Lipitor Muscle Pain, Long Time, New Doctor, Prescriptions, Medicines
Posted over a year ago
I had been on Lipitor for many years and gradually developed muscle pain that became so severe I could barely move, when I did have to get up and walk the pain was so bad I cried at times. My doctor back then was not at all responsive so I suffered for a long time before deciding I was going to insist she take me off Lipitor. Not long after stopping most of the pain decreased a great deal.
Propsguy - ok, so here is my problem with this: you say that you suffered a long time with an unresponsive doctor before deciding "I was going to insist she take me off Lipitor."
how can a doctor take you off a medication? can't you simply take yourself off it? we have become so dependent on medicine in this country and so untrusting of the wisdom of our own bodies that we feel we have to get permission from a non-responsive doctor to stop taking a medicine that is causing you pain and grief?
tell me something- how did you feel when you had high cholesterol? you probably felt fine. you probably would never have even known you had high cholesterol if you hadn't had a cholesterol test.
so which is better? to feel good and have a number in your blood work that isn't sanctioned by the medical establishment (who very often reverses their opinions anyway!) OR to be almost crippled and riddled with pain but have great cholesterol numbers on a piece of paper?
you don't live your life on paper!
Lyngarl - I'm not that educated about medicine and with some you can't just take yourself off of it without serious consequences. So I felt at her mercy.
Come to think of it, I didn't have high cholesterol. I was just below borderline. My doctor put me on it because I'm a diabetic and for some reason that was a danger concerning cholesterol.
Thanks for the input, I have a new doctor now who is sooooo much better! :)
He is actually weaning me off a lot of the medicines this other doctor had me on. Makes me wonder if she got some sort of kick back for prescriptions, lol
Lyngarl - Wow, I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I refuse to take statins now, since I don't have high cholesterol. I think that's just plain stupid of doctors to prescribe something that's not even needed.
If you have any links or anything to read about this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks! :)
Propsguy - first, just try googling "statins diabetes"- you'll find many listings that argue both ways. also, try reading- really reading- the package insert from you lipitor. it might be on there. but really look into the writings of dr duane graveline who wrote a book called Lipitor: Thief of Memory (and other books) about his personal experiences with statins and the science behind them- how they work, what they do, etc,
do you have juvenile diabetes or type 2? if you have type 2, you can reverse it with diet. no conventional doctor will admit that in public
Lyngarl - I did a bit of research last night while online and found a lot of stuff to read. It's very interesting, quite an eyeopener.
I'll look for Dr Graveline's book too.
I have type 2.
Bobby - I view statins as white collar crime. Time for consumers to FIGHT BACK on statins. Take a bite out of medical crime. Don't be afraid to stand up to any physician that attempts to prescribe this poison. Don't just tell him no. Tell him HELL NO! Walk out and don't pay him one dime! If consumers don't get tough about this, they will continue to abuse us for their profit. Stamp out medical crime. Say no to statins.
Propsguy - hooray for bobby! yes, i had a kidney issue last year that has as one of it's symptoms excessively high cholesterol. mine hit close to 500! my kidney doc insisted that i take lipitor but i refused. and once the kidney thing resolved, my cholesterol went right back down to where it should be- not to where some chart made by some drug company says it should be.
i am shocked these days that people are so trusting. i grew up thinking that the directives to use so much detergent or so much shampoo were all set by folks who profit whenever you buy more of the stuff. if you're skeptical about shampoo, why not be skeptical when every year the drug companies tell you, through their proxies the doctors, that your cholesterol should be lower and lower.
people have never in the history of mankind been sicker even with all this "miraculous" medical technology! what does that ell you?
