I had a root canal 30 years ago that recently got an abscess. I had re-treatment from a specialist who does root canal treatments.... For several months it had been going through a cycle of being fine, then it would hurt, swell, bleed and then be fine again.
X-ray showed the infection had gotten smaller but not enough. The doctor recommends extraction.
I decided to go off my corticosteroid inhaler because it does say in the instructions that it could prevent wound healing.
So now I've been off it for a month and the tooth and gum have changed : no pain, no swelling, no bleeding. But also the infection is still there, as I can smell and taste, if I press on the gum.
I think the fact that it has Changed means that the corticosteroid inhaler was affecting it. So I have requested more antibiotics to see if the infection will go away or get better. Doc is not there, still wants extraction. I say why not try the antibiotics?
I can't afford an implant or bridge, so if I extract this tooth, I will be left with a hole...
