Kenalog Butt Cheek, Class Action Suit, Better With Time, Dents, Three Months
Posted over a year ago
I to have a huge dent in my right butt cheek. I would be interested in a class action suit. This is ridiculous! It has been about three months since I received the shot. Has anyone noticed their dents getting better with time?
Roo - I had the Kenalog shot 7 months ago in my left butt cheek, which now has a dent too. My dent came on slow and seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure what to do, but I'm very upset.
Deppnden - What you are all describing is exactly what is happening to me.
It started out as a small dent in my buttocks, and now it is growing.
I would certainly love to join a class action lawsuit, this must be stopped, and information should be given as to the side effects before administering this injection.
Please let me know if anyone has contacted a lawyer.

Medlawyer - Although the side-effect that you describe might have a different cause, it is most commonly caused by the improper administration of a Kenalog injection. I am attorney in Boise, Idaho. I am currently assisting a client with her claim for the improper administration of a Kenalog injection. If you would like additional information, please feel free to contact me. My name is Eric Swartz. I can be reached at eric@jonesandswartzlaw.com or by phone at (208) 489-8989.
Washington09 - I am 17 and my doctor gave me the medication for allergies. Now about 7 months later I have a large dent on my lower back, upper buttcheek. I was not at all aware of this when I was givin the shot. I would love to join in on the lawsuit. I think this should be stopped. Please let me know.
Nangelica - I came across your postings with regards to this injection. I was given a injection about 7 months ago due to a skin allergy. I have recently noticed that what starteed off as a small dent in my upper but cheek/ lower back is now becoming a large hole. Can anyone please let me know if it stops growing? I am extemeley worried and have even set up a Dr. Appt this friday to ask about this. I would greatly appreciate any help/advice.Thank you!
Mjsuh1122 - I now also have a golf ball size indentation forming on my butt cheek from an injection. Did you find out any information about a class action law suit for kenalog? would love to hear from anyone who knows infomation at mjsuh1122@yahoo.com
Mjsuh1122 - yes, i also have a dent in my backside from an injection. any news on a class action law suit? please respond to my email mjsuh1122@yahoo.com
Pcmorga - You can fix the dents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a nurse practitioner from Utah. I also had a golf ball sized dent that is now 90% improved. I found a study on line where they injected normal saline into the site. It's a simple procedure that any MD, PA or NP can perform. E-mail me if you have questions and I will be happy to give you more information that you can take to your doctor.
Tcolbert - I too have a large dent in my upper right buttocks. I didn't even know what they were giving me. I thought it was a regular steroid shot. It must have been this medication. The last shot I had was in November of 07, I started noticing it in March of this year. It is not correcting itself. I would also like to take part in a class action lawsuit. You can email me at colbert_tori@yahoo.com
Bella4 - what kind of shot did you have, I had a facet injection and now I have a large dent on my lower back above my butt. It feels as though all the muscle is gone from the area
Meganlane13 - i got my shot in my right buttock over 6 months ago and the dent is unbelievable and embarrassing. My doctor told me NO side effects before she administered the shot. I dont normally get allergy shots, but i had tried everything else and i was miserable. not only did the shot not work to alleviate my allergies, my period was crazy irregular and there is a terrible, golf ball sized dent in my butt. im outraged about this and hope that there is some way to reverse the dent. any ideas??
Researcher - My sister had this exact thing happen to her and the nurse who posted the saline shots is totally right. It took three doctors to find the one that knew that injecting the site with saline to clean off the crystals that eat at the flesh is the solution. Apparently most doctors have no idea what this is. It takes about 8 sessions, and once the crystals are wiped from the skin, then the body will begin to fill in the dent. No one ever mentioned this as a side effect and apparently happens when you tense up and the shot is improperly administered.
Ape0421 - I have the same dent. Please e-mail me if you can help me figure out what I should do. Will the Dr. reimburse me for saline treatments?
Thanks

Ariskosky - Everyone keeps asking about a class action lawsuit, but has anyone really heard about anyone starting one? I have the same dent in my butt and want to do something about it as much as the rest of you!
How would we even go about starting a class action suit up? If we can all get our heads together...let's do it!
Lindamaria - I am English and was given this injection her on the NHS in June 08. Like every other patient on this page, I too have a large dent on my buttock. I am alarmed and very upset. It is huge and I, also am worried that it may get bigger. I have had injections in my feet also over the past four years (for Rheumatoid Arthritis), and increasingly it has become, for me, like walking on broken glass and fashion shoes are out of the question. I fear that the pads beneath my feet have been damaged too. As you say, this is a disgusting state of affairs as, at no time, was I warned of these horrendous side effects. I will post whatever discover now, as I am certainly going to find out why this has happened to me and what I can do about it!
Lacelocks - I am so thankful that I am not the only one facing this horrible dent on my lower back above my buttocks. Please let's do something about this before it affects anyone else. It is ugly and makes me feel ugly. I will never put on another two piece bathing suite again. Please email me of what I can do to help.

Marchbanks - My daughter also has a huge dent in her buttocks and she is a model/actress. This has caused her undue stress trying to stand where this is not noticeable when she has to wear a bikini. Can someone tell me where do you inject the site with Saline. I have called two dermatologists and they have not heard of this.
Thanks, Cindy Campbell
Taggs242 - I have the same dent at the top of my right butt cheek. it is getting bigger and bigger. i received a shot in this spot for poison ivy back in july 2008 and i began to notice the dent early march. I too am very upset about this dent. its big and ugly. But this site has help me understand what is wrong with me. i will be going to the doctor asap!
Walkerch - I have the same thing above my left butt cheek. My hip is starting to do the same. I received an allergy shop last spring and this huge dent just appeared. I showed the doctor and she had no idea what it was, I am certain it is from the shot.
Mj2oe - This is horrible! I to have a huge dent in my right butt cheek. It is very disfiguring and i have developed a complex about it.I am so worried that it will continue to spread .I am going back to my M.D. to get the saline injections even though he said it would resolve on its own.I'm so upset!!!!
Lo22 - I too have a huge dent on my left butt cheeck. It's been growing wider and deeper. I had a shot for steroids almost 7 or 8 months ago. I bruised for a good 3 months and now it has turned In to a dent. I'm very conserned and hate wearing a bikini in fear that it might be exposed. Help please!!!!!!!!! If any one has any news about law suit if possible let me know
Thank you,
Lauren
Anonymous - I have noticed an indent above my left butt and thought it was a normal indentation of the body. But all of sudden, today I realized how big it is and how it is only on one side. If I put both hands on my back, one side is different and It is extremely upsetting. My doctor has given me what I thought were shots of antibiotics a couple times over the last 1 - 2 years, but he is also old and shakey. Usually his wife/nurse helps, but atleast one time she didn't. Maybe he gave me the wrong shot, because my symptoms match what is being described here. It is the weekend, but I will give them a call anyway. Any more info on how to reverse the effects, please?
Sassyncgrl - I noticed a couple of months ago that i had a huge dent in my left buttock......it really looks bad......i asked my Dr and he is gonna check into it. I did get a shot of kenalog and rocephin about Feb when I was sick......I'd really love to know if the kenalog is the reason and if it will always be like this. I am 51 and have only had a couple of these shots my whole life..
Jesso14 - I too have the same dent, left side upper cheek..from a shot about 9 months ago. Mine looks like a dent if you were to push your thumb into playdough. Not too happy either and would also like some feedback if anyone has any.
Wilma25 - I was given a Kenalog shot for allergies about 3 months ago when my doctor insisted it was a quick and easy fix for the allergy season. It did not help my allergies. I was on my period for 32 days, and a dent appeared a month ago at the shot site. It is purplish in color, which seems to be fading slowly, but the dent remains. The doctor who administered this to me denies every having seen such side effects before. It is very frustrating that I wasn't informed about any side effects. If I had known even one of them, I wouldn't have ever considered Kenalog.
Mtb83201 - I am an RN and my wife had this done. She ended up with a large "dent" like most of you. This is caused by atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue (or in other words, it shrinks the fat under your skin). It is a little unsightly and she was not warned about it. It is frustrating, because it didn't even help with her allergies and now we have to deal with this disfigurement. We also were not warned about erratic menstrual periods, either.
We nurses attempt to prevent drugs from leaking into the subcutaneous tissue when we perform what is called a "Z track." See here:
http://www.nurseminerva.co.uk/images/ztrack.gif
As you can see in the picture, the nurse is supposed to pull the skin to the side before penetrating the skin. When this is done, the subcutaneous tissue makes a seal over the muscle tissue so that if the drug wants to leak out, it does not follow a straight line to the surface of the skin where the needle was inserted.
It has been over 6 months. She has gone and seen the doctor about it and they told her that it was permanent. They offered to fix it surgically for free. But it's hard to put yourself in their hands again with a bundle of new risks and no guarantee that the problem will be fixed.
1skippy6 - I have developed a dent from a Kenalog shot given in May of this year. Does this get better on its own, or are the saline shots necessary to arrest the atrophy of the tissue? you can email me at elongercfa@att.net.

