My first two pregnancies went pretty much perfectly and both resulted in a healthy baby. I had the mirena put in at my 6 week check-up after my second baby. I kept it in for about 2 years and I had no adverse effects while I had in it. I cramped mildly the day they put it in but after that, I didn't even know it was there.
I got pregnant 4 months after having the mirena removed and miscarried at 5 weeks. I was told this was a common thing to happen and that most likely my next pregnancy would go just fine. I got pregnant again 6 months after that miscarriage. I was worried to death and my doctor was very understanding so he did an early ultrasound at 5 weeks, saw nothing but the yolk sac.....he had me come back in 1 week for a repeat ultrasound to make sure the baby was progressing normally. At 6 weeks the fetal pole was visible and there was a heartbeat (176 bpm). I was so happy and relieved. Had a little spotting at about 10 weeks and had another ultrasound. The baby had died at 7 weeks and I had no idea. I ended up having to have a d&c because my body never would miscarry on it's own (we gave it 2 more weeks and nothing happened not even any more spotting). I had the baby sent for genetic testing and it was a perfectly healthy little boy. So the doc did some blood work on me which all came back normal. So no reason for this perfectly healthy baby to have died. I just can't stand it!!!!!!!
I brought up my concerns to the nurse on the phone when she called me with the bloodwork results. My concerns being that the Mirena may have caused uterine scarring or something else to be wrong in there that would cause these poor little babies to die. The doctor doesn't seem to think that is possible. I am going to see another ob/gyn to get some more tests to find out when I get my new insurance in February.
I just want to know if I am alone in this or if this has happened to other women too. I just need some answers, but I know they may never come.
