I've been on Lisinopril for almost 2 years. I've had a dry cough for some time. It's been getting worse lately. This past fall I started having problems with what I thought were allergies: dry throat, nasal congestion and post-nasal drip, clearing my throat all the time. My doctor told me it was allergies and to start taking Claritin. That helped with my sinus headaches, but then back in January I got a sore throat that became nasal congestion, then cough, then chest congestion and bronchitis. I did the round of antibiotics. About a month ago, the symptoms started again. I didn't want to do it, but I ran to the doctor for more antibiotics. It seemed to stop the progression. Last week the symptoms started again. I tried to wait it out, hoping it would improve. I didn't want to run to the doc ever time I got sick, but last night it started moving into my chest. January was a nightmare I didn't want to repeat so I went to urgent care this morning. The first thing the doctor said after looking at my meds list was that it was probably the Lisinopril. She said she, too, suffered from allergies and that if I really had allergies, the Claritin should have done more to prevent these problems since I'm a relatively healthy non-smoker. I knew that Lisinopril caused dry cough, but until she told me that, I didn't know it could irritate the throat so badly that it could cause these other symptoms. Then I saw the postings on this site. What an eye-opener! Thank you so much! I've also been experiencing the fatigue and throat-tightness that someone mentioned on the list, as well. I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor this week to talk about getting off the Lisinopril.
