I thought that Yaz would ba a good option for me, since the the doc explained that Yaz has and equal amount of hormones in each pill, which can help with relieveing symptoms of pms ie mood swings, acne, etc... After being on it for over a week I went in for a well woman exam and everything was fine..that was October 10. Then this past Sunday Nov 4 I thought I was experiencing a yeast infection but when my at home treatment of plain yogurt and no sugar diet wasn't working like normal. I got an appointment for a exam. It turns out I had a severe bacterial infection and lumps on the vaginal wall. They weren't sure if it was hpv or related to the bacterial vaginosis! Well if I didn't have those lumps at my last exam and I haven't been with anyone besides my fiance (who I don't think cheated) how could I have contracted hpv? They have me on some major antibiotic and I'm going back on Nov 26, well please pray for me because I don't know what I would do if this was related to Yaz or my fiance. But I have experienced serious nausea, no appetite, headaches, massive pimple (way worse then the ones I ever had before beginning Yaz), serious mood swings, depression (I had to withdraw from my classes this semester since I could no longer concentrate on any homework much less attend class) I just discovered this site today, and I'm going to quit taking Yaz today! Please if anyone believes me, pray that I can experience a healing miracle. I am also going to pray for the other ladies experiencing these horrible side effects! If anyone wants to talk and needs supportive encouragement, please don't hesitate to send me an email. Sisters unite and don't be afraid to stand up and let your voice be heard that we will not accept medication that does this to us!

I am 49 and my bad acne started to return and I started getting a receeding hairline. My OB put me on Yaz. The hair has continued to reced at an alarming rate - so it did not help with that. I still am breaking out alot, but I have since discovered a device called the ZitZapper which works really well (I wish it had been invented 30 years ago when I was at my worst). My skin has dried out alot which I really like. It's still oily in comparison to other peoples, but at least my eyeliner is not melting in 4 hours like it used to. I have no experienced any of the moodiness others complain of.
But I have gotten a yeast infection every other month and I am very dry. And my sex drive has never been lower. In fact, I have no sensation in the exterior tissues; I cannot acheive an orgasm, which I have never had problems with at all. The drospirenone in Yaz is derived from a "water pill" that gives men erectile disfunction, so the lowered libido is not a surprise.
I have lost weight (about 5 lbs); the pill makes your appetite diminish, especially if you drink alot of water. My breasts seem fuller but are not sore. In general I like the effect it has has on my body.
The first week of every month, I feel very tired but this only lasts the first week.
The package insert fot YAZ is clear that you should get tested for Potassium levels your first month. Your kidneys cannot process the minerals and be trying to clear other substances. The itching all over that I was feeling and others complain of - this is limited kidney function. A blood test will confirm this. The first month I was on Yaz I could not eat any high potassium foods without feeling sick. I ate a can of tuna and was sick for 2 days. I had a weird metallic taste in my mouth for the first 6 weeks. I can pretty much eat anything now without feeling sick.
I take fish oil daily to thin the blood to try to stave off clots.
I am going to try something else though to try to stop the hair loss.

I was on Yasmin for about 4 years. Actually for the most part, I didn't really have many side effects; which I guess is good. I feel so badly for all that I have read here. BUT what started happening about 1 year ago was that I started getting an INSANE amount of yeast infections. I had only had one yeast infection prior to this, that was in college (9 years ago) and then all of a sudden I start getting multiple yeast infections. I swear it was like my GYN and me were having a relationship. I seriously had min of 12 in a year. In August I had two back to back. FINALLY I said to my GYN "could this be due to the pill?" He looked back at my chart and realized how many I had acutally gotten over the past year and decided to change my pill. I wish I had seen this website earlier... It would have saved me a lot of problems and a lot of money (on GYN appts and medicine). Please keep an eye out for this side effect. I never in a million years thought it could have been the pill. I mean, I tried everything, even threw away all my "nice" undies for white cotton... how yucky! Anyway, I haven't had a yeast infection in almost three months since being off it. The GYN switched me to Loestrin 24- although I don't have the yeast infections I have an TUN of other side effects from this one! Gained 7 pounds in 2 1/2 months... so don't take that either. Look for the other website on Loestrin 24! Good luck to you all.

I was on Yasmin for 3 years, at first I thought it was a perfect fit for me - I had shorter, less painful periods. Over the course of the next 2 years I had CHRONIC Urinary tract infections and yeast infections. I mean like 10 a YEAR. My gyno didn't know what was wrong (I'm meticulous about cranberry juice, cleaning, etc) and prescribed me a antibiotic. I had to take one pill after intercourse. Well, apparently 1 was enough to throw off the balance and I'd end up with a yeast infection.
In addition to all that I TOTALLY lost my sex drive. I've been off the pill now for 4 months and I'm still waiting for it to return.
I wouldn't reccomend this pill to anyone.

