I had been on the Mirena for 6wks and I will tell you, it was the worse 6wks ever. I decided to get it bcause my fiance and I are happy with our 2 little girls, for now. I breast feed exclusively and as soon as I gave birth to my baby girl I began to come off the weight immediatly. During that pregnacy I gained the standered 25-30lbs and I was ok with that. For the first checkup (6wks after giving birth) I got the Mirena inserted. I've always had insecurities about my weight so I specifically asked the doctor upon him inserting the IUD would it cause weight gain, and he specifically said, NO, IT SHOULDN'T. Literally a week of it being in there I gained 7lbs. I began to have awful headaches, terrible dizzy spells, and mood swings that were completly intolerable. Not to mention I had an appetite of 3 pregnant women. I honestly thought I was losing my friggin mind. My fiance is the best because he was so supportive of whatever decision I made. I decided to have it remove but you better believe not before a fight from the doc and his staff. They went from saying that it was all i my head to them checking my thyroid. When everything came back normal, they finally scheduled me to have it removed. I went in Tuseday and when they checked me in and weighed me, I gained a full 32lbs. So I weigh more now then I did when I went into labor almost 4mnths ago. Are you kidding me??!!!! I never gained that amount of weight in that short of a time period even when I was pregnant. I am so over that birth control. Now I will say that NOT EVERYONE has these same awful side affects but a lot of the women have very very similar stories. So if you know your body don't let anyone tell you differently if you feel something is wrong. Every woman's body is different so I will say if you want to try it go ahead just be mindful of the risks.
