Warts and Compound W Plus

My son is 14 and has several warts on his toes, some rather large, I have been using the lotion for 5 days and it has gone hard and white on the warts, on the surrounding skin if I have put a little too much on, the skin has peeled off, yet the warts are still solid, will these eventually peel off or do I sand them down occasionally or just continue as I am?