Naomischrock - I am so happy to finally have an idea of what is going on. I too recieved a Kenalog shot for an allergic rash I had in June.. I just fond out today from the Doctors office that it was Kenalog.I was never given any side effects of this drug and it didnt even clear up the rash! I am very interested in any info on this and have made an appt with my doctor for tommorrow. I will be contacting the lawyer that posted his number for advice. I am very self consciuos about this "dent" . If anyone has anything else related to this please let me know. Thank you.

Trucklover2 - I too have this same issue. ANy news on what I can do or the lawsuit, Email at Trucklover2@juno.com.. Thanks.....
Bronagh22 - i got an injection for hayfever early spring, this indentation appeared a few weeks/months later and it is absolutely hideous, and on top of that the injection didnt work one bit.is there ANY way of making it go away/less obvious without the surgery option?
Just1dani - Thank goodness i'm not the only one! I had the Kenalog injection in may/june 09 and by November 09 i had a dent on the righthand side of my lower back / buttocks! Its growing and looks scarred! After visiting my Doctor she referred me to see a Dermatologist @ the hospital. I have the appointment next week and if she confirms that is it due to the Kenalog injection then i will be contacting a Lawyer as I was never informed of these side effects! Unlike everyone else though, the shot did clear up my bad hayfever and skin allergy!
Anonymous - I too have a dent on my right lower back/upper butt cheek, and until I came across this site I had not even thought to link it to the Kenalog shot I received last June. Has the lawsuit been implemented? I would love to be a part of it. Also, has anyone had any success in fixing the dent with either saline injections or another method?
Pinkblue_mms - Oh my gosh!! I am so glad that I found this website!!! I seriously thought that something was wrong with me or that I had some kind of muscle degeneration disease!! I had developed a dent in my right buttocks muscle a while back and became worried when it didnt reside. I completely forgot that I had received a steroid shot for a bad case of poison ivy several months ago!! Im not sure if it was kenalog but I sure am going to go find out!! Has anyone's dent gotten any better?
Loulou629 - I received a shot of depo medrol two months ago. This is similar to kenalog because its also a steroid and I also have a dent now. I just noticed it and its sore and obviously I am so worried how bad it will get. Have any of you found resolution for your dents be it physically or legally? Please let me know
Hansel - Hi my name is Cindy I got my first dent on my right side of my buttocks eight years ago. The dent got 1 inch deep and 1 inch wide and very painful.
I had to have surgery to repair it but it was to damaged now i have pain all the time. I had to get a shot for a bad migraine the other day while she was giving me the shot it was burning. I have been in pain since and now I see another dent starting. I have been to so many doctors and know one knows what it is or why this is happening. I am in so much pain all the time it hurts to sit walk bend over. I'm so tired of it I wished I could find a doctor that could help me.
Medrn - That's a side effect of some intramuscular injections. How can you sue for a known side effect of that drug? It's up to the consumer to research anything that's being put in your body.
Susans - That is rather harsh !! The thing is the side effects are not known. I didnt know and it seems that nearly eneryone who has posted on this site did not know. We trust our doctors to warn us and inform of potential side effects of an injection and unfortunately in most cases we are not.
2dents - Wow, i don't know about you, but if we never had internet, I guess we would never know anything. We shouldn't take all information and lack of knowledge for granite, right medrn? In fact, we wouldn't even be reading about how everyone has this similar side effect if it weren't for the internet. If I'm a teen or young adult and it's not a Rx that I can pick up at the pharmacy that gives me a pamphlet with the known side effects, then it's expected from the doctor to have the knowledge and expertise to inform their patient. After all, you get paid enough to know, right? Very interesting. I've got a good story for everyone on this page. I've been getting the kenalog shot since I was 14yrs old. I'm now 26 and have gotten it twice a year, every 6 months. Some years I had no medical insurance so only went in the fall when my allergies are the worst. So 2shots a yr X 12yrs means I've gotten the injection probably about 20 times in my life. Hate to think what my back will look like in another 10yrs. The kenalog has most certainly helped my allergies and am grateful for that; however I've had this interesting decrease in my skin (like a dent) on my lower right back, near where the injection goes in. Can't say it's the same spot in which the injection was inserted though. I noticed the 'dent' a few years ago... it was barely there, I'd just thought I had dimples in my back or something. Then it got larger and light purplish/pink in color with some hair growth. I asked my gynecologist and she had never seen anything like it, but advised to see a dermatologist. I saw a dermatologist in March 2010, she said she saw the problem in children, never adults. She didn't say what it was pretty much because she didn't know. She just said that the fat was all gone, which is probably why I bled so much when she took a biopsy. So, she took a biopsy and the results came back stating there was extensive hemorrhage within the subcutaneous tissue, possibly due to trauma. Just about a few wks later, it's spring, my allergies are horrendous and I get my next shot. I remember thinking as she gave the shot to me 'Hmm, I wonder... could just be a coincidence.' I just went to the beach less than 2wks ago and I noticed a few days ago in the shower that there is another 'dent' just a little lower from the other, but it wasn't there 2wks ago and the dent is almost the size of the other and again, has a bit of hair growth, but don't see a color change. So, I have 2 'dents' now, not 1. I plan to contact all 3 doctors, the 2 that gave it to me (in the same office) for the past 12yrs and the dermatologist. I'd recommend filling out a complaint with the FDA.
Equus8cmc - I'm really surprised to see so much about this. My "dent" from an allergy shot lasted for almost a year. It was painful to the touch (like a sore muscle). It's now gone. If "pcmorga" is correct (see above comments), then it just "ate" the fatty tissue in my bottom?! Well, either I now have more to fill it in, or my vigorous exercise routine I took part in made it smooth out. It looks like normal now.
Leisa13 - I have been getting depromedral shots every 8 weeks for the past several years for relief from my RA. I noticed a dent in 1 side above my butt which grew to be as long as my hand. Then I noticed the same thing happening on the other side. I never dreamed it could be a side effect of those injections! I had an "extended" tummy tuck 2 years ago, the dents were gone. I have just noticed a new golf ball sized dent on my right side, and it is where the nurse gives me the injection. Thru the years I've been getting these injections I always relax that muscle, and I've never noticed the nurse tightening the skin, she just jabs the needle in. I do have a good exercise regime, but the dent continues. It is not painful as others have mentioned. However the skin has a different texture, looks like scarring & light bruising. Now unlike others, I am not self conscious about it & it does not stop me from wearing a bikini. I'm just so glad to know what is causing this! I definitely do NOT want to go thru more cosmetic surgery!
1 poster mentioned that the denting is a known side effect of the steroids. My Doctor only mentioned side effects of long term usage such as moon face.
Unknowingrph - I just happened to google "dent in my butt" thinking nothing would come up, and was shocked to find this website and realize that I, too had a Kenalog shot about 4 months ago. My symptoms are exactly what everyone else describes--a dent, or "hole" in my right buttocks. It feels like fat or muscle has separated. Has anyone had any success getting rid of it?
Pleaseshareinfo - I also have the dent right above my left butt cheek. I received the kenalog shot in Sept of 2009 for extreme poison ivy and had no issues with it. I had even worse poison ivy again in May of this year and received 2 Kenalog shots about a month apart. When the nurse was administering the 2nd one I remember thinking to myself it was odd she gave it to me above my butt instead of on my butt. In July I noticed the dent. I went to the Dr today and he said it is VERY rare for atrophy at the site of a Kenalog shot. He obviously has no idea what he's talking about, b/c there are hundreds of websites like these mentioning the issue. He also did NOT tell me any of the side effects of it. I myself had to ask him what the shot was even called. I had horribly poison ivy so I was desperate for relief, and it was the only thing that cleared it up in Sept 09, so that's why I got it again. I'm extremely worried that the dent will get larger. I'm going to research the saline shots but I'm going to a plastic surgeon at St Johns first to see if they know anything about the saline. I know people keep saying "message me if you know how to fix it or if you know of a lawsuit" but if someone does know any info on either, please just say so on this message board so that everyone can see it. We're all concerned, we all want the info so please, if you have any, share it.
Angryashell - This past February, I had an allergic reaction which was addressed with a steroid shot. After a while the dent appeared and the skin over the dent is whitish. Im very pissed off to say the least. 6 months later its still there... I cant tell you if its getting better. I dont think its getting worse but it is an obvious mark.
Angryashell - UPDATE! I have been doing hours of research on this. If you check acne websites, steroids are often injected into cysts. Many of the patients experience dents in their face for up to a year. But the replies I read, did say they got better and/or filled up.
Another online source stated that it cant take anywhere from 12 to 30 months for them to even out. Everyone positing here seems to be in the throws of this experience. I dont know if anyone here has waited over a year to see if its better.
Various words I used to look these things up included Necrosis or atrophy at injection site. Dent after injection. Dent after cortison. Lipoatrophy etc. etc. Apparently this is more common then whats actually stated by doctors or dermatologists.