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

Yasmin gave me IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrom for those of you who don't know.) I was on the pill for eight months. My pre-symptoms were I had 5 yeast infections in a row, in the second and third months of taking it...this didn't ring any bells, even though I had never had a yeast infection before in my life, and my doctor just said I had a yeast imbalance. So a month after those stopped the IBS started. I was in the bathroom about 8 times a day, I thought maybe it was a flu, so i didn't go to the doc right away. I eventually gave up on that thought and went to see my doc, who even he, thought that it was IBS, so he sent me to a specialist right away. I had a colonoscopy and nothing, so the specialist told me that I needed to stop searching and just accept that I had IBS (I told him that I had been trying to figure it all out, because you literally don't wake up one day, go to the bathroom and your life changes forever, I KNEW something else was going on.) Anyways, I had a dumb specialist, he said that I had to accept this, I asked if it could possibly be my birth control and he said no and prescribed my a whole bunch of other drugs. Well I still just couldn't believe my life just all of a sudden changed, so I went to my family doc, lied, told him i was getting moody off Yasmin, and he switched me onto another. IT WORKED no more IBS, the results were immediate, it took a while for my poor damaged bowls to fix themselves, a few months actually, but now things are getting back to normal. Oh, and I've stopped birth control pills, back to condoms for me...my doc put me on Alesse, which didn't work either - moody! and then he put me on Marvelon, which inflamed my gallbladder (had to go for an ultrasound to see if i had gallstones) I figured at this rate, in two years i'd be dead from taking b/c so I was done, I would recommend the same to anyone!!

I have been on Yasmin a little over 2 years now. I have been on other BCP, such as Tri-cycline, Alesse, Diane 35. Yasmin was great in the beginning, no major side affects, except for the breast tenderness. This past year, the breast tenderness has increased and I cannot even touch my breasts. They are larger and very sensitive. I am very moodie, very emotional. Every month now, for the past 4-5 months, I have been having yeast infections. I went to see my gyno and did tests and nothing is wrong. He has no idea why the yeast infection is reoccuring. I've done some research and read other postings and some other women have had the same issue. It's very frustrating and I cannot take having yeast infections every month. I take Yasmin to help with my cramps, and primarily the endometriosis. I have had surgery (5years ago) to remove endometriosis and my gyno mentioned to say on the BCP to decrease the spreading of endometriosis. Although, Yasmin has been a pretty good BCP, I just can't take the breast tenderness and most of all the yeast infections every month. I will be going off Yasmin next month.

Should I take Yasmin??
I have had a yeast infection for four straight years! THe doctor put me on yasmin yesterday after being on ortho-tri-cyclen LO for 7 years!! Now I am worried with all these side effects. I am getting married in 2 months and I don't want to be on my period at my wedding because of the bloating and my dress not fitting. But I am worried about my periods getting messed up while being off the pill but I am also worried about having a stroke or all the others that everyone has mentioned! What do you think?????

It was nice to find this website, finally figuring out a reason why I get my yeast infections, headaches, naseau, pain on my left breast bone, fatigue, mood swings, etc... I always thought it was just me, but I'm now thinking that maybe it's not. I've had recurrent yeast infections ever since being on Yasmin (I've been on it for over 4 years) and my MD has never mentioned it could be the pill. I finally started seeing a connection between the two when I started tracking what happens to me when I miss taking the pill (ALWAYS a yeast infection). And it got me to thinking that maybe there are other women out there who suffer from the same thing. Also, at some points I actually thought I had serious mental/health problems b/c of my consistent headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. I used to be really active up until I was 19 when I started on Yasmin, and it went downhill from there. I guess I just thought that this was just my normal grown up self (I know sounds kinda lame). And I've totally experienced the lack of sex drive, it seems I'm only interested the week before I get my period or when I'm on it.

I am taking Yaz on my first pack I havent been able to tolerate ANY bcp's they all gave me stomach cramping diarrehea and mood swings. I havent taken a bcp in over 2 years for this reason. I have PMDD and it s pretty severe. I am taking this in hope that it will tame my mood swings. I'm coming to the ending of my second week of this pill on Sunday and after reading all these forums I am terrified to take another pill. I have these symptoms...
_ Crying over eveything
_ Bloated weight gain
_ Tired No energy
_ Yeast infection
Please if you are taking Yaz and stopped what can I expect?Should I wait till I get my period and then stop?

