Great to hear of recovery from Lipitor. Unfortunately I have just been informed today that my problems from Lipitor 80mg are permanent. I have severe Fibromyalgia with lots of chronic pain, , nerve pain, sore muscles, concentration problems etc. My docs are trying to get me to take Lyrica 50mg O.D. I am very nervous about starting it as I know thousands have had side effects with this too. I am now trying to get my head around coping with chronic pain forever! I had a bad time when I tried Amitriptyline for Fibro, weight gain, constipation, v bad mood swings etc and the withdrawls coming off it were awful too so I would imagine I will have same trouble with Lyrica if I do decide to try it. I wish I had a time machine. Here's hoping life will improve someday.......
Oldcarpetcleaner - I had all the same as you plus heaps more. Wreaked in pain from head to toe, loss of eye sight, hearing, taste, smell and manhood, I ended up in the mental health crisis unit. The good news 4 years since throwing all my "safe good for you" medicines I now feel a whole lot better. I am still a fraction of my former self but I no longer take pain killers and no longer want to suicide. I have no doubt that some of the damages to us are pernament but life does get better for us - so hold on in. I did discover high dose Vitamin C and B3 gave some noticable relief and mood elevation. I would never accept a doctor's word at face value again.
Chadd - Considering all the terrible damage that statin drugs have inflicted on unsuspecting patients, I think it is criminal for Big Pharma and their medical puppets to keep pushing these dangerous drugs on the public. But it is a huge money-making scam, as Pharma sold $29 billion of the drugs last year, and doctors are rewarded with a steady stream of new customers and more income.
Contrary to all their anti-cholesterol marketing propaganda, cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease. Dr. Linus Pauling discovered almost 20 years ago that the real cause of cardiovascular disease is the lack of sufficient vitamin C necessary for the body to heal and repair damaged arteries. Cholesterol is actually essential for the health of every cell in the body. But statin drugs restrict the body's normal production of cholesterol, and this can cause the degeneration of cell membranes of muscles, joints, and nerves, including the brain. Making matters worse, statin drugs also block the production of the essential nutrient CoQ10. For a better understanding of all of this, I would urge you to read two very informative articles. The best way to limit the damage is, of course, to stop taking the statins. Some other aids that I have read about that can help recovery from the damage is supplemenls of CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid, and omega-3 fish oil. Dr. Stephen Sinatra has an article in which he also recommends supplements of the amino acid l-carnitine. To get to the website of that article, just do a google search for spacedoc. I would also advise to use the internet and try to learn everything you can about statin drug damage, including other message boards or forums on the web.

It is gratifying to know that I and a few other posters have been able to help some injured patients by getting out the truth about statin drugs and cholesterol. I only wish I could get the truth out to millions of other trusting and unsuspecting patients.
Statin drugs are insidiously dangerous and they are totally unnecessary. But most people have no idea of how dangerous they really are and how they systematically break down the cells of your body. Cholesterol is absolutely essential for the health of every cell in the body. But statin drugs restrict the body's normal production of cholesterol, and if the body is unable to produce an adequate supply of cholesterol, it causes the degeneration of cell membranes of your muscles, joints, and nerves, including the brain. The brain itself contains about 25% of the total cholesterol in the body, and that's why the FDA recently required a new label warning that statins can cause cognitive impairment, disorientation, and even loss of memory.
Unfortunately, after 20+ years of anti-cholesterol propaganda and nightly TV commercials, Big Pharma has practically brainwashed the public to believe the LIE that cholesterol is the villain that causes heart disease. So they are still making $billions selling statin drugs, and apparently this money-making scam will continue irregardless of how much damage they cause. After all, profits are more important than people.