Tngirl - I received a similar shot this past April, and I recently had a appt. with my doctor because I had developed a large dent as well. It is located on lower right side of my back/upper right buttcheek. It's called Fat Atrophy. My Doctor actually admitted that it happened because the injection was administered improperly. It went into my soft tissue instead of into the muscle. He said that he has seen it one other time, and it corrected itself after a year. He apologized many times, and offered to refer me to a plastic surgeon. If my insurance doesn't cover it, he said he will help pay for treatment...we'll see if this happens. The plastic surgeon said it will require liposuction in another area such as the abdomen, and an injection of the fat into the dent. He said it is best done as an operating room procedure with anesthesia. He seemed to be very defensive of the other doctor, and he told me that this can just happen, and it doesn't matter how it's administered. He basically said it's a weird reaction by body had. (even though I've received the shot before with no problem) When I asked what causes it then, he said "hundreds of denominators." Wow, very clear, thanks. So now I am totally confused, however, I am hopeful to learn it can fixed! Also, I have hypo-pigmentation, or a lightening of the skin in that area, and he said that that can be corrected with a skin tattoo. He said darker skin shades are easier to match. Oh, and I forgot to mention the liposuction treatment may have to be done twice. The Plastic Surgeon took photos of the area and sent it to me insurance company to see if they will cover it. We are waiting to hear back. I hope this helps someone!
Mtb83201 - My wife has had her dent for over 1 year and it has only gotten more discolored. Especially when she is cold, the injection site gets dark. Plastic surgeon threw his hands in the air "nothing I can do" he says.
Brerohodo - Hi, I'm a 27 year old female with cystic acne. I'm currently on roaccutane ( 2 months now) bt before I started the pills I had a Kenalog shot in my cyst (left cheek).
My cyst disappeared with 24 hours bt within a matter of weeks I'd developed skin atrophy (huge dent). A lot of you have it on your butt cheeks and I understand that's terrible bt imagine that dent on the face! I was MORTIFIED! Its enough I have to suffer with the cystic acne which comes and goes plus the other spots bt then I walked around with a hole in my face! Let me just say it has GONE away thank god! It took a LONG time I'd say 5-6 months bt it did go!! So please try to stay patient.however, if the dent hasn't budged after 7 months I'd say pay a visit to a derm.
I did go back to the dermatologist who injected me and all he had to say was " it will heal, its a side effect) I was ready to sue!
I'm now in the hands of another dermatologist who's wonderful. I've been injected 4 times (today was one) in the same area where this cyst won't budge and I've had no atrophy while he administered it! Its true when they say that the doctor or nurse who administers it has to be VERY careful. He's even more cautious since there was a dent there and only injects a little.
Let's just be careful with who we trust! Our butts and faces aren't a game and its horrible we've all been through this.
Valeriek - Hello, I was wondering if there has been any further investigation into a class action lawsuit for lipoatrophy caused by Kenalog injection? This past March, a nurse practitioner at my doctor's office gave me an allergy shot and within a couple of months, I got a huge dent in my left butt cheek at the exact location of the injection. I used to have a cute tush and now I have a big hole in my left buttock and you can see it even through clothes. Even my mom says it looks just awful and you know how moms always try to reassure. After requesting my medical records, sure enough, the injection I received was Kenalog. It's been 7 months with no improvement and so I recently had Sculptra injected into the dent to try to fill it in. It barely made any difference and cost me $850.00! Does anyone have a doctor to recommend who can do the saline treatment talked about on this website? I live in Scottsdale, AZ - is there anyone in the western region? And are any of you joining a class action lawsuit - this has been a devastating experience.
Kkirkman - I'm curious as to how your dents are now. Did they ever get completely better? Please email me at krystal@kirkmanrealestate.com
Simmone - simmone i had 4 of the shots in a yr ent office never told this could happen i have the indention also will this keep getting bigger i just thouht i had lost alot of muscle or lost weight back there i think we just need to get some lawyers or go after the dr that did this to us 12/05/10
Ready - I'm having the same problem and it seems that I can feel mine working, like its something in there eating it away... it's not painfull just feels kinda hot or something, I'm scared now that I read all the post's. Please help if you can montel.gay@konecranes.com
Anniesar - AnnieM- I also had a huge hole in my butt cheek, caused by a steroid injection 2 years ago. It did not fill in as Dr. said it might. It ate all the way down to the soft tissue and was stuck there. Painful to move the hip because the spot was so deep. Asked my Dr. about it and he said he could refer me to a plastic surgeon, but when asked for help with my bill, the practice refused to admit wrong and will no longer treat me or my husband as a patient. I had it fixed by a plastic surgeon who lipoed fat and filled it in, and sutured it shut. I have a 7 inch incision that is healing nicely. I'll always have a scar, but no more hole or pain. I haven't received bills yet, but plan to persue a lawyer to cover payment for anything my ins. doesn't cover. The Plastic surgeon said they just pop in the injections like they're a flu shot and don't get it in the muscle and then it eats the fat away. Cost, about $3000. Someone should warn us about this drug. When I mentioned it to my Dr., he stated "medicine isn't a perfect science". Who is training these nurses who are giving them anyway? 2/4/2011
Mommacass - this is something I have dealt with for years now, I would love to say it goes away. Mine started out very slowly almost as if I had an 'X' that marked the spot, and over a matter of months the spot got so large I can fit my fist in the dented area which is on my upper left area of my bum. when it first occured it was after receiving the Kenalog shot, the only way the dent seemed to go away is after I'd gained about 20lbs. but I got sick and my Dr. gave me the shot again telling me it shouldn't affect the area the same way twice, well low and behold I havea dent in my rear AGAIN. I don't know what to do or how to make it go away, so if someone can help or has legal advise please contact me @ mommacass@privacyharbor.com
Angryashell - This is another update for me, its been about a year now since I got my shot. I have to say that it has gotten better... now that doesnt mean its GONE but its not nearly as deep or as wide. I want to say its the size of a quarter now and half an inch deep with a slightly purplish thin vein near its center.
It might take another year for it to go away... if it keeps on healing/improving. It seems some people have decent turn around for this and other people have gone as far as surgery to correct it. Still, I find things on it... such as children getting shots in their legs and large craters appearing, and acne sufferers who have seen the same.
I'm hopeful it will continue to improve.
Angryashell - Some sites say that it will go away... such as acne sites where these injections go into their face, and a dent appears on the face. I've heard everything from injections of IV solution at the site, to laser treatments that rebuild collagen, to skin grafting, and fat injections.
Mine has gotten smaller over the year but it is still noticible and still there. Some sites say it take 2-3 years for it to flesh out. But everyone is different.
Angryashell - It's a shame we are not warned of these types of reactions. I'm sorry you have to battle acne AND dents. Luckily minocycline controls my acne most of the time.
Anonymous - Hey, just wanted to let ypu guys know, miine filled back in by self. I wrote over year ago, so shot was probably a good 2 years ago. Doc said he gave me antibiotic shot but because of what happened I think he may have given me a steroroid. It was really ugly, very deformed looking pocket above my but. Really upsetting. Dermatologist call is fat absorption. Any one else get this from nonsteroroid shot? Hey, but there's hope, they can fill back in by self. Mine was shockingly bad. Very odd looking. Good luck to everyone!
Shaela - Please let me know how I can contact you. I have the same problem, and want to cure this as simply and soon as possible.
Lindamaria - Lindamaria: I just can't believe it!!! Look how many of us have suffered the shock of, weeks/months after the injection of this dodgy drug Kenalog, fiinding that the fat beneath our skin is being eaten away leaving horrible and massive scarring!!!! This cannot be a secret!!! So WHY weren't we warned? I would never have agreed to it! We are supposed to be treated with "informed consent"!!!! And if - and I suspect is the case - the damage is exacerbated by the incompetence of the nurse, then the reply I received when I wrote to the hospital complaining is a lie!! You are right Angryashell, I am too!! My golf ball size dent has filled out ever so slightly but the scarring remains and is often itchy and sore to touch. It is still ugly and I feel sick and angry when I look at it. My family doctor said that although she has never seen this before, she has read and heard about it, She confirmed it was the Kenalog injection that had caused it. So, before it is too late (we have three years in which to bring litigation here), I am going to see a solicitor. It beggars belief that other people posting on this site are having to pay out hundreds/thousands of dollars in an attempt to have these dents reconstructed. It, however, muddies the waters a bit if the company producing Kenalog can blame the provider and visa versa. Latest post here Emma says "it can fill back in by itself", but I have red/purple scarring to my skin, in a "drifting down" (drawn down by gravity when the drug was injected), shape which is bigger than a quarter dollar, (like a burn scar) which I believe to be permanent and would, as others have said, have to be cut out. I worry lots about little kids having these damaging injections for hay fever, allergies and acne. It should be stopped. But it won't be while there are big profits to be made from selling it worldwide. Like its been said here, without the internet we wouldn't know about each other - vive la net x I will post again. And thank you everyone here x
Ania45 - is everyone here ready for a class action suit ? We all have to stay united in this so others can be protected .Please let me know.I am also one of the victims as well.
I am about to contact loyer friend. We have now enough of evidence .Please respond that we can count on you in this horrible situation .
Thank you

