Sorry for the double post, but my other one was a reply and I wasn't sure it would show up. I also added some more important information in this post:
I have chronic fatigue, am on my 6th doctor. Nobody has been able to help. All my blood tests (for everything under the sun) are totally normal. I'm not depressed, bi-polar,etc. I have always been happy, healthy, a go-getter type-A personality. I own my own business and do well at it. Except about 6 years ago my symptoms started showing up. Over that time, they have gotten worse and more symptoms appear. They have become debilitating. I am SOOO tired all the time and no amount of sleep helps. Some of my symptoms include: Extreme physical exhaustian that NO amount of sleep can cure along with muscle weakness/ cramping if I force myself to use them when I'm have one of these 'spells' mental 'fog', fuzzy minded, can't focus, hair falling out, Irritible bowel syndrome ( days 15-7 of my cycle- 2-3 weeks) , some arthritis, hyper senstitivity to the cold, nightmares, night sweats, panic attacks ( only at night during days 23-30 of my cycle) insomnia, mood swings, anxiety ( rare), hair falling out, acne ( after my period is over I have a bad breakout, but still have more than I should the rest of the time) By far my most debilitating symptoms is the extreme physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. It has taken over my whole life.
I had gained weight and a couple years ago got a Dr. to prescribe Phentermine for weight loss. I discovered it helped SO MUCH with my fatigue! IT IS AWESOME!!! It is my magic mood lifter energy pill. However, it is 'recommended' that doctors not prescribe it for more than 12 weeks out of the year. So for 12 weeks, I had a life again, and then, no more. I had to sleep away another year before I could get more. She would only give me 1 month because I was at a good weight. I was so desperate that I flew down to Dallas, TX from Oregon to see a Dr. there ( Dr. Branch) that will prescribe phentermine on a monthly basis. None of the Dr's here will because they will all tell you it is addicting. This is a LIE! I know 5 people that have been on and off, including myself. I can take it for two months and stop cold turkey. Not so much as an eye twitch. No craving for it, no 'withdrawl' symptoms whatsoever... except ALL my horrible "normal" symtoms come back. My new doctor thinks I have PMDD and/or an autoimmune disorder ( PMDD is severe PMS~but I think I have adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism caused by the adrenal fatigue... all related to my hormone symtoms). I'm 37 and all these symptoms started at 31. I can set a clock by my period. I know on day 23 for example that I am going to be totally incapacitated. On day 30, I always start my period. I have never had a miscarriage and have 3 healthy kids. So it's not a problem with my reproductive parts, but something has gone haywire. Anyway, the only thing that works to give me energy and a some hope that I will be able to accomplish anything during the day is phentermine. No Dr. will ever prescribe it for Chronic Fatigue, so you will probably have to go to Dr. Branch in Texas, but it is SOOO worth it! It is so amazing to me that Dr's will prescribe all sorts of addicting pills with horrible side effects without a thought, but the one that I know from experience works( as does everyone I know that takes it!) the doctors won't prescribe because they have been 'taught' in medical school that it is 'addicting'. We all know what BS most of the information that doctors give about prescriptions is! During the week before my period I have nightmares, night sweats and panic attacks. When I take the phentermine THEY STOP! Literally, if I take a phentermine one morning, I will not have any symptoms that night. Skip the next day, and that night, they are back, like clockwork. I could write on the calendar on days 23-30 of my period for the next 50 years " Will have a night sweat and panic attack". Phentermine takes those away, but mostly it gets rid of my fatigue. It has been a total life saver for me. When I wake up and know it's going to be a really horrible day, I roll over and grab a phentermine off my nightstand and and hour later, I feel great and I'm excited for my day! It's one of those things where a pill that is prescribed for one thing works amazing for something else and no Doctor will listen.
Just FYI: My new doctor has had me try prozac, ( against my better judgement, but I figured it was worth a try). It made my bad symptoms worse and I felt like someone had punched me in the stomache constantly. I was more tired and had worse insomnia at night. I tried taking it at different times of the day, but after 2 weeks of being beat up by it, I figured I had done my due diligence :) I also tried birth control pills and while they did help to lift my mood a little, are not helping with any of my truly debilitating symptoms. And they burned my stomache so bad... I had a little nausea, then I felt like acid was eating away my stomache and intestines for 4 days straight. That was all I could take. I had been on birth control about 15 years ago for 6 years and never so much as sneezed. They worked great with no side effects back then, but not now.
You should know that you cannot take phentermine if you have high blood pressure. It is the other half of the 'phen-fen' that worked so well for weight loss and was banned several years back. The 'fen' part was the banned half. The phentermine is not banned.
