I originally posted a little over a month ago regarding all the issues that I have experienced in the (almost) 2 years with my Mirena IUD. I'm 1 month today post removal and I STILL am experiencing issues from my IUD.
Has any one else who had a Mirena IUD, have all their periods completely stop while it was in? How long did it take for your cycle to come back after having it removed?
I have been to the Dr. twice since removal because I STILL HAVE NOT started my period. I started Yasmin the day it was removed, but had to stop that after 9 days due to a allergic reaction. My Dr told me I should start within a week of stoping the Yasmin.......Well, not I Didn't. So I have just completed a 5 day cycle of Provera to "jump start" my period with in 10 days of stopping......We'll nope, not successful either. So now I'm VERY worried. My DR wants to put me on more hormone replacements such as Premarin and Provera for the next 2 weeks to get my body back on track. I told them NO! and I have a appt. on Tuesday! I have also been careful with my hubby and even had a Blood HCG, (preg) test to rule out preg. They are not being truthful with me here and I'm scared that I may be pre-menopause. The nurse told me yesterday that the symptoms I had experienced with the IUD in, were similar to those of Menopause. And that whole time my IUD was in & I was complaining they told me that all my side effects were rare, that most women don't have any, HUH! Just like they told me that there isn't enough hormone in the Mirena to have caused my 60 lbs of weight gain?????? But there sure was enough to Shut Down my Whole reproductive system even after it's been removed!!!!!!! Doesn't add up to me?!
Any feed back about this would be appreciated!
Red1964 - Not sure of your age but I am 43 and just had the Mirena removed in Feb after having had it for just 5 months....I am still waiting for my period and recently had my hormones tested because I started having hot flashes for the first time. My FSH was 107! So I went from having regular/normal periods pre-Mirena to being fully menopausal after less than 1/2 year! I go in to have my labs redone on June 3 so then I will find out if I am truly menopausal or if the Mirena's hormone was doing this to me. Of course, if my period still doesn't start, that tells me a lot! That and the hot flashes are so far the only symptoms I'm having.
Seems like your Dr is putting you through a lot of hormones to try to jump start things quickly....maybe your body needs a break! Personally, I have become very leery of artificial hormones....I think I just don't tolerate them well. If I am truly menopausal, I don't know if the Dr will advise me to take any HRT to protect my heart and bones, given that I'm a bit on the young side for this....we shall see.

Jalynnc - Thank You for your reply, I've been researching alot about this & I'm finding more and more women who are thrown into a premenopausal state from the mirena. I just turned 31, I had the Mirena inserted at age 29, & 3 months before I got married. I'm having my levels tested on Tuesday and I'm really scared. Hubby & I had planned on trying to conceive our last child (we have 3 boys already) around fall of this year and I'm not sure what my future looks like now. I wish more research would be done in the USA reguarding this issue, I've read that there is active research in another country about this issue right now with sad results. I hope that everything turns out for you & I. I will keep you posted as well to what goes on with me.
Tiffanystanfield - I have not had a period for three years because of the merena and now all the suddon am havving wierd side affects and bleeding I def want to have another kid i am only 19yrs old and this really scares me. I went to the hospital twice and as far as said they have no idea why its happening. I have had cramps, headaches, and blood showing up all the suddon does any one know why and what might be wrong! Can i remove it on my own???? What are the risks if I do????
Jalynnc - Ooooh, no don't remove your own, you could damage your cervix and possibly your uterus, plus there's a risk of infection. I'll tell you it hurt to have it put in, but was painless to have it removed. I don't know what your ins. status is, but I know it was only going to cost me between $50-175.00 to have it removed with no ins. coverage. These prices are depending where you go, Planned parenthood or a DR. I didn't have ins. at first so I called to get prices. I can tell you that all your experiences are side effects of the mirena, but you know your body best and if you don't feel right, and believe it's because of the IUD, have it removed.
