Has anyone experienced this??
Nursesausha - Yes. I had mirena inserted 24 days ago. I have spotted since that date. The bleeding went from brown colored to red last week. This morning after sex I noticed blood on the bed, a large blood stain (probably enough to fill a large maxi pad) I immediately called the doc, she told me to come in tomorrow to check things out but stated I was probably okay as long as the bleeding did not continue to flow heavily. I have not had any pain, fever, or chills. It was really scary though...I am a nurse and it still had me shaking.
Angie77 - Yes I have had this too, not everytime but regularly enough to be frustrating and my Mirena has been in for over years now and it still happens but my Dr say nothing to worry about.
Abbie502 - I did experience this...had tests done for infection and had an ultrasound as well. Nothing showed. My doctor said it was due to the fragile lining or the uterus since Mirena makes it thin and more sensitive. I'm not really sure if I believe her or not, but last night was pretty bad for me, and i made an appointment to have mine out finally. I would rather know when i am going to bleed and not have it every time i have intercourse.
Bcmlucia - I have had the mirena for a little over a year now and never had that problem...until recently! Lately, after sex I have been spotting...until today. Today I got something of a normal period (which no lie is freaking me out).
TO ANY OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBEM...Did it ever stop?
Keshad79 - I would like to know..i have had it inserted exactly 30 days from today. I have had sex and started bleeding after...dark / bright red...what ever it wants to do. It's embarrassing at work and i have to always put on a thin pad. I'm confused...it this really NORMAL...why didn't they tell me to expect some clotting and bleeding continueously in light amounts so i have a heads up?
Mommyof2beautifulboys - I have had mirena for 2 years. The first 2 months I bled continously, after that nothing until recently. I have begun spotting each time after intercourse and it is freaking me out. I think I will have the mirena removed. I also would rather know when I am going to bleed and when not.
Senioreeta - I have had Mirena inserted 10 months ago, and bled for a month then some spotting at period time. recently i have been bleeding after intercourse and i got freeked out, but i have no pain or fever.
Anonymoususer83 - I too have bleeding during or after intercourse. It is very frustrating and really makes the mood not so good while trying to enjoy my partner. I have had Mirena for 15 months. The bleeding started at 9 months. I have no other problems. About a month ago I went in to see the doc because I bled for 2 weeks straight. They checked to see if the IUC dislodged but it was fine. I'm thinking maybe I should remove it. Then again, I don't want to get pregnant.
Amberrae93 - I have had mirena for a little over 2 years now and i never had periods while on it....after multiple sex partners i just started bleeding like a period not spotting . bright red and I am freakin out
Yomamaglomama - I had Mirena inserted about 8 weeks after I gave birth to my son. He is now 9 months old and I have started to become more skeptical of this IUD. Although the whole concept of not having to worry about the pill is phenomenal, I am experiencing side effects that are causing concern. In the last 3 weeks, everytime I have sex I begin to bleed.It has started to hurt as well. I woke up the other morning with a large blood stain on the back of my nightgown (something that has not happened since before I got pregnant!) I have also become incredibly forgetful. I have heard this is a part of pregnancy and after, but It has gotten increasingly worse. I made an appt to get it out next week and will get back on the pill. I will by a babycrying ringtone to make sure I take my pill! Ha. Any recomendations on birth controls?
Denoonie - I have had mirena for two years. I have all of these symptoms so I feel everyones pain. However I choose to stay with the mirena due to lack of committment to the pill :/. We experience cramping because your uterus is contracting after orgasm which is normal but when something is inside if it it is painful. Any way to the point. The shot is low maintenance, every 3 months an injjection gien by your doctor. After a couple months period will lighten or vanish. No cramping or bleeding because it is not inserted into cervix. Also the Nuva ring is pretty great. You insert it into vagina every couple weeks and it excretes bc hormones ( progesterone( you may experience infrequent irregular periods. But they don't come very often and when used correctly they are as effective as the mirena! So hopefully I could help :) good luck remaining unpregnant! Haha
Wendyloo - IVE BEEN ON THE MIRENA FOR A YEAR NOW,,, NON STOP PROBLEMS WITH THIS SHIT....I THOUGHT YAY, I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL, BUT MAN IVE GAINED SO MUCH WEIGHT ON MY LOWER ABS, MY HAIR FALLS OUT CONSTANTLY, AND MY HUSBAND COMPLAINS AND COMPLAINS ABOUT THE BLEEDING, IT WOULD B OKAY IF IT WAS A LIL BIT BUT, ITS ALOT..... BRIGHT RED AND EVERYWHERE, WE'LL BE IN THE MOMENT REAL GOOD THEN WE SWITCH POSITIONS AND BLAM...RED GUSH OF BLOOD ALL OVER HIM AND ME SO MUCH THAT WE LOSE THE MOMENT GET SUPER FRUSTRATED AND WONT CONTINUE. Lyndz1023 - i have had mirena in for about six months and i bleed for a few weeks and my periods stopped completely.. no problems and now i bleed everytime i have sex with my boyfriend its not heavy..but enough and i continue to spot..sometimes its just a brown tint and sometimes its red..and i know u all agree from what ive read that its annoying it ruins the moment and starts to cause problems. it just makes me not want to do anything. id rather take a pill everyday then bleed every time i have sex and the doctor told me it should stop but from what im seeing its not going to so i thik im going to have to have it taken out. to good to be true
Badgergrad96 - Hi Everyone, I wanted to respond as a follow up to my original posting. The bleeding after intercourse only lasted about 6 months or so and I've not had another problem. I discussed it with my doctor and did a bit of research and it appears to be part of the effects of the levonorgestrel, which is the hormone used in Mirena. While it thins out the uterine lining (thus no periods), it can increase the blood vessels of the cervical lining. Therefore, you can have bleeding after intercourse.
Thankfully, my issued stopped after about 6 months or so and I haven't had any reoccurrance. After being on the pill for 15+ years, I absolutely love this form of birth control.
Wendyloo - HI, IM FOLLOWING UP TO MY POSTING, IVE REMOVED MY IUD AND BACK ON THE PILL. AND IM HAPPY!. I DONT BLEED AT ALL AFTER INTERCORSE. IT FEELS WAY BETTER. MY HUSBAND CANT KEEP HIS HANDS OFF ME. I LOVE IT...LIFE WITHOUT THE IUD IT WAY BETTER THAN WITH IT!!!
Janiturner - i have been bleeding after sex and i am a bit worried me and my partner and both got the mirena fitted and we just get put off wen we bleed after and i dnt no wot to do
Joyceb2 - i have been having the same problem. totally in the moment with my bf and once i get off theres blood all over him. its such a turn off. it used to be just a little amount of blood and the last time it was a lot i was frightened and mortified. i am going to give it a couple more months i think and see what happens. the reason i am on the mirena is bc i can not take birth control due to high blood pressure. hope all of this negative shit goes away bc i like being on the mirena
6348162 - ive had it for 9 months and the bleeding after sex has been going on for about a month. Not too bad though, whith a little cramping. I have a doctor appt tom. Hopefully a couple more months, and ill be good.
Melanderso - okay, this is the same person who last wrote on here. went to the doctor, and found out that my left ovary is enlarged, and i have cysts. It might be a side effect of the mirena, or it might be Pollycystic Ovarian Syndrom. They can't tell me right now, but i have another ultrasound in 2 month.
Dnf232 - I got the Mirena after having my baby in November, it is now October and I am having many of the same symptoms everyone on here is expressing. I bleed after intercourse just about every time, and it is very aggravating. I love sex, and I love not having to worry about taking a pill to prevent pregnancy. My husband doesn't mind it, it's more or less me that does. I mean, we have sex either every day or every other day, and I bleed every time. I am thinking I would much rather bleed once a month rather every time I have sex. I am going to call my doctor to get it removed. I have heard good things about YAZ so I think I am going to give that a shot.
Laralynne109 - Great to know it's not just me having this problem. I had the Mireana insterted in October 2010 because the cost of the neuvaring on my insurance kept going up ($40 a month!). The insertion wasn't too bad. Painful, but not the worst pain i've ever experienced. My period's have pretty much stopped, but every time I have sex I bleed. I'm not talking a little blood, I'm talking like it's worse than a period. I'll spot for few days then it's like all out (several tampons) for about 5 days then spotting for another 3. I've had enough! My boyfriend also complains about it poking him during sex (and he didn't even know that I had it at first so I know it's not just in his head). I'm having it out and just gonna get back on the pill. I haven't been on the pill in quite sometime, since I've done the patch then the neuvaring, but I figure if I can remember to take my accutane every day I can remember the pill too! Hopefully I can put the past 6 months of hell behind me and move on!