Oh my gosh Yasmin is not for me for sure.
I started taking it about 3 weeks ago and thought at first I felt crappy for other reasons. I can't sleep through the night, have headaches, cramps, back pain, and feel as though I am getting a yeast infection! wow how bad is that.
I think I will go back to Seasonique.
I was using Yasmin to help with PCOS but it's just not worth feeling this bad :(

Kim-
Birth control pills cause an overgrowth of Yeast in the body. Sounds like you have a Yeast infection. Pick up a book on yeast and its side effects-an overgrowth has a whole host of side effects. You may need to find a good yeast cleanse. They won't harm you so it would be worth exploring.

Guest 39074,
Your experience very common to many other women's here and in other forums. It took me 1.5 years to add up everything I was experiencing as well as to develop an arrythmia, chest pain and heart murmur.
I got my period within 28 days of going off of Yasmin but it is different for each woman based upon her own hormones and body.
Don't worry about the increase in discharge. That is most likely the shedding of your uterus. I had the same thing when I came off the hormones. Assume that you do not have any discomfort otherwise to ensure you do not have a Yeast infection. Those are common with hormone changes.
See the "forums" section here as well. AT the top of this page, a link to them. There is a really informative site that has been created for many women survivors of Yasmin. I think the url is there so you can copy/paste it into your browser.
Best of wishes to you,
Jasmine

I ve been using Yasmin for the past month and a half, mainly for acne, but also as a means of birth control. The first two weeks, i didnt really have any side effects. It seems to have improved my acne, but then again, it could be my imagination, and quite frankly, nothing really works. Anyways, a couple days before the 1st pack ran out, i began having extremely painful irritations of my female organ, something like a uti/yeast infection. i dismissed it. but bought monostat. after beginning pack 2, i noticed nighttime feelings of dryness/irritation. painful. yesterday, intercourse with my boyfriend was unbearable. for the past month, it has been this way and i am scared of intercourse. i feel like getting off yasmin, but it kind of has improved my skin, however this is not not not right. is anyone else this way?

i find it incredible the yasmin and yaz are both marketed for the treatment of pms and pmdd. it gave me most of the symptoms and more that it states it can help! i wonder how they came to the conclusion it cure many pms symptoms???? i had no problems at all before i went onto yasmin,i had never suffered anxiety or depression before. i am really quite concerned that this is being prescribed to women who are already in quite a bad hormonal situation, this drug can make it sooo much worse!

hi
i am 19 years old and have been on Yasmin for almost 2 years. at first it was great decreased my pms symptoms. Just recently my period flow has picked up I get cramps again and have had a yeast infection back to back with a UTI and now i think a bacterial infection. I also have noticed a dramastic change in mood swings. I will cry for no reason, feel unhappy for no reason, and just be angry for no reason. I am an emotional person, but I usually can control myself. I find myself getting mad at my boyfriend and friends for no reason, and i cant control the mood swings. has this happend to anyone? and why has it taken so long? I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problems. thanks!

Hello All,
I am now on day 10 off Yasmin. Yesterday, I had the most emotional day since getting off the Yasmin. I had all these PMS symptoms...my breasts ached terribly! I still have insomnia. And I was a crying mess yesterday.
I went to my gyno yesterday as well and she said I was the first woman to come to her with these "complaints" about Yasmin. I felt so stupid...especially since I had seen her just two months earlier thinking I had a yeast infection. (Infact, it was simply the extreme dryness from the Yasmin.) I simply never thought the stuff going on with me (hair falling out, insomnia, zero sex drive..) had anything to do with my gynecological health...so didn't mention it. I just thought it was "me". So bizarre how this all works out.
Luckily, my boyfriend is being very supportive and realizes this is my detox period. I'll have good days and bad days. :(
Has anyone else suffered from this insomnia? And when does it stop?? I can honestly say, I can only remember 2 specific nights in the last 5 or so months that I had a solid nights sleep. :(
P.S. I am looking into getting the Copper IUD. I got a lot of information about it..I just need to check and see if my insurance company will cover it. IF they do not cover the IUD, I will have to pay for it out of pocket. It'll be around $750 total to get it inserted. While it's a lot of money upfront, the IUD is good for 10 years. So it will pay for itself in less than 2 years...seeing as my health insurance doesn't pay much for my BC. I was paying $40 a month anyway. ugh. The injustice. :(