Lduff - Thank God I am not alone. I had depression, anxiety, weight gain, pelvic pain, cramps, pain down my legs and on/off bleeding and spotting. I had it in for 9 months. My history is birth of 2nd child in 2/07 never stopped bleeding so was put on Yasmin in 5/07 and didn't work and made it worse much worse so by 6/07 it was like a faucet and diagnosed with Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding(DUB) so I had a DNC in 6/07 and still bleeding but not too heavy so Dr. recommended Mirena inserted in 8/07. Worse thing I ever did. So it was removed yesterday and pain is already gone. The pain in my pelvis/groin was instantly gone at the Drs office!!! My Dr. said it had to come out and that I should wait to see what happens. So he said I could spot...get a period....or hemorrhage. I came to work today and there is nothing. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying to stay positive. He states that I may have to have an ablation to burn the inside of the uterus to stop bleeding if the DUB comes back. That means no more children. Only 37. My husband and I wanted to have one more. So I am again being positive and do feel much better already. I would just like to say this.....bleeding after pregnancy is normal. I think I should never have asked or been given Yasmin birth control so soon. I should have waited for my body to naturally recover. Now I am in a pickle. But I certainly believe the Mirena is no friend to any woman and caused me to become very depressed. I have a wonderful husband, beautiful 8 yr old daughter a 15 month old son who rocks my world and I am depressed!?!
Just a note: before 2nd baby I had a normal period and was a healthy woman. Had been on Yasmin in my early twenties with no issues....it actually helped me lose some unwanted pounds.
Schow - Hi, I am 24 yrs old and have my Mirena removed yesterday. I'm just wondering if any one knows how long will it take me to get pregnant. Also all the weight i've gained in 3 months will go away? I have gained almost 20 pounds in 3 months and my diet has been the same. I hope someone has the some answers. Ddeanna - I'm 42 and I had my Mirena removed in January 08 after only having it for less than 4 months. I spotted the whole time and sex was painful but I never gained any weight or was depressed. I am just now getting my 3rd period since January and it came on it's own. My frist period was a little over a month from removal but my 2nd period did not come on it's own, I took 10 days of Provera in mid April and had a period on April 23rd. Needless to say I don't thinl older women who may want children in the future should use the Mirena as it seems to push us into early menopause. I start fertility testing in July to see if this is truly the case for me.
Abbeysmommy - I'm 26 years old and had my Mirena removed two days ago after having it for about 9 months. I had a little spotting, but had stopped. Started spotting this morning and looked like I was going to have a normal period (it's time for it anyways). I was lying down with my daughter to get her to nap and felt gushing. When I got up and went to check, the top of my pad is covered with what looks like an enormous clot. Called dr and they said it's probably trauma from having the Mirena removed, but if it continues to call them back. Anyone else experience this?
Healthyprior2mirena - I am 30 and had Mirena after inserted at 6-wk post-partum check. Had cramps, range of spotting to blod clots-- worse following sex, mood swings, and headaches. Miserable experience and these healthcare providers are highly pushing the use of this! They discard concerns and say that it couldn't be the iud, yet most of us have been healthy and regular women prior to Mirena's use. There is something wrong!! The FDA is understaffed, and under-financed for them to research everything that comes across their "desk" and release many harmful, and sometimes fatal drugs into the consumer market. Mirena should be removed form the market!! Notice Mirena co. states that it is not sure how the iud works. Why don't they?!? That is a little scary. My spouse and I want to be open to getting pregnant again, but that iud really messed with me in just five months (I couldn't imagine having it for 5 yrs!), that I don't know if we can get pregant AND what other health problems I may have to face because of it in the future! I felt very sick following removal with chills, hot flashes, fevers, sore breasts, severe abdominal cramping, feeling of fullness in uterus--like I had a period but it was clogged and nothing showed, swollen lymph nodes, acne, and overall feeling ill for one month now. Some sort of infection... I went to my GYN and she found nothing "significant" except some white blood cells but count was fine. She went ahead and gave me a Bactrim prescription and I am feeling better, but curious to see if will sustain after prescrip is done. There are hundreds if not thousands of women's complaints of this IUD online...if only I had listened to myself to not use an IUD and had researched it more prior... If you haven't gotten Mirena stay away from it like the plague!! If you have it consider getting it removed!
Lsteindler13 - I am now on day 11 post Mirena removal and I am bleeding VERY heavily with big clots. I have to change my pad AND tampon every 1-2 hours. My doctor says this is normal but to call if it continues. I don't know what to do. Is this normal?
