I had my Mirena inplanted 8 weeks after the birth of my daughter (first child) in May of '10. The implantation of the IUD was so painless that I didn't think it was put in. I found out soon after that indeed it was. I bled almost every day non-stop for 4 months. My periods evened out and I was having one every 4 weeks like normal, but I was bleeding heavier and having such bad cramping pain from it. I didn't notice anything rather out of the ordinary because I had just quit my job and moved to a new state to be with my husband and we were living with another couple and it was so stressful. I started to suspect something was wrong because everything was getting on my nerves, but since I had a bad case of depression most of my life I just thought that having a child and living with this other couple while trying to adjust to my new life was getting to me.
Soon afterward my husband and I moved out of that stressful situation with the other couple into a wonderful place of our own but my depression worsened and I had headaches that would make me sick to my stomach. I kept forgetting things, my hair kept falling out, my heart would do this thing where it felt like it was pumping ten times harder than it needed to, constantly faught with my husband over stupid little things like leaving a pair of shoes in the middle of the bedroom floor, I lost interest in sex and when we did have sex I hurt afterward, my daughter (the most well-behaved baby I have ever seen) would fuss just a tiny bit and I would totally flip out. I was so depressed that I would just sit for hours doing absolutely nothing. My husband would joke with me and I would snap at him. Then I started getting symptoms of pregnancy. Tender breasts, nausea, back pain, constantly tired, frequent urination... I bought a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I looked online for answers and I saw all of the symptoms that other women were having. I called the doctor and demanded an emergency removal of the Mirena. An hour and a half later I was on the table getting it removed. It hurt so bad getting it out. I have been Mirena free for 3 days now and I still see no change. I am hoping it changes soon for my marriage's sake...
