One night I was having bad sharp pains in my left pelvic area so I went to the hospital with my boyfriend and they said I had a uti and some tearing in my fallopian tubes from the iud mirena and so they did an ultrasound and sent me home with doxycycline hyclate to treat the infection (UTI). Then as soon as I took the first one I felt bone chilling cold and then hot flashes,weakness in every part of my body, anxiety, and sharp pains in my legs, arms, stomach, back, and both sides of my stomach specifically, and sharp pains in my breast, depression, and then I was fixated on suicide and told my boyfriendi felt suicidal. So he looked doxycycline hyclate up and found this,& THank god he did because now I know I'm not alone because of all your posts. Being a 29 year old college student who is motivated and a straight A student, this wasn't like me. So my boyfriend said that's it, you aren't taking this medication no more. Thanks to him i was only on it for five days. Since ive stopped taking it, it took two days before it finally left my system. I have read here that a lot of you have had the same effects and there is a classaction lawsuit on this drug now. I think anyone who has had permanent or serious damages to themselves should do something about this very bad drug. This drug needs to be off the market for sure. Don't ignore these side effects and please report any of this to the FDA. God bless all of you experiencing this and I wish you all well. I'm glad I'm back to myself again! I hope you will too! Addison1952 - I pray you symptoms are subsiding. I have many of which you have had. I have been off not quite 4 weeks. I thought I was getting better the other day, but I am feeling horrible again. From reading a lot of the posts it can take many weeks but I am optimistic that I will feel normal again. This is a wicked drug. Addison1952

Fuse - Fuse - All I know is that this drug ruined my whole last year... I took doxy for 21 days.. And At the end of the cycle, I was suffering from severe anxiety, irregular heart beat, tinnitus, chest pain, grey tongue, vision changes, racing heart, joint pain, muscle twitching, dry mouth and chronic fatigue syndrome. After a few visits to the ER for a month, doctors did not believe me that I was poisoned so i gave up on them. I still did my best to go to my job and do regular things but even that was very tough. Now I am a year out.. I still got a bit of fatigue left... My joint and tendons are still inflamed and hurting. My teeth are stained yellow which i dont know why. The worst is over but I still can't walk long distances and am still waiting to be 100 procent normal. Hope you all the best. Usman
Jen608 - I took this med for 10 days for an infection. Its been a month since I finished the meds, and I still feel awful. I have stomach pains as if I havent eaten in days. I cannot even begin to tell you how bad the anxiey has gotten. I feel like I'm having a heart attack. This is my second time on this med. I knew the side effects from before, but it did work on the infection the first time, so I stupidly agreed to take it again, knowing full well what that consequences were. A month later and I'm still freaking out. This medicine is just plain awful :(

Sad to hear what you going through but I know the feeling. I had racing heart ( 6 times ) during the first three months that really frightened me and thought I would die of a heart attack. Don't worry though cause you should know that your body is robust and will make it through. You just have to keep yourself strong. Btw are you facing any other side effects yet than anxiety and heart palpations?

I posted in August about my experience. Like you Jen, I was on 2 courses. One was for 21 days and the second for a week but twice daily. I took my last pill in July and I am still having problems with insomnia, anxiety, tinnitus, heart palps, muscle twitching, Like you Fuse I had horrible chronic fatigue which I thought would never end. Totally exhausted yet wired. I can say that it does get better, but slowly. I have good days and then everything is haywire again. This too will pass. Be kind to yourselves and just know it takes time. This drug affects the seratonin and gaba receptors which explains these awful symptoms. I will be praying for both of you. Addison
Jen608 - Addison and Fuse: so nice to see your replies! I was on 100mg 2x a day for 10 days. I have never had a medicine affect me like this before. The strongest symptoms I've experienced are anxiety, heart palps, and muscle aches. And i imagine along with all of this came fatigue. Ugh, I'm just so tired of this:( I'm just taking this one day at a time and having faith that this will go away soon. Best wishes to all of us suffering from this:)

Who could ever imagine an antibiotic doing this to people? I know that I will never take this again. When I found this forum, I was shocked to see so many people affected. Again, it takes time and you have only been off a month so you are not that far out. It may take a few more months or it might be gone in a few weeks. Just keep the faith and you get through this.

Fuse - Hi guys, since I know I have nearly recovered from one of the worst reactions out there in terms of severity from doxy. I would be more than glad to help others in my condition.
If you would like, i can post different things that has helped me during my recovery and those things that havnt. It would be good if we all do that so we can help each other in any way possible.

Jen608 - Addison and Fuse: Unfortunately, the anxiety and heart palps were so bad two days ago that I ended up in the ER. All results came back negative. Doxycycline was not considered as a cause. I did go home feeling slightly better after they gave me something for the anxiety. But this morning was just plain awful. I was literally woken up out of a deep sleep from the anxiety. I had a pnic attack in my sleep! The adrenaline rush and heart palps were unreal. I can honestly say I am scared that this will never go away! I would so love to hear what worked for you guys in helping you overcome this problem. I need my life back!
Fuse - I would be glad to help you in any way possible. Only people that have gone through this understand the severity of insanity we have gone through. I can give you lots of tips how to minimize anxiety and heart palp. The truth is that ur heart palp are real but no doctor will admit that doxy did this to you....