Simmons19 - i think that all birth control is all the same it's just not the iud that's like that all of them have side efftects that u should have read before u got it insert also anything that u se weather birth control or getting your tubes tide u are going to experience all type of side effects due to god did not intend for us to stop our bodies from reproduction so all of these problems are normal because u caused your self to stop reproduction by using the birth control or getting your tubes tide besides the birth control gives u the warning of side effects thats up to u if u read it..markia
Shmerle - I had gotten the mirena iud and kept it in for a year and a half. I had bleeding with intercourse, mood swings, depression, cramping alot...and the strings migrated upwards into my uterus. The doctor pryed open my cervix..very painful...and for about 20 minutes tried fishing out the strings to remove it. He had no luck, and said he didn't want to put me through that anymore and scheduled a d&c to get it out. (which insurance didn't pay for much and the stupid mirena has cost me about 4 grand now due to surgury fees) That was 4 and a half months ago now. I read above with the lady who had swollen lymph nodes and a fullness in the uterus, but then no period would result. My lymph nodes are finally shrinking, but they were huge. I too have a "fullness" in my uterus from time to time, but then no period for 4 and a half months now. I'm still ovulating...just no period. I have taken ovulation tests and have a twinging over my ovary along with discharge when I ovulate. I have gotten a couple of positive pregnancy tests now...just to turn around a few days later with a negetive. I think that is what the "fullness" in my uterus is. The mirena and d&c have screwed me all up. I haven't had any provera or harmones to start my period, because I was trying to let it get back to normal on it's own. Has anyone else had to go through this? Please let me know...and btw, i'm 28 years old and wanting another baby!! :)
Desire - After not having my period with the Mirena for the 5 years that I had it in I haven't started ovulating. My husband and I finally decided that we were ready to start a family. I have tried ovulation test kits and temp charts I haven't been ovulating.I am having a monthly cycle but not really regular. I have tried eating well, exercise and taking women's fertility supplements from GNC. Still no luck. I am desprite. I am 37 and would give anything to have a baby. Does anyone have any sugestions? Anything. Would something like provera help? I just want to start ovulation. I really want to be a mommy!!!!!
Momto3beautifulgirls - Hmm all this is starting to scare me. I had mine removed yesterday and spotted for about a whole 15 minutes 2 hours post removal. Was searching around on the internet wondering when I would start. I had it out in 6 week post partum with my baby, she is now 4.So I had it in for 3 years and 10 months. Took it out cause it was starting within the last few months to give me ovarian cysts, not wanting to have another baby, just wanting to get regular now. Has anybody on here started their period normally and consistantly? Or did I just stir up a bunch of problems?
Jalynnc - I did finally have my first period.......in November 2008, after a D&C & Laproscopic diagnostic surgery. I ended up being diagnosed in Aug 08 with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and have been on meds for it and then diagnosed with Adenomyosis which is a medical condition characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue (the inner lining of the uterus) within the myometrium (the thick, muscular layer of the uterus). (Copied the def. for you)
My doc has NOT until this day admitted that these conditions were caused from or a result of the IUD. He did state that the D & C was needed to remove all "old stuff" from not having periods for over a year & a half. I will tell you that I now have periods every month, off by a few days here n there, but I'm not taking any BC and have not yet conceived since having it removed in April. I go back to my Dr next month. I have to see him pretty frequently now. I hope this helps you. Good luck.
Sm3 - Hello, I have not posted here before. I had the mirena put in 6 wks post partum. I got it because I have been having extremely heavy periods after having children. SO after my third I was told the Mirena could make it so I didnt have a period. Well, I havent really stopped bleeding since. I bled for 13 weeks straight after having my third child and the Mirena put in. I still get very heavy monthly cycles. I started my last one on Feb 1st and it lasted for 9 days. I am now bleeding again and it started on Feb 22. At first it was very light, but now I am back to very heavy. I have looked all over the internet and cant find anything related. Has anyone else experienced this and what did the drs tell you??
