I have now have been taking keppra, depakote, and lamictal. This has kept my seizures under control but after taking the lamictal for about six months have the energy of a 60 year old. My Dad is 73...I am 37 and my Dad can walk and run farther than I can. Walking and running is painful. Is their anything I can do to reduce the pain when using my legs? The problem is better after a long nap or when I get up. Walking short distances gets me limping?

Mixesconsidered - EACH MIX & TIME FOR LAMICTAL: My immediate two Q's are What else is in your mix & greatly might these offset each other (see below).
Lamictal truly requires more time for our body adjustments. For me I saw some side effects sooner than benefits. While each case differs…my other medicines haven’t come close to Lamitcal’s net benefits.
EXPERIENCE & LAMICTAL STARTS: I've experienced each of the three with my having only aphasia now (i.e. previously more). I have had the three addressed...Lamictal, Depakote, Keppra, along with several others. My mix is now Lamictal as my key & a little Dilantin, the latter to help for now as my only secondary. For Lamitcal the body can need a minimum of a few months to adjust; that's been my case & worth it for me. The body adjusts quickly to some like Dilantin, which is why I’m on it for now. We’ll slowly, so safely, ease off the Dilantin; I’m even far short of the average Lamitcal for men like me.
MIXES: After my decades of mix experience, prescriptions very often "fight" each other to offset each one's balance in your blood…& therefore sought effectiveness; sedatives in mixes often had some neurologists adjusting me.
The less of a mix obtained has always been my best (i.e. 2 medicines vs. 3 or more).
MY LAMITCAL BENEFITS vs. SIDE EFFECTS: I’m smiling right now, after only 5 months & far short of the average level for my type. My family confirms these while they don't believe these improvements.
**Side Effects: a little balance, some occasional dry mouth
**Seizure Benefits (at this point): Aphasia seizures much fewer & shorter; they're almost not seizures to notice. 50% of seizures merely feelings I’ve had before, but now this half with no communication loss.
**Other Benefits: Clarity, more strength & energy, mood improvement (especially after Keppra), smiling a lot during difficult times, alertness vs. drowsiness
KEPPRA CONCERNS: Please by very careful with this & challenge your doctor with questions & your findings (as with any medicine). My case...I had a 3-way mix with Keppra the only new. If ever a red flag came to me, it’s what Keppra & I put my family through with the swing toward negative mood & anger. My wife & kids were actually scared & I was not the one she’d married. While that’s only my case, my newer neurologist quickly got me off it.
