I had my mirena removed on Friday after nearly 3 years. I found out that I had BV, which I am sure was to do with having this device. Everytime I went to the loo it smelt, I lost my sex drive and also have put on lots of weight and even when dieting I have not managed to loose it. I just wondered if anyone has suffered any of these side effects? I am now bleeding heavily which I was not warned about before removal.
Mellzyv - I had the mirena put in two years ago, I still have it in but am contemplating getting it removed as I have experienced some of the same side affects, loss of sex drive, and weight gain. Thought I would do some research to see if the mirena could be a cause of this.
Nurse2be - OMG! I have been thinking of having my Mirena removed as well due to 40#'s of weight gain and i too have been exercising and no loss. Sex, jeez, i think i forgot what that even is. hot and cold flashes, i know i'm far to young to go through menopause (i'm thirty). The smell your talking about, i have the same problem and i can't stand it. not to mention the leg cramps i have been having. sometimes i feel exhausted, do you? I'm so glad that i'm not the only one with these effects. I get really bad crampong as well but i hardly ever get a period and when i do it's so light that all i wear is 1-2 lightday pads throughout the whole day. I hate it. I have been on it for 3yrs.

I experienced really bad pains and cramps around a week or so before I was due a period, however only bled very lightly. I also experienced real hot flushes. You know the more I read about this the more angry I am becoming. As i was told when I had the mirena put in it was practically a dream the best thing invented, certainly not warned about all these side effects. We should all sue the makers of this dreadful contraceptive!
Lorin24 - hi girls!! I had my mirena put in in the beginning of october 2010. I had high hopes for this thing but it seemed it wasnt for me..I had constant UTI's, ovarian cyst,I bled the WHOLE 6 months on it...not just spotting either...bleeding. also had BV, no sex drive AT ALL!! and also gained some weight without really changing my eating/working out habbits, on the plus side my skin looked fantastic!! I went to have it removed but they couldnt find the string which was disheartening bc I was anxious to get this thing removed. I have not felt like myself the whole time with mirena. Today I got it removed and I literally feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Its only been an hour as I just got home from the appt, I am excited to get back to feeling like myself!!
Torrez2007 - I had my Mirena removed 6 months ago. When it was removed, I got my period right away and I kept bleeding up until now. The blood would be so thick it would completely clot up. Now, the blood is coming out less and it looks like it returned to normal consistency. I am irritated because I thought by month 6, I wouldn't be experiencing any more Mirena-caused pain. My body is getting back to normal but probably won't be completely back to normal for, I believe, not much longer.