Scily - I had my Mirena at 8 weeks post partum, my husband could feel it during intercourse and I got alot of pain and cramping. I was also tired, depressed, no libido and gained weight. I felt better within a week of having the Mirena removed (right about the time my son turned 1). It has been six weeks and no period. BUT I was not regular before Mirena so who knows. The only pregnancy symptom I had before was swelled boobs, and I have the same thing now. One negative test so far. It really stinks not knowing, and my doc says this has nothing to do with Mirena. My doc also had the Mirena and so far she says she loves it.
Mommy2be - I had my Mirena for 3 and 1/2 years and just had it removed today. I was on the pill for birth control and had to get off the hormones because I have factor IV liden (it is a blood clotting disorder). I didn't think that I had any problems with my IUD, until reading this message board. I have no children and the insertion was awful! I was in grad school at the time and I started to get really anxious, depressed, had awful mood swings, gained weight and started to lose my hair. I started to take an anti-anxiety medication, so I thought that the symptoms were from the medication, but now I am thinking that maybe it might have been a combination. I have always had irregular periods, and since having the Mirena inserted I have not had a period since then (3 1/2 years, but never really missed it). Now my husband and I want to start to have a family and I was trying to find on-line when my periods would start again. Has anyone else had difficulty with re-starting their periods? and also problems with hair loss,my hair was fine and thin before, but now I have small patches that look like no hair is growing at all? I have read some other sites, but I think they are from the uk and they talk about mirena as "a coil"? Is this the same?
Ss27 - All of the mention of pre-menopause scares me. I had Mirena inserted 6 weeks post-partum and continued to bleed daily for 6 months until I finally requested my doctor remove it. Had light spotting that day, March 17, 2009, and have had nothing since. At first I was grateful, after bleeding for so long, but starting to worry. I do get the cramping and bloating (and moodiness) like I'm going to have a raging period, then nothing. Very frustrating. I am 36 and would still like to have the option of pregnancy. I know 2 people that had it and had no complications in or out, and read about it on the Mirena site before requesting it. I guess I should have read here first. I hope this works out for all of you. I am not quite 3 months since having it out, and I'm still nursing (two months before done with that) so I'll wait until after nursing is over, maybe a month, before calling my doctor about it. Good luck to everyone, I have two beautiful daughters, so not having a third wouldn't kill me, would just be disappointing.
Samanthabelit1 - Wow I really wish I would of found info like this before I got the Mirena. I got mine put in 8 weeks post partum. I had it for close to 3 years. I gained 60lbs and had no period. I also had numerous of other side effects that all buy my last PCP insured were not the mirena. She told me that she thought it was the mirena and also ran test. She said I need to get it removed. I waited for my test to come back and they showed my thyroid was low. The doc prescribed meds and I decided forget this I am tired of all of this synthetic hormone being put in my body it is time to take charge. So i went to a homeopathic doc how did some crazy test and put me on some supplements to boost my thyroid. I also went to have my Mirena removed and had a paraguard put in its place. The paraguard does not have any hormone. The day I had my mirena removed I began my monthly and it has been five days and I have not stopped yet. I am hoping it will subside soon. Anyways for you women that are having issues maybe try a homeopathic doctor. It has only been two weeks but my skin has cleared up I feel so much more energy. I was falling asleep at 7 p.m. every night. My hair seems to be falling out less. And the crazy thing is I have done a little research on the internet and found some research trying to prove certain birth control causes thyroid issues which thyroid issues can also cause fertility issues. I wish everyone at this site the best of luck and please keep your fingers crossed for me that by going a different route I can reclaim my body. I have 60lbs to loose and my mind to retrieve.
Kitkat0308 - I had my mirena removed after having it for a year and 3 months. I had some wied side effects. Every 2 months I felt like I was pregnant. I had no periods while on it, but the month before I had it removed I had what I assummed was a short period. Also, I began producing milk after not breastfeeding for 6 months. I have a 19 month old daughter. So Immediately I was put on a low hormone pill and began bleeding lightly 3 days after removal. That only lasted about 3 days. Then two weeks later, I began spotting again. This has gone on and off for almost 5 days. After reading the posts, I wish I hadn't gotten on the mirena. I even tried to have it removed last December, but the practioner didn't want to remove it depsite the side effects. She was like, its preventing pregnancy, so we should leave it in. I've been sick with the flu and now bronchitis, but I've been throwing up for almost a week straight but since I'm still spotting and am on the birth control, I don' t think I could be pregnant. I do want another baby, so I hope when we are ready, we don't have complications. My husband and I want to wait til Dec 2010 to give our 1st child adequate time as the baby.