Hellyes - oh good. today I saw a plastic surgeon today after seeing a dermotologist yesterday. the kenalog shot -80 was in Sept. The necrosis started a couple months later. The 4 X 4" Dent (est. by the surgeon) now aches constantly, and I believe it is now affecting my sciatic nerve, as I experience increasing discomfort sitting, riding, etc. The surgeon gave me several options ranging in price from 1K - 8K, starting with a simple "cut out and pull fat from above and below," to "several injections of fat from belly into the hole," up to "full-out tummy tuck after taking the fat from my belly and putting it into the HOLE" in my right butt cheek. (I would just have More wrinkly skin in my belly, since I have had a C-Section, and have also lost some weight that I'd carried for many years.) Afterwards, I would face problems such as: possible continued pain from the initial insult, and possible "hardening or lumpiness of the transplanted fat" (up to 50% of patients.) I will likely seek a local personal injury lawyer next.
Juice21 - Justine- I have the same problem!! I have been worried sick because the hole is getting larger. I want to try these saline injections but I don't know how much at a time is neccesary and how often should I get theses saline injections? Please help me. juicediego@aol.com
Juice21 - Did you ever find any information about a class action lawsuit for Kenalog?? I am suffering from the same thing and I am very upset over it.
Ape0421 - I can't believe that this stuff is still being used after so many dents! Mine is mostly filled in now without doing anything, but I have an article on saline injections used to help get rid of the dent. I too saw a plastic surgeon but refused to have fat taken from elsewhere and put into the dent. It was weird because my dent area hurt the most when I was sick with a fever. I really think my higher body temp helped release it further into other areas (of course plastic surgeon looked at me like I was crazy). Email me for the article ape0421@gmail.com and please let me know if anyone does a class action lawsuit for this. thanks.
Zk786 - I've had a dent in my right upper buttocks after recieving a allergy injection last yr june. Its just horrible and i never expected it to give such a side effect. I feel better knowing im not the only one but would someone please tell me how it can go back to normal. Its not right that so many of us have got this. I would have never got the shot if i knew i would have got a dent 7months later. Help plz
Nursekatie - I got a kenalog shot one week ago and have a dent in my butt the size of a golf ball it also hurts like crazy and looks gross. I am going to my family Dr today Geeez I am in nursing school and was not taught the proper administration of kenalog.
Nicolemt214 - I received a steriod shot in Februrary ,when I was very sick with mono, in my upper left butt cheek. I was not told of any side effects!! I noticed last week that a dent had formed and the middle of the dent looks like it's bruised. After reading everyone's responses I am now concerned about it getting bigger or deeper. I am interested in finding out more information about the class action lawsuit. I live in Jackson NJ and my email is NicoleMT214@aol.com.
Mabel2003 - I have this same problem due to a kenalog injection about a yr and a half ago.please email me at mabel_g2003@yahoo.com or mjudithgaldamez@gmail.com
Cnorman - Mine was from the DEPO SHOT
I just wanted to post in case there is someone else like me, I have the dent in my stomach. Ugh, With summer time here, I'm very self conscience about it. Mine is from the DEPO shot. I have had it in the past but got it in my butt, this last time I received it, the PA gave it to me in the belly, to the left of my belly button, she said they had "changed" it since the last time I had gotten it. There is a visible dent but more like its "shallow" area rather than looking like I poked my finger in play do. I'm pretty thin and I'm wondering, if I slim down more, will it just make the other side look more like the "dented" side (ie more "normal"). Maybe I slim down and gain weight and it fills in... I don't know, I called the office where I received the shot and they are supposed to call me back on Tuesday (because of the holiday weekend) also inside the "shallow" area there is a bit of a lump and in the right light it looks a little lighter in color. I received the shot 3 months ago.
Bamagirl78 - Ngreene- I have the same dent in my left upper butt area. I am horrified by it. I don't know what to do. If anyone has any answers, please let me know.
Zk786 - i'm going down to the hospital next month to see a dermatologist about this dent. Hopefully if i receive any useful information i will post again. maybe it can help. i'm also going to mention the saline.
Nenarojas - I got an injection I think february 10 nd now have a big dent nd I've been thinking about suing the clini but dnt knw where to startvi live in dallas tx my email is vikirojas57@gmail.com thnx
Ape0421 - Hi,
I am not keeping this e-mail account but if anyone is interested in the article to show to your doctor for their opinion it is titled, "Treatment of Local, Persistent Cutaneous Atrophy Following Corticosteroid Injection with Normal Saline Infiltration"
By: Peter SHUMAKER, MD,* JAGGI RAO, M D , T AND MITCHEL P. GOLDMAN, MD'
I was able to download it through my college's library / online publications.
I never got saline injections, but after 2-3 years the dent slowly filled back in. It was nevertheless scary and unsightly to myself.
Wilma25 - I posted about year ago (wife of mtb83201), and I am disgusted with the amount of people who have been deformed by this drug. On the bright side (2 years after the injection) my dent has very very very slowly been getting better for the last 6 months. I think coincidentally gaining a little weight (only 8 pounds) has actually helped. The coloring is looking a little more normal (less purple) and the dent is more the size of a dime pushed into my skin rather than a quarter. It's definitely still noticeable, but I now have hope it will continue to improve throughout time.
Mone - This is really crazy. I had a shot of Kenelog about six months ago. And just noticed a few days ago the dent in my upper right of my butt. I started to freak out. And I remembered that this is the spot where I got my shot. I started to look it up online and I came across this site and now it all makes sense. I am in complete shock to see that so many people have the same problem. My doctor just like everybody elses never told me that this could happen. I just thought I would get some relief of my exzema that was so bad at this time. So, what I got a little relief and a big dent in my butt. Now, I wonder will it go away or get bigger in time, I am so mad that Doctors don't tell you about this. But, reading thruw everybody's coments some say after a few years the dent will fill up. I really hope so. I am so happy I came across this site to see that others have the same problem I thought I was the only one. Called my Doctor today and they have not called me back yet, If I get any info I will right back and let everyone know
Robynkaye08 - Same thing here. I noticed the dent earlier today but thought it was just the position I was in. Then a couple hours later my husband noticed it. Googled and when I started reading posts on this site it all made sense. Got the shot back in February. Dr. made no mention of this side effect. Extremely unhappy right now. But glad I seem to have at least found the cause.
Mone - Hi, called my Dr. and got to talk to the nurse and she said " Yes, that can be a side effect from the shot" and that she had one of the dent's befor too. She said it will go away on his own and not to worry and she said it will not get any bigger. I am glad to hear that it should got away on his on and that it is not supposed to get any bigger. But, I am so mad that they never told me that this could happen. That is crazy. Oh, and befor I forget the front desk girl told me befor I talked to the nurse. Oh yes that can happen they injectet to much meds and this medicine is so strong and that's why this happens. I can't believe this is it so crazy. I just hope it is true and this dent will go away in time. We will see
Warhoff - Thank you all for the great information and for sharing your stories. I too have fallen victom to the Kenalog shot. From November 2010 to July 1, 2011 I have received 6 injections and now I have a HUGE dent in my right upper buttock and it is black and blue. It hurts and so does my hip and leg. I did some research and found many of the symptoms I have been having, such as headaches, fatigue, stomach problems and on and on are also identified with the Kenalog injection. I too was never told of it's side effects and unless you know what to look for one won't find much. I typed in...what does it mean when you have a indentation in your buttock...and Kenalog popped up. that is the first time I made any connection. No one anywhere ever discused this or knew about it. I am passing it all on and looking for a lawyer! Feel free to contact me if you want to share your info or thoughts. Thanks again to everyone for sharing. Bonnie You can reach me at warhoff@aol.com
Ania45 - Hello all,
I have found a lawyer who wants to take this case for all of us,please email me at dreamhomeslv@hotmail.com who wants to be in it . As I have mentioned previously I am also one of the victims of that shot. Thank you

