I have had my mirena for about 9 months now. I thought it was great at first. I moved away from my family to be with my fiance and ever since then I have had such bad anxiety, depression, mood swings like crazy, very low sex drive and bad acne like I never had before. My skin was always very clear. I always have had depression and anxiety but never this bad. I just feel like I hate the world! I thought that it was just that I was homesick and taking it out on my fiance until I had stumbled across this sight. The only thing is that I am not having pains anywhere or excessive weight gain although I am bloated and I look like I am 5 months pregnant. Now what I would like to know is if this is really all caused by the mirena or if it is all in my head? I have a 17 year old and an 11 year old and now I am living with his 3 kids and the last thing I want is to have this removed and find out that it was not the mirena that was giving me all these symptoms. Can someone please help me with some answered questions? Thank you so much!!

Nicegrl41680 - I have been experiencing the same things. Also, I have a discharge. Do you? I am trying to figure out why I am gaining so much weight. Have you been to the doctor?

Bibelot207 - I had nearly an identical experience, and I was not aware of all of the side effects that I experienced until I had it removed. I had moved to a third world country to join my partner, and thought that my depression must just be culture shock. The bloating? Must be the food. The acne? Must be the new climate. Dry, bloodshot eyes? The heat and sun. The hair loss? Maybe stress. The loss of my sex drive? Maybe my partner and I have lost our connection, maybe the bickering about my bad mood is driving a wedge between us... Over two years, a return to the States and a failed relationship later, I just assumed that all of this stuff was part of getting older, and it wasn't until I had the IUD removed and my stomach flattened out, my skin improved, my sex drive returned (halleluiah!), my mood and eyes improved and my hair is growing back in that I can say with certainty that the Mirena did a number on me. My experience was that the side effects come on so slowly, it's hard to attribute them to the Mirena, but I experienced a lot of relief after having it removed. Good luck!

Cs12 - I would guess that you are having the same reaction to the Mirena IUD that so many of us have had. I had the same symptoms you have. Feel free too look up my ID for my previous posts. I've had mine out for a few months now and finally feel 100% normal again, however I felt immediate relief (as many others did) within hours of it being removed. Good luck!

Kentralmakes3 - I have the same exact feelings as you. I have moved to be with my fiance and I thought maybe I was just homesick. I have been to a psychologist and he told me that I was bipolar because of my mood swings and that is where I drew the line. I knew that I had to start researching heavily into the IUD because I had gone to doctors and they told me my symptoms weren't related to the Mirena. In the back of my mind, I always kinda knew. Especially when I ran across this website. My relationship is rocky because my fiance can't understand and can't deal with the mood swings anymore. I can't deal with the uncontrollable crying, the fog, the not being motivated and all of the other symptoms. My symptoms started out slowly and just get worse and worse every month. I hope you have found relief and that you have found the answers to your questions. Please let me know if you have.

Rrose4 - It's the Mirena!!! I was so anxious all the time and thought it was because of outside things. I've had the Mirena out for only two days and I feel so much better. I also shed a ton of hair while I had it (had it for a year and a half), so I am hoping that grows back. My symptoms also included aggression (I'm a lawyer, don't need more of that) and acne. Not cute, and definitely not very feminine. Good luck!