By the way I'm only 24 yrs old.
Stephanie_w - This is crazy to read this. I had mine put in in Mar 2009 and removed in May 2009 because I had so many symptoms. I bled almost every day, had cramping, mood swings, gained 10 lbs, acne, just about everything it said you 'could have' but according to my doctor 'most women' don't.
Since removing the Mirena it took almost 2 months to have my first period. Then I had horrible heavy periods each month along with cramping. They seemed to be changing just a little each month. I also seemed to have bad mood swings.
Now I thought I was going to start but I have had 3 days of barely spotting. I have no idea if I am going to get a period this month or if it will be heavy again like some of the other months. I was even worried I might be pregnant.
I am still fighting with the 10lbs and it seems my body just wants to keep it. I know I need to get extra strict in order to lose this because my body seems to want to just keep it.
I am 36 and it worries me to read about pre-menopausal. I had no idea this was going to cause so many problems. I had the copper IUD for 10 years with no problems.
Dalay728 - This site is very intersting. I had my Mirena put in in Aug. 2005 and had it removed about 10 days ago. I have been spotting lightly and cramping but no period yet. I was happy that I had no period for almost 5 years, but now I want to get my period so badly. I was in the hopsital about 14 days ago for a kidney stone, they did a ct scan and told me to have my iud removed. When I got discharged I went to my ob/gyn, who had already received a copy of my scan which showed I was ovulating (they could tell by my follicles) . Anyhow it was uncomfortable to have it removed, but I am glad to have it out.
I had many side effects with this IUD, and now that it's out I realize it was the IUD. I had abdominal problems, unexplained nauseas, headaches and was always told there was nothing wrong with me. I've had my thyroid checked, you name it I've had it. Now that it's out, slowly but surely I am starting to feel better. I had alot of depression at times and anxiety. You might want to think twice about getting this IUD.
I am going to get a blood test next week to check my hormones, as ordered by my Ob/Gyn and they are going to recheck my thyroid. I will post an update.
I have 2 children and I am not looking to have a third, as a matter of fact I've been thinking about tubal ligation soon, but I want to make sure everything is ok and my period gets regular again. I have to admit it is very scary to think this IUD may have thrown me in menopause at my age 37. Hopefully that is not the case, I will update as soon as I know anything else. I hope this helps anyone of you.

Mummy2 - i wish id found this sight before! i had my mirena removed 4 months ago, i had a 20 min light spotting after removal and bad cramps. I was irregular whilst it was in, but ive had no period since the 20 min spotting the day it came out! ive had 2 negative pregnancy tests. What can i do to make my periods regular again? I was given microgynon pill from my dr, but i dont want to take it untill my body has ahd a break and the hormones from the mirena are out of my body. My husband and i have been very careful, and i was always regular before i had the mirena. I had it in for 9 months and i am 24.
Dunique09 - i had the mirena in for 5 years and then got another reinserted straight away... i had that one in for another 12 months.. so 6 years in total with NO period... i had it removed 6/2 this year due to an emergency operation in which i had to have a CT scan and had to have it removed for the CT scan. It has now been 5 weeks since removal and still dont have my period, my breasts are sore and im scared i may be pregnant, my partner and i have been very careful but i just need to know if it can take this long to get my period back.....
Mountainmama - I had my Mirena for 2 years and just had it removed 2 days ago. I had a little spotting the day of removal and the day after. This morning I woke up to what seems like a full blown regular period-- wow. I was very lucky and happy with my Mirena. I never had periods, maybe a "spot day" once a month or so. No headaches, weight gain, cramping, depression, anxiety. And I didn't worry about an unplanned pregnancy so that probably helped keep away the anxiety, etc. I had it removed because I want to get pregnant, so I'm hoping my body is starting to get back on cycle. I have decided after I have another child, I am definitely getting another Mirena because I had such great success with it. I'm sorry a lot of you had problems! But I can say I had all the mood problems and weight gain on BC pills and I will NEVER use them again.
