AMBIEN SIDE EFFECT

HAVING TROUBLE WITH DRYNESS OF THE NASAL PASSAGES AND THROAT IS THIS A SIDE EFFECT?
Barry41 - I have taken Ambien for 15 years and my med plan switched me to Zolpidem when it became generic. Three years ago I became ill with a severe sore throat, nasal congestion, mucous and swallowing troubles. It left me with thick mucus I could not clear, hoarseness and rhinitis. I tested negative for GERD. Every time I stop using Zolpedim I improve. When I take it the symptoms return in a few days. I reduced from 10 mg to 5 mg and even cut a 5 in half. Now I am determined to stay off them except for a crises. I went to an ENT and tried Nasonex, Singulair, Mucinex, and they did little. Patanase spray was effective. My theory is an allergic reaction due to age and perhaps severe nasal dryness from a one week high altitude ski trip. I am 69 and in excellent health otherwise. Every doctor should tell a patient to stop Ambien/Zolpidem before treating rhinitsi and ENT problems.
