Lyrica Menstrual Irregularity, Pregnancy Test, Sleep, Taking Medicine, Lyrica
Posted over a year ago
Having menstrual irregularity. And this month it just stopped all together. Took 2 pregnancy test to make sure and both are negative. So today i have stopped taking the lyrica altogether and we'll see what happens. Has anyone else had these problems? I also can not sleep at all... But I feel like i am wired and wide awake.
Kelly0177 - I have been taking Lyrica for about 1 month and my period is almost 1 week late. I am going to take a pregnancy test and hopefully it will be negative. I have 2 children already and with this fibro pain I don't know what I would do without taking medicine for the pain.
Sbaird7 - I have been taking Lyrica for a little over a month now. I too have noticed that my menstrual cycle has stopped completely, and I am gaining weight, in which I have only gained weight in my entire life, when I was pregnant with my children. (My family tells me all the time I have good genes because I can eat a horse and not gain a pound-Ha). Either way...It's noticeable, ugly, but when I try and miss a day of taking my pills, I get tremendous headaches. While on it, I also get this terrible crash point in between dosages. I'm a teacher, so this crash is undesirable, but I've tried everything, but it comes at the wrong time everyday. UGH! to this pill. (Not to mention, I really don't feel like it's helping my symtoms any---I was prescribed this with a diagnosis of Lupus, but it has yet to prevent a flare up or anything. I actually feel more swollen and bloated than before). If it weren't for the severe headaches, I would quit taking it all together.
Hipsu - I took Lyrica almost for a full year. In the beginning with no side effects but then after 2 months started getting continuous period! Leaking just a little for weeks! I was taking another drug at the sime time (which I had started few months earlier, Sepram) and after discussing the situation with my doctor, decided to quit Sepram. I originally wanted to quit both as this side effect was so unbelievable. When takin only Lyrica (150 mg + 150 mg /day) my menstrual cycle (which is somewhat irregular) was between 26-40 days, much more irregular than normally. Now I have stopped taking Lyrica a month ago and am still waiting for my next period to start (going on 39 days). Very frustrating as also would not mind being preagnant! I called the distributor (here in Finland) and they said they have no information about side effects on menstrual cycle. I do believe this drug affects my cycle and I am quite concerned that drugs are not tested (or the test results are not published) on female hormones, menstrual cycles, fertility etc. Being 30+ woman with no children I do not want to risk my fertility at all! Doctors say the cycle will normalize after you stop taking the drug but are they certain no permanent damage has been done? I have now decided to try to cope with the pain and not take any drugs at all.
Earlier I took Celebra which also had an effect on my cycle and found a study saying that this drug can have dramatic effects on female fertility (tested on mice). I find it very disturbing these studies are being kept hidden from the patients and the effects are understated.
I would engourage you all to report all effects any drug has on menstrual cycle. Call up the drug distributor, drug administration etc. and tell your doctor to make a report -they should report side effects but I have noticed some doctors don't do it.
Missygirl - Please read about the side effects of this medication....they are bad. Everyone must decide for themselves if the "good" of this medication outweighs the "bad" side effects. I have been on it for over 4 years and have put on about 50 pounds, was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. My teeth are literally falling out....I wish I had never heard of this medication.
Sunshine1960 - I just stopped taking Lyrica then started my period. Then it accursed to me that the Lyrica could have been the cause. I have had irregular periods for a while.I am 51, well its time for menopause anyway.I did also gain 25 lb's. I was afraid of the diabetes side effect, but it worked great for my nerve pain. I am now just starting Gabapentin, hoping to lose the weight. I took Lyrica for about 6-7 months and didn't have a period the whole time.