I'd like to know who has had their Mirena removed and how long it took for them to get pregnant after removal. I'm so impatient!!
Tamika_jones - Mirenas is horrible. I got it 6 weeks post partum and my son is now almost 11 months and I've had this thing out of me for 3 days(and for the person who said you can't remove it yourself yes you can if the conditions are right. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap, sit on the toilet, feel for the strings and gently pull. It's plastic and pliable and should come out easy. If you have any pain from removing or it's too hard stop immediately.)On this thing I've gained weight(too scared to find out just how much) horrible anxiety and panic attacks, heart palpitations, dizziness,nausea, strange spotting my partner felt the strings. I contacted the mirena people directly yesterday to tell them what a horrible product it is and that I feel it robbed me of the last 8 months of my life. They passed it on to Bayer. We'll see if I hear from them. Synthetic hormones are not good for anyone.
Tdiver - I had the mirena removed over 1 year ago and have had heavy periods, clotting, spotting, bad cramps, low sex drive, feeling down, etc. Sometimes I had my period for 21 days and then stop for 1 week and then it would start again. I had gone to my doctor a couple times asking if it was normal and they said yes that it might take a good 6 months plus to have a normal period. I finally went for an ultrasound a couple weeks ago after having 2 months of normal periods and found out that I'm diagnosed with adenomyosis. I feel that the Mirena could have caused this as I had no problems before. Does anyone have a similar story? At least the good thing is my period finally seems to be normalizing, but I'm not sure if I should have a DNC or ablation done anyway. and the thought of having a hysterectomy scares me.
Hatingtww - I had my mirena removed after two years of no periods with occasional spotting. Removed on Jan 6. Had light period the next day. Period comes monthly on a regular basis, but only for two days. I bleed for two days and spot for five. We are ttc and are ovulating according to opk. I was on bcp for about 13 years prior to mirena. I was happy to lose period at first...now I wish it would come. How much longer before things regulate?
Sweets3801 - I am 28 years old. I got my mirena February 2008! I have had nothing but horrible symptoms, anxiety, headaches, cramps, pain in my legs a dark line on my upper lip!!!! BUT MOST RECENTLY I FOUND OUT I HAVE A TUMOR ON MY PITUITARY GLAND! I immediately had it removed! TO follow EXTREME bleeding and still pain! I am hoping MIRENA IS not the cause of this TUMOR! Anyone else with similar symptoms!
Sweets3801 - also DR. said there is no way MIRENA could cause this! And maybe not but i am NOT taking anymore chances!!
Mom_to_a_cutie - I had the Mirena put in on Nov '05. I had it removed on June 29th. I had a lot of the issues mentioned here. I am curious as to when I will start my period back. My dr put me on the Nuvaring but I took it out a couple days after she put it in. My hubby and I are wanting another baby so that's why I removed it. I thought the Mirena was the best thing in the world up until last year when my health went crazy.
Laurenalicia86 - I was 19 when I had my Mirena put in in Feb 2006. It's been great until about a year ago. Horrible pain every day. just found out that one side of the 'T' is poking into the wall of my uterus. Ow!! It's coming out, and hopefully VERY soon!! :(
Laurenalicia86 - It's also somehow migrated sideways a little. The strings are inside my uterus somewhere, and the doc can't find them. It's going to suck when I finally get to a gyn and they try to get it out. No more Mirena for me!!
Cristy - i had my mirena for 4 years and had it taken out 2 and 1/2 months ago..i had a period a couple days afterwards for 4 days then i skipped a month and 1/2 then this month i started the 11th went for about a week then stopped for about 3 days then started again as of today ive been on my period for 19 days minus the 3 days i was off of it, i called my ob/gyn dr and the nurse told me it was from having the iud taken out plus i skipped the next month..its soo aggravating im having lower back pains,very moody and just feel tired..i really want to have another baby soon but i just feel like somethings wrong..ive taken ovulation tests and theyve came up negative except the 1st month after i had the iud taken out there was a few days i was ovulating,im going crazy if anyone has any solutions please let me know
Hg8708 - I had the mirena in for 11 months and finally got in removed yesterday. I went to a new Dr to get it removed and she was surprised I even had it. She said she doesnt like to put it in people my age (22) because it can cause so many problems with fertility. I told her what I was going through( swelling, cramping, mood changes, pain with sex and some bleeding after, headahces) and she said we needed to take it out that day. I already started feeling better that day and today I feel completely different. I dont feel so bloated anymore or tired and run down. Im hoping some of the 20lbs I gained while on Mirena will start to come off soon too. I had some spotting yesterday after it was removed but not any today. Im so happy I got this removed!
