I have just called my dr. for an appt. I was not researching Lisinopril I was looking for info to email someone - happened to spot the first post...I nearly fell over! I now know I am not losing my mind, because that's how I've been feeling - the cough, the weary feeling, palps, my anxiety increase, etc. etc. Low readings that I'm wondering if I'm still alive, and this head detached from my body,, feeling, sort of walking like a well in control drunk, if that makes sense to anyone, a feeling like "iI'm gonna have a stroke" feeling in my head...it feels "tights". I started this med. last year, and feel this has been a gradual on-coming train! I have anxiety, and try to keep it under control myself, since I took prosac for about a week, talk about looney - look up another charming side affect - akethesia - nasty. For one poster who said we're all overweight nuts, I am 103lbs, I do a mile every evening, and eat very healthy, thank you.
Karen1954 - I started taking Lisinopril-Hctz10/12.5 at the beginning of December 2006.At the end of January 2007, my asthma AND allergies really flared up, and I have been coughing, coughing, coughing, and as a result, my asthma symptoms have become very exacerbated. My nights are awful. My Dr. keeps saying that my coughing is a result of "sinus" drainage, I am having to nuse my "emergency inhalers" everyday, I have been off and on steroids, now on Singulair, Advair--nothing is helping! Does anyone on this drug have asthma or has it made their asthma worse? My Doctor does not seem to know what to do to help me. I feel awful. I also have extreme fatigue, despite tons of sleep. Then , tonight I decided to go to this web site--I thought about this drug and how it took about 6-7 weeks of being on it, then my breathing, coughing crap started. I bet my Dr. lets me have it when I call, a week after tweo shots--steroid and antibiotic, to tell her I am no better and what does she think about this BP making me feel so bad.?Does anyone relate to any of this?
Kschell - Hi- I wish I would have run across your post a few weeks ago when you first posted it. It looks like it's been two weeks, so I hope you are feeling better. I had the same problem with Lisinopril. I have "emergency inhalers" that I usually only use for excercise if my lungs start feeling tight. However, after a few weeks into taking Lisinopril, my asthma REALLY flared up and I ended up having to use the inhaler a few times a day. I thought maybe it was just allergies since it is spring time. But, come to find out my problems were from the Lisinopril. My doctor said that this medication can effect people's lungs and in fact happens in about 5-10% of people who take it. I've been off the Lisinopril for about a week and am still feeling tightness in my lungs and a small cough, but not nearly as bad as when I was on the drug. My doctor said it will take a few weeks before I feel completely better. Good luck to you and try to get your doctor to switch your meds. You will feel a lot better!
Bunk - Sinus drainage after about 3 weeks on Lisinopril. Antihistamines don't help. Blood pressure perfect and feel good otherwise but can't sleep. Will have to stop taking it.
Majorhart1 - I have always had asthma but well controlled with my inhaler, exercise and an occasional singular and aerobid or nebulizer.
Lately the last couple of weeks or so - my lungs have been feeling tight and all the medicines only help and the effects don't last. I'm using my nebulizer alot more these day and my steroids also.
The medications I have always taken are furosemide (which dries up my lungs but has not been a problem managing with the nebulizer and diltiazem channel blocker for the rest of the high blood pressure problem. I walk at 1.7 miles an hour on the treadmill for 1 to 2 miles most days nad breathe okay if I use the inhaler before.
I recently started taking 1/4 aspirin a day to keep my blood thin on doctors orders and 1 40 mg lisinopril.
I don't think it's the aspirin as I've take a lot more than that for aches and pains and headaches which I have very rarely.
Reading here - I pretty sure it could be the lisinopril as that is new and one other thing is new - I've been taking 10 mg norvasc along with my cardizem (diltiazem)
I've read that norvasc doesn't cause an allergic reaction but could it if used with another channel blocker or is this likely the lisinopril. I used to take it too but not with these other new things - maybe a reactin between it and the norvasc or it and the aspirin?
None of this is life threatening as for awhile plain water in the nebulizer will open me up to breathe reasonably well. But the tightness remains.
How long after those of you that think lisinopril is the problem - after you stopped it - how long did it take for the asthma or extra asthma to go away?

Lanative - I just saw a new doctor following 4 to 5 bouts/year with bronchial and upper respiratory infections. I was advised that Lisinopril can cause this problem. So why then didn't my own physician, after treating me 7, 8, 9 times over 4 years for bronchitis, know of this??? I am so disgusted with doctors I could throw up on their shoes. You have no idea what this has cost me is lost work, income, stress.....anyone else have this problem??
2youngforthis - I just started taking40mg a day of Lisinopril a week ago and I started getting the tight feeling in my lungs 3 days ago. I have a history of having asthma and I was thinking maybe allergy season is here but now I know for sure that it was the Lisinopril that has triggered it because I haven't had asthma since 2004! I want off of this shit but unfortunately high blood pressure is on both sides of the family. I'm not sure if losing 50 lbs is enough to get off high blood pressure meds for good but I'm willing to try!
Dolphindame - All on Lisinopril with pain in chest - please get a lung xray. I'm looking up Lisinopril for a client who has had the coughing since starting Lisinopril - then chest tightness - then pain that only lessened when she held her chest tightly. Now a lung xray showed something not there a year ago - an MRI shows nodules in upper & lower lung and a biopsy reveals 2 cancer growths - one .4 cm & one .5 cm plus a lot of none cancerous nodules which resemble infection - although now I think she better seek a second opinion as it took the oncologist 3 days of reveiwing results to "decide" it's large cell cancer - what if it was so difficult for him to "decide" (his word) because it's not cancer but infection/nodules caused by the lisinopril??
Stormiskye - I just read your post. I am looking thru all of the posts for people with abnormal lung chest xrays and ct scans. I started Lisinopril in March of 2011 the very next day I was in the ER with severe ab pains. They did thorough lung tests because a blood test came back positive for possible lung clots. My lungs were completely clear. By the end of June of 2011 I now have a nodule in each lung and a grayish area they are saying right now is inflamation. I asked my doctors how my xrays could go from completely clear to this bad in a couple of months-of course they can give me no answers as to what caused it or what it means for me. I am a 42 year old healthy woman except for some genetic high bp. I have suffered so much this past year not only from the drug side effects but from findings in tests that have me overly stressed. That day in the ER they sent me home with a diagnosis of a maligmant mass on my small intestines. I was told to go straight to oncology. I asked to see a surgeon first. During further CT scans the mass seemed to be going away. I strongly feel it was a bad reaction to the start of linsinopril the day before. I think it caused my intestines to swell, but I am not a doctor. I do beleive it caused this lung damage and I am worried about what the damage means to my future. I am interested in how things are going for you and if you would like to email me I have lawyer info on someone who is looking into the lisinopril lung damage connection.stormiskye@comcast.net I was on this horrible medication from March 2011 to January 2012. I am still dealing with the effects. I am hoping the lung damage is not permanent. I have to have repeat lung CTs now every year. Doctors will not admit to anything they have done or put you on has caused anything!!!
Camberwell - Hello - did not experience anything like you have experienced. I came off that stuff ages ago! Do hope things get sorted out for you - how awful.
Marian937@comcast.net - i agreed---------a feeling like "iI'm gonna have a stroke" feeling in my head and of course vesicare doesnt work to stop the little mishaps----------i used to use tissues but then i bought 24 cloth hankerchiefs because i am always coughing, sneezing, wheezing, blowing my nose and so on constantly--------this is not me normally---ida
