Fentanyl Chronic Intractable Pain, Ortho Mcneil, Pain Meds, Med One, Jannsen
I was in an auto accident in May 2004, and have had 2 cervical fusions one in 2004 the other in 2007, Any how I have been on 250mcg. Fentanyl transdremal patch (2-100mcg. patches and 1-50mcg patch) as well as 30mg Morphine IR every 4 hrs for breakthrough since after the 1 surgery in 2004. It helped with the chronic intractable pain that I am left with pretty well until they changed the type of "patches" that were being produced. the type now combines the meds in the adhesive instead of in a reservoir like the old ones.. I find now that instead of coverage for 72 hrs. that by 48 hours I am getting inadequate pain control. I told my Dr. but he says it is tolerance, but if it was I would feel that the WHOLE time... not just after 48hrs. Even though there ARE people who change patches every 48hrs. he say I am already on a VERY HIGH DOES (I read and spoke to people who are on MUCH more) and won't change the dose. We have tried all all other pain meds, and none help as much. Methadone helped A LOT but I got VERY sick from it after the first 2 doses, that we switched to the "Patches"
I have reported this problem (the loss of coverage) to Ortho- McNeil-Jannsen (the makers of my patches but they won't say how many other have called with the SAME problem.
I am HAPPY to have the pain coverage I have, but it makes life a hard because I have to plan around when my meds will be working at FULL coverage (and even then I have about 70% pain coverage,,, even with the Breakthrough Med.) ... more »

One other problem is patch does not stay on well so I use Bioclusive dressing (provided by Johnson & Johnson for Fentynal users who use the Ortho- McNeil-Jannsen.
Also anyone who is having problems paying for this med....their assistance coverage is VERY Helpful!! (Being on SSD there was NO way I could pay for over $1900.00+ per month)