I came across this site last week after finally getting fed up with vaginal dryness/painful intercourse that my obgyn couldn't explain. (She put me on yeast infection medicine..but obviously, that wasn't the problem.) It hit me all at once that my weird, very uncharacteristic crying spells (ex. unable to complete sentences without feeling like tears are welling up)....to extreme anger and a flared temper....to a recent fainting/diarrhea spell...to overnight changing my feelings completely on having children, to hating my job!! (I mean really...my feelings are ALL over the place.)I've never been one to blame things on others or for this matter, a pill. But I realized that a lot of my strange personality changes may really be attributed to the Yasmin. I have had insomnia for the last 4 months...which I've also never ever experienced before. In general, I've become a worrier and feel all around numb and no love for myself or my boyfriend. And for no reason. It's putting a real damper on our relationship actually. I told him about this site and explained what I've been dealing with...silently for the most part because I thought it was just me. So I guess we'll have to wait it out....I started taking Yasmin in November 2005...and now in retrospect...can start adding up small changes to my personality starting back in Feb. 2006. My last pill was this Friday. I'm day 6 off Yasmin and have my period this week. I am not going to go back on the Yasmin this weekend. (after my period ends) I'm afraid to go on any hormonal birth control because of the way this affected me so badly. In a way, I feel like I may have never been "myself" around my boyfriend. We started dating in Dec. 2005, and I had started it a month before. Does this make sense? I had been on OrthoTryCyclen a long time ago....and remember when I moved to England...I got off of it and felt as though my feelings in general went from black and white to colorful and vibrant. I think I'm going to explore non hormonal options from here on in. I've done some research on IUD's. In particular, the copper IUD.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble ladies. My point is to say thank you for speaking up. I come and look at this site everyday to just remind myself that I'm not alone. And that I can look forward to feeling myself again one day. And mostly, that feelings of butterflies and happiness will come back to my relationship with my boyfriend. Who is simply wonderful. Just a fantastic guy.
Keep those chins up ladies!
Vicki

I started taking Yasmin 11 months ago for PCOS. In addition to the Yasmin, I am taking spirolactine and metformin. I have all of the symptoms above....the depression, the anxiety, the unexplained insomnia, the lack of sex drive (I had a major sex drive before Yasmin...it's at ZERO at this point.) and extreme vaginal dryness/painful intercourse. At first I thought I had a yeast infection...and that's what my doctor chalked it up to. And finally I sat down with my boyfriend to find out if Yasmin was the cause of the vaginal dryness....because we checked out the other two drugs I'm taking...and low and behold I found ALL these horrible blogs referring to Yasmin and it's side effects. My question to all of you though...is whether you immediately switched to another birth control pill? And if so...what do you guys recommend? I used Ortho TriCyclen for a long time and don't remember any terrible side effects like this.
Thanks.

Yes, the Clonazepam stops the panic, but it is NOT good for the general anxiety...it basically just knocks me out (very tired, weak, sick feeling). I am now hiking with my dog every day to burn it off by suggestion of my doctor. As I start walking I feel so weak sometimes I am afraid I will not make it back to the house, HOWEVER as I continue to walk the feeling eventually goes away (I carry my cell phone for security..although I really know I will not need to use it)! The more I walk, the better I feel! I have also found that no matter how deathly sick I feel, if I can just GET OUT OF BED, the feelings eventually go away throughout the day. I avoid all negative influences (movies, news, negative people) and spend a lot of time at church working on building my faith...it has helped me survive all this.
I am now on day 9 of my cycle and my recent "spell" seems to be over. I am 28 years old and this was my first experience with BCP. I never had ANY health problems before. Good news is, my test results have all come back.... my pap smear, blood work, and urine work all came back NORMAL. (I had a year of abnormal pap tests also. I had a yeast infection about every week!) It took a YEAR to get everything to come back clear again. I am not taking any medication regularly at this time.
The Vitamin B Complex does make me a little jumpy, but I have found I can work it off through some kind of cardiovascular exercise. In general I am feeling MUCH better. Just start out slowly every day, eat healthy food (no caffeine/alcohol, I carry apples, celery, and peanut butter with me everywhere), and KEEP MOVING. I also have some Valerian capsules and tea. "Celestial Seasonings" makes a tea called "Sleepytime" which has Valerian in it....seems to work pretty well.
All in all, my faith, my fellow women on this site, and a supportive husband has helped me through this disaster. It will only make you stronger in the end. God bless Medications.com for having this site! I feel it saved my life. I am praying for all of you...HANG IN THERE.