Fuse - By the way........ please do not take any medicine.... your body is already trying to figure out the doxy in your body and for your own best do not take it...
It might improve your anxiety but will bother the rest of your body...

Addison1952 - Also, like fuse said, the doctors are so ignorant of these things. They don't bother to research the side effects and post effects of these drugs. Believe me, I have had to deal with them on this issue. I have been through it and I am an RN who saw it firsthand with patients. Just know that this too will pass and going to the ER will do you more harm than good.
Fuse - Just a few tips I can post here. It took me lots of research to come up with these. I did not take any supplements but instead relied on natural super foods to help me.
First, take Epsom salt bath 3 times a week. If you do that you should get enough magnesium in your body for the whole week. Also this helps you open your skin pores sweat and release toxins in your body. It is a detox method.

Hn19 - Hi, I took deoxycycline Hycate for my acne. I was prescribed it last year and stopped taking it abruptly and then started again about a week and a half ago. I was also prescribed ciproflaxin for something else and began taking both at once. Both of these I started after my last period had began. I'm now 2 days late (my periods are usually 32 days apart and it's been 34 days) I'm usually very regular an I'm not sexually active. (I've never had sex). Has anyone seen this effect in deoxcycline Hycate? I know anti biotics in general can delay a period, as well as stress. I've been getting mixed messages about dyoxycycline and the menstrual cycle online though, I'm a little worried and wondered if anyone had ever had the same issue with either one of these drugs. Thoughts?

Jen608 - I know that stress can definitely affect your cycle. I can't say this medicine in partlcular did for me, since I have always been pretty regular. But i wouldn't doubt it, considering all of the other side effects associated with this med! Good luck to you!

Fuse - Jen glad to hear you are doing better. How many months are you out?
I am 1 year out. I still have fatigue from time to time. Heart pal and anxiety once a month. Relapse is once a month basically. Joint cracking and pain occurs from time to time. Muscle twitching occurs sometime.
Daniellemarie83 - I have been reading everyones latest posts & I hope that everyone who is still going thru this has atleast stopped taking it & reported to their doctor & had gotten another medication. I myself did & my doc gave me cipro which I've taken many times and it works well! I'm going into the medical field & heart palpitations are very serious and can lead to a-fib (dysrrythmia) which means you can have life long irregular heartbeats that are very dangerous. All of the other symptoms are very serious as well of course and I went thru all of them but I also only took it for four days & now I am fine but it took about a week for the symptoms to subside although I still get severe anxiety attacks here n there and heart palps. If you are having these symptoms please discontinue them asap and contact your doctor to get another medication because the longer u take it, the longer you'll have these symptoms after you stop taking it. No medicine is worth taking if its causing more symptoms than what u originally started taking it for. I get a ton of emails everyday with more& more people posting negative side effects
Nicolel2012 - I am so so so happy I found this thread - I have been on doxy for 7 days and my anxiety is through the roof, I am achy and soooo tired. Nothing I was doing to relax etc. was helping. I thought I was growing crazy. I am going to stop today and see my doctor. I am skeptical he will think it was the doxy and would just assume it is 'nerves'.
Hope everyone is doing better. I can't wait until I see a light at the end of tunnel with this nightmare.

I am one week off the doxy and SLOWLY getting better. Still have anxiety but not as severe - I can eat now! Still have the sweats, tension headache and tired. I have been taking a probiotic and vitamins.. Let me know your symptoms and how you are feeling? We can go through this together!!!

Sabian - Nicolel2012- I feel disconnected from reality- like I'm in a dream-like state. It only started after the last dose I took and I haven't taken anything since. Tomorrow will be day 4 off the doxy and I hope that means I'm getting closer to having it out of my system. The dream-like feeling seems to be what's causing my panic and anxiety- I really just want it to go away so I can go back to school- keep me updated! Hopefully this will be over soon.
Sabian - Nicolel2012- Thanks so much for your response- I was doing much better, until I had another panic attack on day 6...day 7 I'm starting to feel better, still 'out of it' though...Your response is keeping me positive!
Nicolel2012 - Yes, I feel out of it a bit still but feeling SO MUCH better. You will too. I found out that antibiotics can stay in your body for 2 weeks! (Depending on your metabolism etc). So I predict by day 14, you and I will be totally better. Rest up, drink lots of water, take probiotic...this too shall pass!

That was really not like me to get that insanely mad. My mood just completely changed from glad to sad within about 4-5 hours of taking this medication. This drug is no joke when it comes to mood altering, I just am so glad to have found this information before I stupidly continued to take this drug. I have always been a firm believer that prescription drugs are terrible, and this just confirms it even more. Can everyone just post how many milligrams of doxycycline they took. I just want to know so I have a reference point to compare to.
I myself took doxy for 21 days (In total 2200mg), basically 100 per day. Does any of u guys also have a grey tongue?
