I have had Type 1 Diabetes for many years (54) without any complications of the disease - until I had a mild stroke. Which didn't affect me. Now my doctor makes me take Lipitor. From the very start of taking 10mg Lipitor per day, I got muscle cramps and leg twitches whilst in bed; muscle weaknesses; I even got Plantar Fasciitis and now I limp slightly in that foot. Before I took Lipitor I used to sleep like a baby. Lipitor has made me from a relatively healthy person despite having Diabetes to what feels like an old lady at aged 55. I know it is Lipitor as when I stop taking the drug all unpleasant side effects mentioned above cease. The trouble is my doctor won't give my Insulin without Lipitor and I need Insulin to live, of course. So I am forced to take Lipitor. I find that exercise such as a good long walk during the daytime helps; without it (eg in bad weather when I cannot get outside) the effects of Lipitor are much worse. My cholesterol readings and blood pressure are always good (even before the stroke) so why should I have to be almost crippled by Lipitor?

777 - The answer . . . .the drs. and the drug co's have a HUGE racket going on with the anti-cholesterol drug. .. . . big $$ . . while people are suffer. Sounds like you need to find a new dr. . . there are naturopath drs. who don't push drugs.

Bobby - Frantee, I am going to discuss your situation with some medical professional friends of mine. If things are happening exactly as you described, a physician witholding life saving medicines from a patient unless they take take lipitor, then I see a criminal act. I agree with propsguy above. For right now, accept the lipitor prescription in order to revieve your insulin, and don't swallow the lipitor if you don't want to. In the meantime, search out a new doctor.

Bobby - Take a tiny recorder with you when you see this doctor again. Tuck it in your jacket pocket and leave it on during the whole appointment. Tell him again how much you want to stop the lipitor. Record him withholding insulin unless you take lipitor... Then send a copy to television news media...

Olsen - I would not visit this physician again without a corroborating witness along. You may also wish to access sites that would help you compile information reinforcing your not taking lipitor; dr. duane graveline's site: www.spacedoc.net is a great one. Also agree with finding another physician.discuss with your pharmacist the need for insulin and your doc's refusal to give you a prescription without you taking lipitor which is greatly adversely affecting you. I think it is illegal to refuse life saving medication--do you lnow a friendly lawyer? you could also go to the emergency room and report lack of insulin because you doc refuses to give you a prescription because you can no longer take lipitor....I think they are obligated to give you the insulin.
