Adderall XR Lack of Appetite, Gastrointestinal Tract, Dextroamphetamine, Dextro, T Effect
I was on Adderall XR for a good chunk of last year, to help with my ADD and fight the onset tiredness brought about from my antipsychotic Risperidone. The come-down can be rough, but not nearly as rough as Ritalin. I find that it works better than the regular Instant-Release Adderall, as the IR cops out too quick on me.
Skipping a day will leave you going through a withdraw - especially if you've been on it for awhile, the longer the worse. This is because of how your mind adapts to the medicine. Imagine you drank an energy drink every morning for three months, then didn't one morning - chances are, you'll be drained/etc. Same principle. If you're quitting, it'll take a few weeks to return fully back to normal.
Someone mentioned the Adderall getting replaced, its called Vyvanse. Reason why is how the dextro- is combined with a protein l-lys (something or other) - this way, if the pill is crushed and snorted or injected it will have NO effect. The combined prodrug has to reach your gastrointestinal tract, where it will be separated into two pieces (the protein doesn't effect how the dextro- works, it is pretty much useless once it has been separated), then the dextro- starts working.
I don't remember what the whole name of the "dextro-" is, think it's something like "dextroamphetamine salt", but even that's too long to keep writing over and over.
If I remember right, the Adderall is actually a mix of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, whereas the new Vyvanse is just dextroamphetamine. I think dextro- is 4x stronger than regular amphetamine.
Also, too much of amphetamine is known to cause "amphetamine psychosis", much like schizophrenia, however only temporary - just like the mother on here saying about her little boy and the voices. If you run into this problem with voices and can't get out, just do your best to realize its your subconscious imagination - they're there and ignoring them sometimes helps them go away for awhile, take it from a true Schizophrenic; at least its not permanent like mine. I know, sometimes they WON'T go away, and sometimes you'll have other issues related to Schizophrenia, just stop taking that dosage and hope time flies quickly till the medicine wears out. Medicines such as Risperidone are used to fight this, especially if you need a higher dose and you run into this problem.
Schizophrenia is thought to have to do with a certain amount of activity with the dopeamine(sp?) in your brain, and amphetamines just raise that activity substantially. Risperidone works by inhibiting this activity, thus relieving the symptoms - to an extent, at least.