I got married in May and started taking Yasmin just before and it has been HELL ever since! It has cost my husband and I money and quite a bit of unnecessary turmoil!
Currently, I'm still on Yasmin and after reading all this am I definitely getting off of it! Everything that I have read is TOO faniliar! My agony includes:
-Insomnia (I was up until 3am last night)
-lathargic all day (very unmotivated and sleepy)
-a VERY low sex drive (my husband just LOVES this one)
-high irritability & mood swings
-frequent dizziness & light headedness
-had my 1st migraine ever (thank GOD I've only had 1)
-mild depression-want to cry all the time (& do) for no reason
-breasts are hard with knots (he loves that too)
-i pee all the time
-back pain in the morning (After sleeping in our guest room for a month, we have actually started shopping around for a new mattress-didn't even cross my mind that it may be the pill)
I'm on my 7th pack and can't wait to get to my doc to switch to something better. Anyway, my question is...for all of you who have already switched...what did you switgh to? Are your side effects less? (Off the pill, my periods are normal, short, and for the most part cramp free (Don't hate me!) My husband and I just want to enjoy being married a little longer before having any little ones!) Any suggestions?

this is an odd one and maybe it's nothing to do with the yasmin, could just be my hormones getting back to normal! i have been off yasmin for 3 months now and about a week before my period is due i get extreme genital itching,i thought it was a yeast infection but it went away when my period began and then i got it again this month,it is really itchy and my vagina becomes very swollen.....charming subject i know! has any-one else experienced this? does it go away on it's own or should i see my doctor?

I had read so many of these pages and related with only a few items until Neida88. I have frequent yeast infections and have started taking bacterial supplements to help stop them. My doctor didn't think the yeast infections were related to the Yasmin, but all my STD tests came back negative, so they are not an effect of lowered immunity. I am mid-pack, but I am going to stop, because I just can't take it anymore. It cleared my skin, but I think I can find some other way to maintain clear skin than Yasmin. It is pretty uncomfortable to spend a week out of every cycle feeling like I'm on the verge of a yeast infection or suffering from one. After two years on Yasmin, I'm done!

oh thank Goddess!
i have been reading through all of your comments and finally i know what has been going on with me these last few months. i am on my third month of taking yasmin, and in this time i am told that my personality has taken a complete about-face. i have become extremely mean, irritable, uncontrollable crying and rage, sensitivity to absolutely everything. i got on the pill to help with my period as i tend to have crazy PMS that begins a week before my period starts. but since i began yasmin, i feel sick to my stomach every day that i am on it. the nausea is horrible and in fact worse than my PMS from before.
i have been getting these splitting headaches that only began when i started yasmin, as well as horrible ENT problems that have taken me back and forth to doctors since i began the pill. although i didn't make the connection until now. in fact, my sore throat and sinus infection caused the chrystals in my middle ear to come loose and have been contributing to the dizziness, vertigo and constant nausea these last months. on top of all that, i have been having this horrible itching in my groin area that normally i would equate to a yeast infection, save for the fact that i have no mucus to speak of! another woman reported this very same thing!
something i did not read about is a recurrance of vaginismus (a disorder where one's PC muscles involuntarily contract at the first sign of vaginal penetration) since i have been on this pill. i used to have primary vaginismus after several traumas but have been over that for years. just a month after beginning the pill, sex with my husband has been extremely painful to the point we have not been able to do it at all. at first i thought it was because of a vaginal infection, i am prone to candidiasis, but i have no other symptoms than the pain and the external itching which both seem to have come from nowhere and are not related to a bacterial infection.
wow. i thought i was going crazy and i think my husband was being driven crazy by my erratic behaviour in turn. as i was reading through the comments so much of what has been said is exactly what i am going through! i feel so much better just knowing what has been going on and what i have to do to stop it.
thank you so much for this site! really, thank you so much. i am going to discontinue use at once and just deal with the things my body throws me in a natural way.
good luck to you all in the healing process. i will be thinking of you.
all the best,

I have been on Yasmin for 4 years and it seemed to work well for the first two or three years. Lately however, the past year, I have had the common vision change issues, as well as the extreme and instant anger out of nowhere. I have never experienced anything like this. The anger is so intense I feel like my blood is literally boiling. I get extreme headaches for about two days as a time, not like a migraine. It's behind my eyes, all of my head is under pressure and my neck kills me. I was reading in the "booklet" that comes with the medication about a side effect being "itching". What kind of itching? Does anyone know? I have been having extreme itching in my groin area. Not like a yeast infection, rather the skin right in the joint of my leg and groin area. I have also developed a hard lump under my skin in the same area. At first I thought it might be an ingrown hair, but that has healed. The lump is about the size of a small pea. Should I worry?

