Removal of Mirena
Posted over a year ago
I am very close to my date of getting my IUD removed... does anyone knows if there will be complications if I get it removed a week or so later from the date it was placed 5yrs ago?
Eklung05 - Probably not. The reason it only lasts five years has more to do with the hormone reservoir in the IUD itself. Once you hit the five-year mark, it's not releasing the hormone levels that it should be anymore, so you need a new one. Really, though, a week is not going to make any difference at all.
Mfazekas - should not be aproble, some say 5-7 years for it, so 5 years is probably just the general guideline drs use.

Have2telluthis - if you get another one in there prob will be a few weeks of turbulance as the new one is a new foreign body with higher dose inside of horrible hormones....if you have one removed and do NOT fit another then do not expect to go anywhere in 48 hours.
After 2 days of removal with no bleeding or pain and thinking it was a breeze well guess what, it begins! This is when your hormone levels will suddenly plummet and haemorhaging will begin. What starts as a trickle like a heavy period quickly turns to cramps, clots not little ones think of 40gm golfballs when standing or walking. Dizziness and headaches and migraine. Speaking from experience as I am having all this right now !
I have taken ibuprofen, tranexamic acid and keep drinking tea and water to replace fluids and try flushing the hormones away. I am going to see Dr tomorrow for hormones and to ask for gynae referral to plead for the ablation procedure.
Life is hell , Mirena is a poison and I hope these symptoms are temporary I really wish I hadnt asked for period help using one of them 'as first line in resolving period bleeding' the UK Drs refuse to perform hysterectomy on me as I am 40, normal non fibroid and non diseased uterus, I am not some sort of guinea pig for their horrible t shaped horror film device....
