Dry Cough and Accutane
Posted over a year ago
My daughter has been on Accutane for two months now - she has a persistent dry cough. Chest X-ray negative, she did a round of antibiotics, no change. Pulmonary doc put her on Advair and Singular - no change. Her lung function is normal. Has anyone else had this cough with Accutane?
Wgl - Yes, I am 25 white male, a smoker, on 60mg accutane a day (I weigh around 83kg). I developed a cough weeks after beginning accutane. I think it is because my mucous development has been affected in my lungs and throat. I hate it, and it may cause me to quit the course, or reduce the dose myself without doctors advice. Doctor says I am fine and stick with it. Blood results almost normal. High cholesterol has been caused by the drug though. As far as the acne goes, I have mild to medium severity cystic acne which could not respond to any antibiotics or topical treatments. Retin-A helped, but can not do the job. I foolishly did not try Differin before starting oral accutane. Differin is topical accutane. The accutane has helped my skin enormously, more so than anything I have ever tried. I am amazed with the results. They have exceeded my expectations. I feel sick as a dog though. This stuff is dreadfully harsh on the body. After all, it is a chemo drug.
Wgl - I should add, accutane resulted in huge weight loss for me. I was 83kg when I started, now I am more like 78 kg. I believe this drug is potentially extremely dangerous.