Ladyblaze - I Have had the mirena since may ov last year... I dont kno if its a gud thing or a bad thing. im onli twenty and i have three little ones. I took a pregnancy test last nite and it cam back positive. I thought maybe because i startd bleeding after me and my boo had sex that the mirena had dislodged. But i can styll feel the strings.....but they are way way way [way] back there. I have an appointment on tuesdai. i am really nervous.
Lissa1792 - I have had my mirena for six months now and just now its starting to hurt when my (boyfriend of two years) and I have intercourse we just moved so i don't have medical to go in its still placed right, but i don't know why its hurting so badly, its like I have something ripping inside of me. Please if anyone could please give me any advise it would be great.

Ladykj - I am on my second Mirana. I noticed that even after mastubation it bleeds(even with a toy that does't penetrate). It's something about contracting that uterus that must be causing all those problems but it needs to contract. It starts off brown and thick, turns red then takes forever to go away. When I was in a sexual relationship with my last live-in boyfriends, I had to have sex at least every 2 to 3 days of I was gonna have a full on period. I really don't want to be pregnant again but if I ever get there I will be getting my tubes tied. I hate this thing, but I have control over getting pregnant for a fling of my future husband.

Pc2012 - I had Mirena inserted 9 months ago. Since then I have been spotting almost everyday. Painful intercourse and heavy bleeding after having sex. I have been feeling back pain and abdominal pain, cramps and of course I feel like not having sex at all. I am definitely going to get this removed...