I didn't know that taking a simple BC pill could cause all of these problems and symptoms. I recently started taking Yasmin again after being off of it for a year, and now I am just realizing the changes it makes in my personality and lifestyle. Why didn't my doctor catch this when I was having problems with anxiety and depression a year ago? Instead she just gave me another pill to take (lexapro), which was obviously only to counteract the side effects from the Yasmin.
Now that I am taking it again for the last month, I am starting to get pissy and moody over small things that haven't bothered me for the last year. My libido is completely gone which is causing my boyfriend to think that he is doing something wrong....and I hardly have the motivation to do anything anymore other than lay around. Also my boobs are in such pain that I have begun walking around holding both of them in my hands to protect them from getting bumped!!! How could one little pill cause all of these crazy problems????
One side effect I have not read about though...Has anyone ever noticed any type of musky/fishy odor that only comes right after intercourse? I have gone to the doctor about this and she can't come up with anything that is causing this. I have been tested for all STD's, and given a UA to rule out bladder infections, and she also did a culture to see if I have a yeast infection....all of these came back negative....the problem only started in the last month when I started the Yasmin again!!!
Do you think this pill could be the stinky cause?? I would appreciate anyone's comments being that my doctor can't seem to find the problem and refuses to admit that Yasmin could be what is causing over half of the symptoms I have had!!!!

Today is a good day for me, I've having some of the symptoms of the above users of Yasmin. I've been on Yasmin for 5 years and a year ago I've noticed some changes and experiences in my body the main is consistency of Yeast infection which sometimes lead to unrinary tract infection. I never knew what was happening to me as I've not been active for months now. A week ago I started weeding out the possibilities of the cause of this and I came up with my birth control Yasmin.
I began searching the Internet on for the side effects of Yasmin and stumbled upon this site. I have three more pills to go in this package and then that is it for now! I will no longer take this pill. I do not care about the side effects of not taking it! So help me God they will go away even if it takes years to correct it! It took years to get to this point therefore i will be patient with my body to get back to normal.
As with many of you I took birth control to control my flow of period as well as cramps. I know woman's body is different where some can tolerate this and some cannot but I am willing to give it a try. What really bothers me about this is the fact that the symptoms just creep up on you without you even knowing and if you don't take time out to research your emotions and search through your soul and body slowly you will never get it that a simple BCP could mess you up like that. Today I am thankful for keeping that thought of research my birth control pills since last night and keeping it.
I am blessed to hear the testimonies and to know that I am not delusional. I stumbled upon this site for a reason.
Today my healing begins..

The chronicles of my nightmare:
First of all.... I have been on Yasmin about 3 years... I have been batttles for "3 YEARS" with being dizzy, fatigue, vaginal dryness, chronic yeast infections, chronic discharge, mood swings, panic attacks, anger issues, anxiety and stress, trouble sleeping at night, loss in sexual desire, depression, constint fluctuations in my weight (I swing 13 pounds), and gastrointestinal problems.... I have been to every doctor and tried every medication known to man.... (Well almost).... I started testing for thyroid disease cuz my mother has grave's disease... At first I test for hyper (Got put on meds), then went to hypo, then they thought it was hashimoto's thyroid disease, until I tested back to normal and have been normal for about 2 years now even though I have been feel all wacked out. But, during this wholefiasco I had been making regular visits to my OBGYN to see why I am in so much pain from sex and why I have cronic yeast infections.. (Visited two to three times a month to be exact)... I've takin dyflucan (yeast infection pill)... no less than 24 times... Never helping me, so I became immune to that, then we trying creams, which gave me an even worse yeast infection, then we tried a homopathic approach ("biotic acid sappasitories")... Which made me so inflamed and in pain tha I have had the same irritaion/ yeast infection for the past 6 months.... Where no one could help me and the most the Gyno could tell me to do was don't have sex or use tampons for a whole month, which I did... and it didn't help one bit... I tried everything from eating large amounts of yogurt (Which is quite painful cuz Im lactosintolerant).... I tried not shaving my gential area, shaving my genital area, changing body wash, changing detergent, not having sex, and changing lube.. Literally have tried everything... Then, they start sending me to different doctors.. They want to send me to an internal medicine doctor which told me the route of my problems was sleep and that would make everything better... SO, he gave me Xanax.. Which turned out to make me very angry, verbally abusive, and still could not get a good nights rest... Then, he told me I have to go to a physiatrist... Which I am still waiting on to see next month.... I thought all was lost and I would permanently be in pain forever until I thought I would give the practice of gynocology one more chance. Before my visit I decide to do some research on the one medicaton I take..."YASMIN".... I came to this very site and the testimonials blew me away. The side effects that many women were complaining about, were the same exact things that I was going through. I read every single page and went off to a new gyno doctor to explain my situation. She was the best doctor I have ever had.... She immediately said stop taking birth control! She also recommended taking a large about of vitiamins ( like calcium, vit. B complete, and vit. c)... She also said to take warm salt and olive oil baths to overall bring back the nature anatomy of my vagina. She also could'nt stress enough.... DON'T SHAVE! She said that the hair is there for a reason and shaving brings all sort of bacterialinto the fragile vagina... On other thing she said was to use a condom made out of something else, not rubber, latex, or goat skin... I forget what it's called... So, now that I have the knowledge from the doctor and this web site, hopefully my nightmare wll be over soon... I finish my birth control pack in a matter of days and I can't wait to start feeling better after 3 years!!!!!! I never knew that something as simple as a little pill can turn your life upside down and have your dragging for years.... Thank you so much ladies for all your help.... I really could have never found this out without you guys.... I hope I helped someone out there with my story... Has anyone else experienced this kind of horrific nightmare?