Carolann76 - I had my Mirena removed on Thursday, September 2nd 2010. Today is day 3 without that monster. I have yet to start bleeding. My swelling in my stomach has gone down considerably. I can hardly believe how much flatter it is. UNREAL!
OH and my libido is super duper high!!! Holy hanna! I feel like a teenager again.
I am still a bit dizzy and emotional...but I am certain this is from my hormones slowly going back to normal. I KNOW taking the Mirena out was the best decision for my body, mind and spirit. I will keep everyone posted in the days to come. So far I am THRILLED with just the way my body looks and feels.

Carolann76 - Ps. I had my Mirena for 5 years with no period. I am day 3 without it in and still have not started bleeding. I took an Ovulation Test last night to see where my levels are and I am not ovulating at all. I haven't a clue when or if I will start bleeding. I am 34 years of age.
Tddybare - I had a prescription for a mirena and decided to go online and read all about it and was horrified by what I read... from how horrible insertion was to gaining 91 pounds on 3o days... and all the other horrible stuff. I decided to keep my oppointment and talk to my doctor. She specializes in womens health the whole clinic only deals with the women's reproductive parts so i knew i was talking to the right people and would recommend a clinic like this one to anyone. A large portion of there mirena patients are premen women who have extremly heavy flows, Anyway she reassured me and explained everything to me and I decided to go ahead with the procedure. I have been suffering in silence for 11 years about how heavy my flow has been( extremly grossly heavy) it made decisions for me, about where i am going or not going, I would plan to go to the gym and would have to cancel because i couldnt make it through an hour of cardio without running to the bathroom with a leak.
Anyways when she did the insertion i was expecting this horrible pain and all i felt was some mild cramping ( I made a comment to the doctor about this and she did tell me i did very well)
After the procedure i had some mild cramping no worse than a normal monthly cramp for me and some very mild spotting for a period, well I am in heaven. I haven't had any other bad side effect ( i kept checking my face and back for acne and pulling my hair hoping it wouldnt fall out.)and this is one mirena user who will have one in till menapause. This is way better than oral bc.which made me extremley moody and miserable,
Blueyedbratt67 - I have had mirena in since June of 08 and plan on having it removed this Friday (October 10). I was going thru my divorce at the time of insertion, and then got laid off from work, so my whole mental/emotional/physical self was way out of wack anyways, so when I started experiencing odd things, I just attributed it to my life in general. I am 43 and have a steady boyfriend for over 2 years, and we definitely do not want kids, so I thought this was perfect. I am getting worried reading all of the problems everyone is having after the removal. My symptoms (reasons for having it removed) are hair loss, acne of the face, neck, back, shoulders, depression/anxiety, bleeding gums, vision blurriness, trouble sleeping and tired all the time. I am not really worried if I end up going into menopause because of this, but do want to find a reliable form of birth control. I love not having my periods, and only light spotting on occasion so I just wear a liner every day. I have also had breast lumps since insertion, and were told they were just cysts after having had a mammo & ultra sound. I will keep you guys posted after my removal to let you know what is happening to me.
Ammyanne - Yasmin causes severe bleeding, and it happened to myself AND my daughter, and they are or already did recall it. I have Mirena now and it is messing me up, so I am going to have it removed and just use condoms I guess. The least unhealthy, at least.
Lesley60 - I had very heavy periods i would have to wear a pad and change it every 20 minutes, I had mirena put in and had spotting for a few months and no bleeding since, but have had weightgain. so Im going to have it removed, if I didnt put on weight I would never have it taken out its great
