I was taking Niaspan ER 500MG for about a month when one night I felt an itching and a burning sensation beginning in my cheeks. I could feel it go to my neck and slowly work it's way down my body. It felt like someone was sticking a million pins in my body. A look in the mirror and I looked like I was sunburned. when I moved my facial muscles or extremities the skin had a stretching feeling like it was sunburned. I'm 60 years old and never felt anything like this so I called 911 and went to the hospital. With a mix of steroids and antihistamines an hour later I was back to normal.It happened twice since and as soon as I felt it coming on Benadryl quickly relieved the side effects. I stopped taking it and it has not happened since.