While it's true that cholesterol is an essential part of cell membranes, statins do not eliminate or "restrict" ALL the cholesterol produced in your body; they merely REDUCE the amount of cholesterol your body produces. Even with a maximum dose of a statin, your body still produces plenty of cholesterol. In fact, the standard for people on statins is to reach a cholesterol goal, which is the same level as healthy individuals who are not on statins. Thus, someone on a statin who is at goal and a healthy individual not on a statin will have the same cholesterol level. Most people on statins do not walk around with sub-normal levels of cholesterol.
It's also important to distinguish between different types of cholesterol, i.e. LDL and HDL. This is where higher levels of cholesterol is actually good for you: HDL is important for cardiovascular health and low levels of HDL is a risk factor. In contrast, high levels of LDL is associated with cardiovascular disease.
Regarding Linus Pauling and Vitamin C, he believed that Vitamin C is practically a cure-all and the data on Vitamin C curing anything other than scurvy is kinda weak. The real cause of cardiovascular disease is NOT due to lack of sufficient Vitamin C, as you stated. This is folly. Cardiovascular disease is extremely complex and not simply due to Vitamin C deficiency.
Oldcarpetcleaner - To Chadd, Statins can and do certainly reduce cholesterol to dangerously low levels causing devastating and fatal outcomes to some victims. The cholesterol number goal has continually being lowered as the sales and profits increase. In a study in the USA of approx 130,000 hospitalised heart attack patients it was found approx 25% had "normal" cholesterol counts, a whopping 75% had LOW cholesterol counts and only 25% had supposed high cholesterol. This data clearly establishs that the higher your cholesterol count the less chance of a cornary event. Statin victims who cease statin therapy will always have elevated LDL as the LDL is what helps repair all the muscle and bone dystophy caused by the statin damage. Statins cause muscular dystrophy our heart is a muscle why take that risk. Plaque build up in our arteries is caused by damaged and uneven surface for the blood/plaque to accumulate on. Damaged and uneven artery walls are caused for many reasons, the greatest reason offered to us from practising cardioligsts around the globe is inflamation. Vitamin C therapy is probably natures greatest and most abundant natural anti-inflamatory and anti-biotic. The "trusted" medical profession should be offering all known treatments for health quality, not just patented, high profit pharamceauticals. One should note that Pfzier the makers of Lipitor are convicted criminals in the US Justice system, they forfieted about $2 billion dollars to the courts for fraudlulent activities. This is the very outfit that all people on the planet rely on - who would now trust them. We should also remember that when a child is born the first food from the nursing mothers breast is colostrum, then followed by mothers milk which is absolutely essential bor babies development and is chocker block full of fat, protein and cholesterol. I love my wife. I love veggies, fruit, free farmed meat, full cream milk, eggs. I love heaps of sunlight. I love my cholesterol!
Chadd - @ linus: I never said that statins block the production of ALL cholesterol as you implied. Even a statin defender should know that would kill any statin user quickly. What I said was that it restricts, or limits, the amount that the body produces. In addition to reducing the amount of cholesterol, statins also reduce the amount of CoQ10 produced. Both of these substances are essential for the body to function properly, and if the levels are lowered too much, it will damage the cells of the body and cause a myriad of terrible side effects. You seem to deny or disregard the fact that statins cause this. So what else caused all the damage to the thousands of trusting statin users who have posted here? The repeated medical assertion that the 'benefit' of statins outway the risk is another lie also. As Oldcarpetcleaner pointed out above, only 25% of the heart attack patients in that medical study had 'high' cholesterol, and almost 75% had normal or low levels. In addition, 21% of the patients were already taking a statin drug! Cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, and the idea that one must reach some arbitrarily low cholesterol 'goal' number is bogus and nothing but a huge revenue generator for Big Pharma and their medical puppets. These are the same folks who smugly dismiss Dr. Pauling's research and still claim there is 'no' evidence that vitamin C can prevent heart disease. Then why did they flatly refuse to even run clinical tests using his vitamin C therapy? The answer is that vitamin C is a huge financial threat to the heart disease industry. While other vitamin deficiencies and dietary factors are involved, the root cause of heart disease is the long term deficiency of the nutrient necessary to heal the arteries. After years of wear and tear from the pumping action of the heart, the interior walls of arteries near the heart become worn down and damaged. In order to repair and heal this damage, large quantities of vitamin C are needed for the body to produce collagen, which is sort of a glue used to maintain the health of all connective tissue. So if there is not enough vitamin C to produce the necessary collagen, then the body has to use cholesterol in the bloodstream as a sort of 'band-aid' to patch over the wounds and prevent death from internal bleeding. That is how the plaques are formed and cardiovascular disease develops. Cholesterol did not CAUSE the wounds, it's only there as a consequence of the wounds. And that is why statin drugs are just a money-making scam.

Oldcarpetcleaner - That super fantastic fellow and cardioligst Peter H. Langsjoen in Texas who worked with his fantastic father, now passed on, had a patient dying from heart failure. The patients only hope was a heart transplant. These wonderful caring cardiologists filled the patient up with COQ10 ubiqunol not COQ10 ubiquinone.
The results X number of months later the patient had a full recovery - no transplant. Here in NZ we had a fellow dying with swine flu, he also had lukemia. This fellow was been kept alive on a machine in Auckland hospital. The family were notified the life support machine was to be turned off. The family insisted on intraveanous Vitamin C therapy. The results 3 days later massive improvement, 10 days later discharged from intensive care, 1 month later discharged from hospital, 12 months later fully active no swine flu and no lukemia. I would never ever trust a pharmaceutical doctor again in my life.