Ania45 - Hello all,
I have found a lawyer who wants to take this case for all of us,please email me at dreamhomeslv@hotmail.com who wants to be in it . As I have mentioned previously I am also one of the victims of that shot. Thank you

Cindyq - I have a dent like this, and it is really frustrating because I think this area is one of my best physical "assets!" I am going to make an appointment with a dermatoligist and discuss the saline treatment. Mine has a very dense nodule at the bottom/center of it that has started to become painful.
Nursekatie - I just emailed Ania45 I am ready for a class action suit this is so disgusting and damn it L lost over 15 lbs for the swim suit season but can not show my hind end now in a swim suit!
Judydellach - I am a victim also and am interested in the lawsuit. I have a dent in my right butt cheek after receiving the Kenalog shot back in Feb 2011. It still aches today 6 months later and the crater/dent is getting larger. Had a host of female cycle problem after having the shot. Never did the doctor or nurses advise me that these side effects were even possible. Ridiculous!!!! Please email judydellach@gmail.com
Seeing - Ali - I'm SO glad I found this! I've been obsessing over this painful dent & cannot believe it's from a shot! I was given 2 steroid shots for a severe allergic reaction. The 1st shot was administered at an urgent care on my left side, the 2nd at my dermatologist's office by the nurse on my right side. The dent has formed only on the right. It's sore and feels - & looks - as if the muscle is gone, it's horrible! After reading all these posts, I'm more than concerned it will grow worse & never heal! I'll be making an appt with my derm asap to discuss WHAT can be done! Please contact me if action is taken. seeing.clearly@live.com
Seeing - UPDATE: The steroid shot I was given at my dermatologist's office back in June was in fact Kenalog! I called and spoke directly with the nurse who administered the shot. She had never heard of any such reaction, but after she spoke with the dr., said to come in today and he'll TRY flushing the area with saline. I asked if this was something the dr. had heard of and she said yes! She was extremely nice, not defensive (thank God)! She did call me back to confirm that was the last shot I was given…she told me that I should have seen the side-effect within a few days. If it appeared that quickly, I didn't notice. It's possible, but not likely I'd miss something like this. It aches - which is how I discovered it in the first place. I'm also petite and thin - it's noticeable. From my all-night research, the area looks EXACTLY like a Kenalog injection indentation. Praying these saline injections correct this! Update to follow.
Thetruthofit - I got a shot of "something" when i was 5 years old, and with a fever of about 104, rushed to the er. All i remember is feeling pain where i got the shot for days and days. Then as i got older i noticed the indentation that shot caused in my right butt cheek. I think its the way the shot is administered. Plus it may be a reaction of the drug with the fatty tissue. Now I am in my forties, and would like to fix the problem if I can not just because it looks bad but because it still has a sense of pain in that area. One would think with all the medical advances we have made in the last 100 years, this would not even be an issue ever. but when you are child, you have no ability to question doctors or nurses let alone ask what the side affects are. they have a responsibility to be aware of this problem and correct it all costs. its their JOB.
Arf101202 - I just found my "dent" two days ago. I have had several Kenalog injections in the past few years due to allergic reactions. Can it take some time to form the dent? I ask because it has been at least 6-12 months since I had an injection.
Abba25 - Oh My!! reading all these posts .... - I suffer with horrible seasonal allergies and was given the Kenalog shot to alleviate the symptoms. I have had the shot several times over the years. Once when it was administered on my upper butt (as opposed to my lower butt) :D an indentation did form - after bruise-like appearance. It went away maybe after a year.
Over a year ago I had another administered in my upper arm and unfortunately it left an indentation. This was not the first time it was administered in my arm - but the first time it left an indentation. It still does not look good. I am hoping that it goes away like my other one did.
- I am going to up my intake of herbal stinging nettle - supposedly that helps. What is puzzling to me is why over the years has the indentation manifested itself only twice when I probably have had the shot 5 or 6 times.
Gingersm - I discovered my dent today and found this website. i got a steroid shot several months ago for severe poison ivy. I'm not sure what it was exactly, I will check into. My dent is aching. Some people mentioned a severe change in menstrual cycle too. I have experienced extremely heavy periods and worse cramping than ever before and I realize it has been since the shot; that time exactly??? So scary.
Alij31 - AliJ31 - I am so relieved to be reading all of this as I had a doctor's appointment tomorrow to see what the heck is wrong with my arm. I received the Kenalog shot 6 months ago after experiencing the most miserable hayfever. I requested a certain prescription nasal spray from the doctor but she told me she would rather do the Kenalog shot. She said nothing about any side effects, just sent in the nurse who asked me if I wanted it in my butt or arm. I had my two boys with me so I chose my arm (having no idea it wasn't supposed to be administered in your arm). She gave me the shot and sent me on my way. About 3 weeks later, I noticed my arm was getting really deformed like someone had run over my arm with a bike and the indentation scarred. It is purple and looks awful. Everyone notices it. The shot did work for me as I went from not being able to breath to not having any signs of allergies. It took about 3 weeks to kick in though. Pretty bummed about my deformed arm as I used to have really nice arms and now I am self-concious to wear short sleeved shirts.
Hpnat415 - I too have a dent in my upper left butt cheek. After coming across this site I realized that I had a steroid shot in the location of the dent about three months ago for allergies. The dent and purplish scar appeared out of nowhere and I am very upset. Please let me know if any of you have had success in fixing this problem. I am afraid to wait a few years to see if it clears up or gets worse. Thanks and good luck!

