I began 5mg of Lisinopril the 3rd week of September. That was a very low dose, however, I developed a chronic dry cough that I blamed on allergies. It was keeping me (and my husband) up during the night, and I was having multiple coughing episodes at work. After 7 weeks of this, we finally realized it was from the medication! I had my Dr. switch me to something else. I am now taking 12.5mg of HCTZ. The Lisinopril did nothing to lower my blood pressure, produced the horrible cough, which has taken 3 weeks off of the drug to finally stop, and extreme depression! While on Lisinopril, I experienced a great deal of fatigue, anxiety, and sadness. I had a very difficult time at work trying not to cry, and I would come home, and cry several times during the evening. I couldn't concentrate on anything, and had no motivation to interact with anyone. Since I have gone off of Lisinopril, those feelings of depression have finally lifted, and I am a much happier person. I realize that the percentage of people that have reported the coughing and/or depression is supposedly very small, but for those who do experience it, it is horrible. For me, it was overwhelming. I am very happy that I am no longer on the drug!