I am feeling really good emotionally right now. I am not going to take it for granted though.
Has anyone else got a yeast infection while on or getting off Yasmin?

Hey all! I started Yasmin in February '06 so it's been a few months now. The first month was great, I had never felt better. Around the second month I started crying pretty much everyday and was ready to quit school and move away from everyone and everything. A few weeks ago I had a horrible headache that lasted for a week, which is very unusual for me, I don't get headaches. I was also having the worst vaginal itch imaginable. I went to the gyno and she gave me some samples of migraine medicine...which made everything about 10 times worse and told me I had a yeast infection..which I had also never had before going on Yasmin. 3 weeks later the itching is back with pain as well. I of course jumped to the conclusion of having an STD but I don't have any other symptoms and my boyfriend and I are very careful about using condoms. Has anyone else had any of these symtoms? I'm thinking about stopping Yasmin all together.

HEY GIRLS,
I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT I AM SO HAPPY I AM NOT ALONE WHEN IT COMES TO HATE'N THIS PILL!! I WAS ON FOR 7 MONTHS. OUT OF THOSE 7 MONTHS I HAD A YEAST INFECTION AT LEAST 5 TIMES. IT WAS QUITE ANNOYING. ALSO, I WAS VERY MOODY ALMOST ANGRY RIGHT BEFORE MY PERIOD. IT TOOK ME SOME TIME TO REALIZE THIS PILL IS POISON. MY HAIR STARTED TO FALL OUT AND FINALLY ONE DAY I THOUGHT I HAD A PANIC ATTACK. IT WAS THE PILL...IT MADE ME SO DEPRESSED AND I HAD SO MUCH ANXIETY. MY SEX DRIVE WAS GONE AND WHEN I COULD BRING MYSELF TO HAVE SEX...I WAS DRY LIKE THE SAHARA DESERT. I'M OFF THE PILL 3 MONTHS NOW AND MY HAIR HAS JUST ABOUT STOPPED FALLING OUT. HOWEVER, I HAD ACNE ON MY NECK BADLY FOR A MONTH. MY DERMOTOLOGIST TOLD ME IT WAS THE HORMONES FROM THE PILL COMING OUT OF MY SYSTEM.
IF ANY OF YOU KNOW A GIRL ON THIS PILL PLEASE TELL THEM TO GET OFF OF IT...NOW!! IT'S NOT A BIRTH CONTROL PILL IT'S A DESTRUCTIVE PILL. GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUYS...HOPE EVERYONE FEELS BETTER SOON.