Amw527 - I just went to the doctor this morning and it is called a Fat Necrosis. It is not because it was Kenelog it is just something that can happen with any shot that has to go through the subdermal layer of fat. It happens more often with allergy shots because of the fact that most of us carry a thicker layer of fat in that area. When the needle cannot get all the way through the fat layer it is possible for some of the fat and tissue to travel back up through the needle which in turn leads to the Necrosis. If it is tender a simple anti-inflamitory rub will help ease the pain and it will eventually go away as the fat and tissue readjust to their normal places.
Frey'sdent - I have a HUGE dent... I was reading your posts about possible saline shots, and the one about workout regiments and filling in! Although I'm going to try anything I can, if there is a lawsuit, I'd like to be a part of it please. I see a lot of posts saying similar things, do I need to contact someone? Or will someone contact me? Thank you!
Leano - I've had my dent for all my life but got it from and injection as an infant, will that reverse proceedure help me? i'm in South Africa and wonder if any doctor would know how to help, its anoyed me sinse grades school and is now worsening cos i've grown into my hips but the other hip is lopsided now, so frustrating. strawbliin@gmail.com
Melaniegron - Please if anyone is involved in a class action lawsuit I would like to be part of it. Large dent (golf-ball size) and my injection was 5 months ago. I'm nervous that it will not stop growing. melaniegron@hotmail.com
Dentedbuthopefullynotforlong - Hello, I have kenalog dents too. My derm prescribed me antibiotics for my acne in July, I took them because nothing else seemd to be working. I had an allergic reaction to the pills so his nurse gave me a kenalog shot. I asked if there were any side effects she said that there were none at all. I now have a massive dent in my upper arm...you can see the tendon and muscle...
He also gave me two kenalog shots in two cysts on my chin, I was reluctant to get it done but he said if I didn't the cysts would scar and assured me that there would be no side effects. My lower face is now sunken in and wrinkles are more apparent ad have popped up since I got them, I assume because a lot of fat has atrophied so there is nothing to plump up my face. A dent runs down one side of my chin that looks like a scar.
I have started getting saline injections over the last month which has helped a little bit. Especially my arm...I will post again to let you know how it goes.
Virginia_ - it's now 12/2011. I was in hospital, emergency situation; lungs heart, in April. I thought this dent thing was a natural part of aging, wo knows? I'm 59 and not in the greatest of health. Lungs and allergies.
So these beginning posts were over a year ago, but it's still happening. Hmmm. We're going to contact insurance to see if we can't get a detailed list of what was administered in the emergency room. After reading these posts, I don't know if this is going to stop or if it will continue. Golf ball sized now and i only weigh 120 with shoes and clothes.. The question I have is how do you know or control what "they"'re going to give you in the E R? Nobody is likely to question anything they do. And what other side effects can I expect from whatever was pumped into me? I know what happened with 5 days of saline, I became the Michelin man. So now what?
I'm less interested in a class action and more interested in - is this going to stop or will it get bigger?
Anonymous - Grace- I received a Kenolog injection of 40mg in my left buttock approx 3 months ago to reduce some inflammation in my leg from a spider bite. Two months after the injection I started to bruise at the site. I ignored it thinking it would go away...it did not. About 2 weeks later I noticed a slight indentation under the bruising. I was so scared. That's why I ignored it. I mean, I often thought of it and tried to convince myself the indentation was not getting worse, but it did get worse, much worse. I now, 3 months later, have pain sitting from a .5 inch indentation that is hideous. After reading many helpful sites online-this one being especially helpful-I diagnosed myself, gathered manufacturing info, strengthened my emotions through prayer and made an appointment to talk one-on-one with the doctor who had authorized the injection. I, like others, was not warned of side effects. My doctor, knowing I am holistic, assured me this drug was safe. He was adamant I relax and trust him...When I went to his office I showed him the area and he said, "yep, that's from the Kenalog shot, thank goodness its in a place few people will see. His comment was absolutely maddening!! In tears, I asked him how he felt about his patients being worse off after they leave his office than when they arrived. I also told him I knew it was from an improperly given injection. Furthermore, there is 14 pages of side effects on Squibbs website from Kenalog!! Drugs DO NOT heal, they alleviate symptoms. Please, do your own research before taking any medication. Doctors don't know it all!! I am praying for us all to recover from this nightmare!
Cmaj12 - I received my shot this past September and didnt notice anything for a month and then it started. I have a dent in my upper left arm that is caving in more and more as time goes by. It is sore and is purple in color and is now about 4 inches long. The dent is getting worse and deeper like it is eating into my flesh. I am also afraid to wear a short sleeved shirt as well. I cant believe this! The nurse said it would clear up in six months but now after reading these posts, I am not so sure. I would hate to go through the rest of my life with this ugly dent in my arm. HELP.

