for a second opinion about a med I take, is a safe drug (considering the horrible side effects that are very common and often not mentioned to us by Psychiatrists and G.P.s,that result from bipolar treatment with off-label meds).
If you do have full on mania you need to have that on hand though. My Shrink told me if I ever hit a Sunday and something happened that found me without my meds (alprazolam, which is used to treat the anxiety that is part of my bipolarII, and caused me to have a 4 minute seizure,Gran Maul, after only 36 hours without it! I had the seizure in the Dr office!), to go to one of those 7-day a week walk-in clinics, tell them the situation and my doctor's name and they can make a quick phone call and write you a script to get you through a few days.He said the same could be accomplished at the E.R. Because seroquel is not a narcotic with street value, you definitely should have no issues.
Call a pharmacist to get a definitive answer about the meds and your particular situation.
And, by the way, we as patients are seeing a real arrogant breed of Dr's beginning to dominate our horribly flawed health care system, when three days after your request, your medication needs have not been taken care of,,,and you have BiPolar ? I say that because this psychiatrist I see called me personally, this past Tuesday, at around 3pm to discuss a change that needed to be made w/ my meds. He, first of all , had me call the pharmacy to call his office. That's his damn nurse's job. I don't call them to call you! The pharmacy faxed the request immediately, but it was one hour before the office closed and I didn't need it that day, so ,ok. I went through my day wednesday and didn't go by the pharmacy because I had plenty of the meds , but I went by around 1pm Thursday and was floored that the office had not returned the fax request yet! The pharmacist was very kind and called the office and sent another fax. About an hour later, the nurse called them and the script was filled. So, not only am I firing this guy(that's why i went to see the other Dr. I mentioned earlier), but i'm going into his office(this is an upscale area of the city ) and I am going to personally tell him, as he comes to the waiting room, in front of whoever is waiting, that i refuse to tolerate a Dr. who has a commitment to my well being, yet cannot handle himself or those he employs effectively enough to see that one of their easiest, but most crucial tasks gets done in anything close to a timely manner.
These Doctors make ridiculous money because we trust them with our lives. Seven, Eight years of college and this jerk-off can't dial 7 digits on a telephone?? He needs patients that like to be worked over, not worked for. Sounds like you have the same type of thing.
Good Luck
