Am I Crazy or Is This NORMAL? 24 Years Old and Confused! Help Please

My boyfriend has brought up a lot of these points below that I have been experienceing and never thought that they could be linked to the side effects of the Mirena. He notices a big difference since I had this put in.

I am really debating if i should have it taken out because it was extremely painful to get it put in. I had it put in 12/2010 and I am 24 years old.

I was on nuvaRing before the Mirena and dont feel that i was this bad.
I would GREATLY appreciate anyone's feedback.

-More gas than usual
-Moody to the max. HIGH/LOWs every day. Seems to be one of them to the extreme
-anxious
-not affectionate at all
-little to no interest in sex
-unmotivated for anything
-sleepy... would rather sleep than do anything else. And usually I am the opposite. Really enjoy being social and spending time with my friends, and now I could care less it seems.
-had light periods once I had the mirena. Dec- Feb had regular period, 3-5 days long and had dark tar looking discharge on and off. I had extremely heavy flows before with extreme cramping (leg would get tingly numb, etc). No period after Feb. some light to brown/pinkish discharge here and there in place of my period. still had cramping but wasn’t as bad. Now I have no period. It just stopped. I would be completely ok with this if i felt normal still.
-my nipples are extremely sore. Even when they are brushed against like in the shower. Feels like I have close pins on them constantly. This has come and gone. Was really apparent when I first got the mirena, and lasted for about a month and is now back.
-painful sex, only on the right side of my lower body area- really low, not sure what to reference it as but its an internal pain.
-have had constant achy back pain since it was inserted under my lower back ribs

Would someone please respond and help me out. Not sure if i should get it out or not. Im confused if these are side effects or if my mind is playing games on me. Help!

Leannepound - Your not crazy!!! I was dealing with some of your symptoms, always tired, unmotivated, anxiety, bloating (gas), not wanting to be touched therefore have sex. I also had dizziness, depression, weight gain, the list goes on and on. I had mine removed 3 weeks ago and I have never felt better, almost all my symptoms have gone away and I feel great! I have already lost 11 lbs and I actually want to have sex!!! I would recommend removing your iud so you can get your life back! The mirena was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. Shlee - I have alot of the same symptoms, I also hadnt puttwo and two together. I just decided to look into it and see what other ppl have been going thru. I had a baby a year ago I got mine put in 6 months ago and still have no want for sex....abdominal pains, bloating, gas, tired, i could swear i was pregnant all over agian. So no your not crazy!!

Pinkytinky - I put mine in 1/31/11. Since then I have my "regular" periods but light to moderate flow lasting 5-6 days. In between I have spotting which is still present till today. My last "period" ended two weeks ago but today, I bled more than the usual spotting (my pantyliner was full of bright red blood (???). My spotting is also light brownish/pinkish. Last week for the first time in my life I developed a yeast infection - don't know if it has to do with the Mirena. I have a lot more discharge than what I typically had before (ewww!). These are my only complaints. I'm hoping this intermittent bleeding/spotting will end soon...

Allir - what birth control did you go to after you got off of the mirena? heard anything about the copper IUD? also was it painful to have this thing removed? because it was NOT fun having it put in. thanks for your response. I am glad im not the only one experiencing this-

Lasagnamazola - i was 48 when i had my mirena inserted. insertion was painful, but i chalked that up to the inexperience of the gynocologist, who was very young. the good part was that my periods stopped altogether. i don't miss them at all! but my sex drive has disappeared, and intercourse is very painful. so painful that it's impossible. i've been told that this is common w/ menopausal women, and i am that age. however, i'm hoping that when i get the iud removed this month, that the periods don't come back but my sex drive does. and i don't know what to do about the sex pain.

Auzarek3 - Rose- Im 28 jus got my mirena in feb and i also am sleepy all the tyme and my breast are so sore it ddnt hurt to have it put it but my doc talked me thru it it felt like a bad cramp and then i wus done my periods well i havnt had a normal one yet but have been spottin more on than off for about 2 months sex drive is good but due to spotting cant even do that my weight so far is the same but i also been goin to the gym before this i was on the depo shot and it wus bad i was having my period for a whole month heavy flow sometimes i ddnt think it would ever end as for mood swings i have them too but i had them while on depo n my doc told me that wus why i have them ima give it a couple more months since its still rather new n take it from there...

Novdec1213 - Im 25 yrs old. and after a few yrs of my bf asking to be on BC we both researched the merina. ( not time for a baby just yet)....when i did my research, i read what others have put about the merina and their experience. some things that were posted made me a bit scared to set an appointment and others i read answered some of my questions before i got to the doctors. i got it in feb 2011. and i had my period off and on for a month. now end of march into April i havent gotten my period. the night before the doc will prescribe cytoetec (sp) which softens ur cervix. the side effects to the cytoetec i was told is worse than the procedure. i guess i got lucky cause i was already having bad cramps. i didnt feel what the cytoetec was doing in my body. the actual insertion felt like a bad cramp and it was a 2 min procedure. i do have mood swings but i think its my body adjusting to the hormone level being distributed in my body. my breasts just recently got achy and my nipples are itchy and swollen. according to the merina site its a normal side affect. and should go away. my sex drive hasnt taken a toll. and my weight hasnt really changed. my doctor told me to stay active and eat right and ill be okay. everyone reacts different to it. so when i have a question i call my doc or i do my research.

Rvc1252 - I had the copper IUD for 2 years before I had the Mirena put in. I had much heavier periods (prior to the Copper IUD I was on a 28 day cycle, with 3.5 days of light bleeding, after the copper IUD i went to a 21 day cycle with 7 days of pretty heavy bleeding) I also had no sex drive, and was tired all the time. I also experienced much more PMS than prior. I started getting leg pains as well, which was a side effect of the copper IUD. I am trying out the Mirena to see if it helps with all of that, my sister got it and has had no problems. Im only a week in, but i have annoying, but not bad, cramps, hoping those go away. I did have a rather bad insertion process tho. hope that might help !- rvc1252

Scarson74 - If you are looking for permanent birth control, I had the Essure procedure done and it was easy. I did have to go to the hospital and have sedatives, but it does not require being cut open. It is a procedure that is much like having a pap smear. If you aren't looking for permanent birth control, I personally don't know what would be a good one to go to. I have had mine in for 5 years too long!