Culady55 - Patty-I have gotten steroid shots within this year but not until yesteday New Years Eve that I noticed this huge dent on my upper left butt area. It scared the heck out of me and thought oh my God I am going to get these all over not knowing what caused it. I fell better knowing many others were having this strange thing happening to them I was not alone. It looks terrible. I feel like a freak.I hope it does go away.Should we start a class action suit against this shot and not being told about this possible side effect. If anyone knows how or who we can contact about this please let me know. fpxd15@yahoo.com Good luck to everyone who is experiencing this and take care!
Culady55 - Patty-I noticed on New Years Eve a huge dent in my upper left buttock and was scared. I wondered if I accidently hit myself against something that caused it. But what would be that strong to make such a dent. I decided to see if anyone else had this and to my surprise I was not alone. I have had cortisone shots within the year and never told this could be a possible side effect. It looks terrible I feel deformed.I hope it goes away and I am a very petite person so it really looks deep. Maybe a class action suit is something to consider. If anyone knows of where or who to contact please let me know. fpxd15@yahoo.com Good luck to all experiencing this problem and take care.
Zmeg29 - I went to my dermatologist a month ago and got a kenalog injection into an acne cyst (common treatment). I asked if their was a risk of scarring from the shot and he said, "I wouldn't do it if there was a risk of scarring." He said nothing about possible atrophy or side effects. The dermatologist missed the cyst and now I have a dent in my cheek (and a cyst in the middle of the dent, ha ha). If you go to acne.org their is great information about atrophy and a link to a dermatologist article about using saline to flush out the kenalog crystals from your skin may heal faster.. It can take anywhere from 3 months-24 months to heal without intervention. I went to another dermatologist and he said he had a shot in his butt for poison ivy. He had a dent for a year, but it is now completely healed. I have had one saline shot and plan to go every two weeks. You guys should be happy that the dent is not on your FACE! The best thing we can do is be patient. There are so many more worse things that can happen to you in a lifetime and we should be happy with what we DO and Don't have.
Amw527 - Thank you Zmeg29 for being logical. A simple mistake is not a reason for a class action law suit and if we would all just relax these silly things will go away in time. I don't like having a huge dent in my hip any more than the next person but if that is what it took for me to stop suffering all summer long with unbearable allergies I would say it is a small price to pay.
Dentedbuthopefullynotforlong - I can understand about being grateful for what you have etc, but I think that really has nothing to do with the situation. When you pay good money to see a specialist, you trust them with your body and your wellbeing. A lot of the people on this board were not warned about any side effects. When I received a kenalog shot in my arm for an allergic reaction to antibiotics, I asked the nurse if there were any side effects and she said no. I now have a massive hole in my arm that is purple, it looks like somebody took a chunk out of my arm. Sure, worse things could happen...but why should we have to be human guinea pigs at the mercy of doctors who fail to mention any side effects and trivialise them when they happen. Sure, we should educate ourselves about the side effects of medications before taking them or letting them be administered...but if you are covered in hives and are having difficulty breathing from an allergic reaction it is hard to make decisions properly. In cases like this it would be nice to be able to trust doctors.
Sometimes the dents go away, but I have read that a lot of people have them forever. And even if they fill in after two years, why should we have to go through the trauma of having a deformed arm, hip or buttocks for this period? If we were all warned properly at least we would have the choice to make an informed decision. Sure, we should all be grateful for what we have...but this simply should not be allowed to happen in this day and age. If we can fly people to the moon, we shouldn't have to deform peoples bodies to cure an allergic reaction.
Medrn - If everyone was warned of all the potential side effects of every drug they take, no one would take them? You mean to tell me that all of you people are deeming the doctors and nurses as "incompetent" for administering an IM injection where atrophy does happen in some people but not everyone? Yeah blame everything on the nurses! You place all your faith in the doctors and when your body doesn't look the way you want it to , the medical team is incompetent? What about women who get capsular contractures from breast implants and atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue on the arms when carribean persons are vaccinated, do you see them looking for an easy buck or calling the people that tried to help them incompetent?
Dentedbuthopefullynotforlong - Yes maybe you're right Medrn...why should doctors or nurses warn us about any potential side effects? Of course no one would take the drugs...and then maybe some medications would be taken off the market, and we can't have that. We should all just shut up and take what is given to us. And of course the side effects happen to only some of us, so we should allow them to play Russian Roulette with our bodies without any warning. And how ridiculous of us to place trust in doctors...I mean they only studied for about a decade and paid thousands of dollars for a degree...and we in turn only paid hundreds of dollars to seek out their expert advice...how silly of us.
Nursekatie - Nursekatie The kenalog shot is to be given by z track method if given improperly it will cause fat necrosis. I have talked to several Dr.'s and nurses and referenced several nursing books and they all have said the same thing. It does go away but it may take several months and up to 2 years. I still have a huge dent and it is only slightly better.
Amw527 - Dear Dentedbuthopefullynotforlong I look at it this way...if they told you that you could have the shot but it came with the small risk of a dent in your arm, or you could try to get through that reaction without it but you might suffer brain damage or even death from lack of oxygen would you decline the shot? Not likely. Every medication has side effects and millions of people take them every day regardless because the thing it fixes makes it worth it. The point those of us who are saying we should be thankful is that it is not Kenalog's fault, it is not your doctor's fault, or the nurse's...things happen and those things could be much worse. Trying to sue Kenalog is not the solution especially since it isn't the drug that causes the dent. I truly hope your dent dissapears quickly and that you can see that you are just as wonderful of a person with it as you were without it. Maybe you will learn that the things in life that bother us help us build character and provide us with a chance to show how strong we are inside and out.
Virginia_ - Amw527 - yes, yes, and platitudes everlasting, amen. Point is - it would have been nice to know that there was a possibility of ending up with this dent instead of having to go through months of worry after finding it! How random to finally get an answer by googling "butt dent" - no? My own is continuing to grow and the hip is aching. Do I know how long it will continue? No. Do I know if it will get worse? No. Just waited 6 weeks and paid 50 bucks to get my medical records and under injections, it was marked steroid. Are they intentionally not mentioning this kenalog because they know people are trying to find answers now? I would just like to know what to expect.
Amw527 - Virginia I am sorry that you had to go through so much to find out what had caused it. I am blessed with a very good Doctor who was very understanding of my unhappiness with the dent and gave me a very detailed explination of how it is caused, gave me anti-inflammatory cream to help with the pain and didn't even charge me for the visit. I guess I can only hope that more doctors would be patient and understanding like mine is. If your dent is sore you shoud try some anti-inflammatory cream it really makes a big difference.
Ashep - Oh my goodness! I have been sick over this DENT in my right butt cheek, feeling like the tissue is just disappearing and there is a hole in my butt cheek. I do acting and modeling and this just disturbs me and it's embarassing. I broke out with poison ivy in August and got a Kenelog shot in Aug or Sept 2011... It is now Jan 2012 and I have a good size dent in the spot where they give you the shot. I emailed a local physician to see if she has heard anything about this... If anyone gets a class action lawsuit, please add me to the list and let me know if you find any details. This is damaging to our bodies, scarring us. We didn't know this would happen by receiving this shot. ashbrookeparker@yahoo.com
Ambercagg - I am SICK over this. I have been worrying for over a week and FINALLY I find a site with people (sadly) suffering over the same thing as me! I too received a shot back in late Sept. 2011 (unsure of what kind of shot yet, but it was steriods) I went to the urgent care that my family practice offers on weekends and a doctor gave me a shot in my upper right buttock for a severe allergic reaction and also administered oral steriods too. I never thought anything of it until about 2 months ago (dec 2011) I noticed a slight dent and just though it was just a "change" in my body now that I am in my 30's. But the other day I ran my hand and it is SIGNIFICANTLY more indented.. not so much by looking at it as when I press. But, today it is painful and even MORE Indented and you can see it more too. I am sick over it. 1.) they never made me aware of this reaction 2.) will it continue to get worse? 3.) WHY would it cause this 4.) is reversible?? 5.) Is anyone doing anything about this??
Help.

143unique - luv4unique2002@yahoo.com- I as well have an indentation on my right butt cheek....3 months ago I thought I was having an allergic reaction and my Dr had given me a Kenalog shot...a few months ago I noticed a red splotchy spot and kept watching it and noticed now I have an indentation on my right butt cheek. Had I known this was going to happen I would have never gotten the dang shot. I am on board with lookn into a law suit. I just googled this and what do ya know there are many of us going though the same thing. Something has to be done. I just now made an appointment with my doctor and am printing this out for him to read. Hopefully I can be heard and save the next person from having this same issue.

Ez Uk - Wow I thought I was the only one there's hundreds I have had three steroids injections over the past two years for excema and I have a two inch crater in my right bum cheek I will be going straight to my doctor tomorrow it's painful and goes dead from time to time has anyone noticed theres go over time??? Ez uk
Hollyhalcomb - Hey everyone I have has several kenelog shots for asthma! I do get a dimple or dent every time! The first time I was so worried I went back to the doctor about the dent! He assured me it would go away in about 6 months typically! It took about a year each time . But dimple or dent was a small price to pay to be able to breath! It will go away it just takes awhile! It actually deteriorates the muscle and fat in the area and it takes a while to repair . They do have other options now my doctor now gives me rocephin instead which doesn't cause the dimple or prednisone to take by mouth! Good luck!
Pazar777 - Wow I am shocked to see how many people are on this site! I had 2 steroid epidurals and now I have a dent were the injection was given. Seems like its getting bigger not going away good luck
Madelinehairdesign - Hello,
Have noticed my sllergy symtoms went away for about 3 weeks. Now they are back and I have a dent that is growing in size in the MIDDLE of my right butt cheek. Please help! Madelinehairdesign@gmail.com
Rosie1024 - I received steriod injections (trigger points) at my ortho doctors office in June 2011... Around the first week of September, 3 months later, I noticed a dent in my middle/lower back. So I go to look at it in the mirror and it looks like a burn or scar. About the size of a golf ball.
Then about a month ago, I noticed ANOTHER indintion on my hip/butt. It doesn't look scared like the other one but is also about the size of a golf ball.
I've been to MANY doctors to look at this, some say yes it's no big deal, then others are baffeled by the one on my back, due to the "scar" look
I'm trying to see if I need to take legal action against the doctor that did this. I saw him 2 days after I noticed the one on my back, and he told me it would go away within a month and referred me to another doctor that same day. He knew he screwed up!!!!!
IF ANYONE HAS TAKEN LEGAL ACTION, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT r.fisher1024@gmail.com. Thank you :)
P.S. where is everyone from??? Anyone from OK??
Loddlexcorkie - I am so glad to not be the only one! I have no idea as to why the doctors who have the shot gave me no information about this side effect. I was very clear as to not wanting any bad side effects and this is what I get, a huge dent in my left butt cheek and it's just getting worse ... when I went to ask if there's anythig they can do the doctor simply said .. it should have been back to normal by now and we can always use a filler. Well correct me if I'm wrong but a filler is fat and my muscle is whats gone. I think they should be in a lot of trouble for this especially there lack of caring towards me.
Jamiemetz9 - I as well have had the Kenolog shot in my upper arm (shoulder) Now about two weeks ago i noticed a huge dent in my arm... Went to my doctor and they are currently testing me for Lupus, they did tell me not to worry it was probally from the shot. They also done an MRI and informed me the tissue is dead.. now what does it keep getting bigger?? Will it ever go away? I would like to get in on this lawsuit as well. Let me know jamiemetz9@yahoo.com
Nys88 - I received a shot about 3 weeks ago in my buttocks and just this morning realized there is a big dent there now. It appears there is a little circle where the shot was and all the tissue around it is sunk in. It is not huge yet but this is very scary and I do not know if it will continue to grow.. I am very nervous and will be contacting my doctor this following week. If yall do start a lawsuit or have an idea how we can start one please email me N_Meitzen88@yahoo.com
Thabitahj - Thabitahj- My 6yrs old son got a shot for an swollen lip do to an allergy at the hospital on last December. I have been researching for an answer and finally found all of you here. I'm proud of all you who spoke out of this. My son's dent is as big as a quarter but when he bends over the buttock is all deformed. I'm so scare that he stays like that. he is already asking of what happened there. I'm starting searching at the Hospital for his record. I think the lawsuit should be against the person and not the medication. I just want them to fix my sons' buttock. Thank you for all the information you all posted.

