I feel that nifedipine has caused irreversible erectile dysfunction with me. I've inherited severe hypertension and in 2007 was prescribed 90mg of nifedipine. Before beginning this regimen my erections were strong enough for penetration in any sexual position. Currently my erections are not strong enough for penetration of any position. I'm so depressed that on May 21, 2011 I stopped using this drug. It's the middle of August 2011 and my erections haven't gotten any stronger. I was aware that this drug could possibly cause erectile dysfunction but not permanent erectile dysfunction. This drug is also associated with swelling of the ankles, feet and hands. I'm age 51 and should still be able to enjoy a decent sex life.
The only erectile dysfunction therapy that will work for me is a penile implant. I get my care at the VA Hospital and they are utilizing a psychological evaluation to ration out penile implants as a form of cost cutting. A Veteran who doesn’t pass the evaluation is not considered for an implant. These corrupt healthcare measures are especially aimed at low income Veterans. I will not participate in the evaluation because it’s a bunch of crap, especially considering that private urologist don’t make use of such an evaluation for penile implantation. I’m looking into filing a civil suit against the manufacturer of nifedipine.