Susans - These horrible dents from kenalog shots do fill in but take a couple of years. I had these craters on both sides of my butt and I was extremely upset and worried. My doctor said they were permanent and so did the nurse. But now about two years later they have actually gone. They just get better one day at a time. I had to be patient. Even though they got better I still would never go near kenalog again and I try to warn everyone about this disgusting side effect. In my opinion kenalog shots should be taken off the market.
Lovemykids3 - I had a kenalog 40mg injection 2 months after back surgery and i had to have a plastic surgeon reconstruct my back. I am contacting an attorney regarding this issue and of course the issue of my doctor messing up big time with my disc replacement and bone fusion. I was never told of these side effects nor when i asked i was told there is none. They need to take this stuff off the market because my indentation was bleeding in the inside and had to go to the er due to i didn't know what was going on. Well had my reconstructive surgery in January of 2012 and now i have a big scar on my lower back. Stay away from these injections they only make things worse!!

Marie1c - "This cannot be a secret!!! So WHY weren't we warned?"
Because the medical industry (that's what it is now, an industry) places profit over everything else; that's why their 'treatments' are becoming increasingly harmful. All kinds of dodgy pharmaceuticals, many not fit for human use, are given the go ahead by the FDA because they're in the pockets of Big Pharma and we see the results of this on just this forum. Do a little research and you'll see how many pharmaceutical drugs are approved every year that have no conclusive benefit outside of mere placebo effect; do you really want to continue placing your trust in this industry?
It's obvious most allopathic doctors these days are only interested in their paycheck, not in the well being of their patients. Sad, but that's the state of things now.
Seek out holistic alternatives wherever possible and DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH before you swallow or let them inject you with anything. Clearly these people shouldn't be trusted when all they do is lie to you and feign ignorance.
Lovemykids3 - I had a 40 mg shot on my right lower back of kenalog and it cause a HUGE indentation to my back which a few months later it started to bleed in the inside. I show the doctor that did the injection and he did not have a diagnose on why I got the injection. I complained to him and he just kept apologizing. Well on January 30, 2012 I had to have reconstructive surgery due to the kenalog 40 mg shot he injected and he also trapped a nerve in my back. Now today I have a BIg scar on my lower back for an unneccesery shot that NOONE informed me of this side effect. Kenalog should be taken off the market and a class action lawsuit should be brought against them. I hired an attorney not only for the kenalog but also because of malpractice that I am going through and went through with this doctor! SO IF A DOCTOR SAYS KENALOG SHOT RUN! Any one have any info on the lawsuit please email and if you have any questions please feel free to email me at chmarcel111798@yahoo.com. Good luck all and any info on the lawsuit please keep me posted! these doctord only care about their MONEY and not the patient!
Stephaniemylius - If there is a lawsuit I would be in on it I too have a large dent from a kenelog shot. stephaniemylius@yahoo.com
Ninabuchanan - I also had the shot and it has become HUGE. I wasn't sure what it was from until I got on here and started reading all your post. I recieved my first steroid shot about a year ago and was told it would help me recover from strep throat quicker and now I have the huge dent in my right butt. Please help if there is a lawsuit. I was never informed of any side effects at all and I am pretty upset like the rest of you. please email me at rbuchananjr@gmail.com
Notrixactionwin - This is truely alarming for me to seeee sp many affected by a simple application of an injection. Unfortunately for us, I think it would be hard to get a clads action law suit because we were all injected by different clusterfux. Pardon. Unless we can find a lawyer to go after each individual hospital or clinic.... I dnt know. Perhaps the best route would be to price the injection for saline to corrrct the issues or pther alternatives if any... Then we can use eachothers testimonies plus proof of having received the injection to judge in small claims? I cant think of top many other options but if anybody hears anything... Pleeeease help.. My boody is not happy with modern medicine theae days. Shoot. We cant afford insurance as it is, youd think that when u scripp&scrape up enuff out of your couch pillows, you would get care... not just better care, but care-Period.
Dharkey - Where are you on the class action lawsuit? I would like to join in. I have a huge dent in my buttock from a kenalog injection that I had in january for hives. It is getting worse. My email is dharkey@tularosa.net
Corticosteroid Abuse - Corticosteroids are without a doubt irresponsibly administered by so many doctors (and nurses) and it's good that there are folks trying to pursue legal action where appropriate. But beware "solicitations" for class action lawsuits that are simply flytraps by the manufacturer to gather a group of people who are willing to accept a small settlement in return for their silence (i.e. confidentiality - you would be required to sign an agreement). I've heard of one case where a solicitation put out by a supposed Kenalog sufferer was actually conducted by Bristol, Myers, Squibb (Kenalog manufacturer) - initially unbeknownst to Kenalog sufferers - and resulted in a group of people being hustled during a meeting with BMS to settle for a small amount in return for their silence. If you have a serious, ongoing medical condition resulting from any drug, settling with the manufacturer for a relatively small amount may not be in your best interest.
PLEASE, everyone who has experienced a serious adverse reaction to corticosteroid injections, file a report with the FDA: [link removed]
Med mal lawsuits are very difficult to bring, and the only way to force responsible administration of these potent drugs is for EVERYONE who has suffered side effects to report to the FDA. You can also call the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 to report by telephone.
Ueflorida - I also had a steroid injection last year. Then a few months ago I started noticing a rectangular indentation in my left upper buttock area. I went and showed the doctor and she told me that it couldn't have been from the injection, but it may be that the "nerve" to that area is dead! Then today I started researching on the web. I thank all the contributors and plan on getting this fixed as it is not getting better and may be getting larger. My email is ursulasbooks@gmail.com if anyone knows of any good treatments that work over the long term as I certainly do not want this to ruin my nice shape. Thank you for sharing
Lisahan61 - I too have a abscess in my upper right buttock where I received a Kenalog injection. I would like more information on this if anyone can help. My email is lisahan61@yahoo.com. Will this continue to get worse? I actually have pain and tenderness in that area too. My shape is not so great.. but I still dont think they have the right to disfigure without .. less alone without any prior warning.

Loveothers - Can anyone confirm that there is a class action going forward? I am interested in joining. Found a large indentation on my left buttock yesterday, 3.5 months post injection. Had a dose of kenalog administered July 3, 2012 to alleviate symptoms resulting from a severe allergic reaction to 1 drop of Polymixin Sulfate (for pinkeye). I typically avoid all medications because I do not trust any drug, and talked to the Dr. at length regarding any potential side effects BEFORE receiving the shot. I'm glad I insisted on a pediatric dose although I am in my 40's. I was told I was getting prednisone, which I had received once before for hives, with no adverse reaction. I called his office yesterday and learned that I had indeed received Kenalog. I am heartbroken to read the details of what many of you are suffering with. Mine is only cosmetic, but had I known of this risk, I would have endured my first issue, ironically caused by a drug as well.
Kenalogvictim44 - Please post Kenalog side effects on the askapatient website so the word gets out about the possibility for severe adverse reactions. google "askapatient." sorry, can't provide full askapatient link here since this site unfortunately does not post them. unlike this site, askapatient is not full of spam.