Okay, today I picked up my new prescription that will enable me to get off Yasmin in four days, after a whopping three weeks on it (my last active pill is this weekend.) I hate this pill. I have not been on the pill in several years, at which time I was on Alesse (symptom free) after two other attempts at other pills. I have a history of fibrocystic breast pain, which means that my cyclical breast tenderness, swelling and pain is worse than the average woman's. About a month and a half ago I decided to start BCP again, and at my exam my doctor was about to prescribe Alesse but then suggested maybe I should try Yasmin, because it supposedly is a really good, mild pill for women with bloating and breast pain like I have and was comparable to Alesse as well. Supposedly, some special hormone acts as a diuretic.
Um, wow, how wrong he was! Day one and day two were actually fine. A little touch of nausea but that's all. Then day three and I started to notice the problems, which have been drastically increasing in severity each and every day since:
Breast tenderness has now turned into extreme breast pain and bloating.
Unbelievable fatigue.
Absolutely no energy (and I am an extremely energetic, healthy woman.)
Loss of sex drive (just what I need in a new relationship, right? Thankfully my boyfriend is extremely understanding.)
Foggy feeling in head.
Anxiety.
Turned my regular period (which I was in during my first week of active pills) into a full week of breakthrough flow that was VERY different from my normal menstrual flow.
Yeast infection (although that may be a relapse of one I had before I started this pill).
Depression.
Irritability.
No desire to exercise at all (I love to swim and I can barely drag myself to the pool!) I just want to lay around.
General "not right" feeling in my mood and head.
Cramps all month.
I called the dr's office at the end of week one about the breast tenderness but was intercepted by a nurse who insisted I give it a few months. I was willing to at the time but the other effects started to take hold after that and finally yesterday after three calls got my own doctor on the phone, who, after hearing my list of symptoms, didn't even argue with me and immediately wrote me up a new script for Alesse which I picked up today. I find the better doctors are the ones who accept that your body may not be adjusting well to a particular pill and willingly change your prescription upon request. That's how I found Alesse years ago, after trying to others. I was pretty much problem free on Alesse.
I cannot wait until this Saturday, my last Yasmin tablet!

Wow, I just started Yasmin a couple of weeks ago and have experienced HORRIBLE side effects!! I've constantly been tired and bleeding so much between my periods. I have cramps constantly that hurt worse than the ones during my period. I've tried to go to my doctor but am not able to go until the 29th of this month. I now have a yeast infection as well so I figure that it is because of this stupid pill. Has anyone else experienced severe stomach cramps while on the pill??? All these stories sound scary and I am definitely going to tell my doctor I want to be on something else.

I just started on Yasmin this week and have already been experiencing side effects. I feel hopeless, anxious and have thought about suicide more than once since beginning. I snap at my boyfriend and cry for no reason and am super sensitive to everything he says. I have been unable to take other forms of BC because of another med, but thought Yasmin would be OK because it has a higher dosage of hormones. Has anyone else experienced this so early? Should I get off it now? I have also been experiencing a yeast infection since starting. Anyone else? I'd love to hear feedback. Thank you, girls! This site has helped me reconsider Yasmin as a birth control option.

Hey Girls,
I've put several posts up here before, I am starting my fourth pack of Yasmin today. The first pack I had breakthrough bleeding, the second pack I didn't, the third pack I had it again. So, I wonder if the breakthrough bleeding will subside now? Not to be gross, but my periods are shorter, but they are absolutely revolting! It's just nasty -- clotting and things like that, for a few days it is so heavy -- has this happened to anyone else? Also, now that my period is over, I have strange discharge, it's really thick and gross too. It's not an infection or anything, I asked my primary care doctor one time if birth control changes discharge, and he said it usually doesn't -- but I think it can? I don't know. I feel embarrased to even attempt intercourse because it's just gross. Speaking of intercourse, I've either had a yeast infection or breakthrough bleeding -- so I haven't even been able to take advantage of this pill for almost 4 months, I'm glad I have an understanding boyfriend.
My mom was on the pill for about 9 years and said she had these same problems that I'm having. Then she got an IUD, but she had complications with it because it grew into her uterus. I don't know what to do! Is there anyone that has tried an IUD?
Just let me know through here or through my email if anyone has any ideas. Have a good day!

In response to the woman complaining about painful intercourse: I just went off Yasmin after about a year and a half. During that time, sex became so painful that I dreaded having it. The lack of lubrication left me always feeling raw and like I was developing a yeast infection. Store-bought lubricants didn't really help, either. I've been off the pill for 2 weeks now, and everything is TOTALLY back to normal. I was starting to despair, thinking there was something wrong with me, and that my sex life would never be the same. Now, I am SO RELEIVED. I also had some of the emotional side effects that others have mentioned here, and all of them are going away. I actually feel like me for the first time in a long time. I never suspected that my BCP was responsible --I'll definitely think twice about ever going on one again.

It's me again - I don't know who really keeps up with reading this site, but I know I do because it is very informative.
My most recent post was around V-Day, I think - and it was complaints of vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse - whether it was related to Yasmin or not. Anyway, the most bizarre thing has been happening for the past few nights. I take my pill at 8AM everyday, never late because my OB told me it was super important (plus it is kind of a test to see what happens because I had problems with Alesse) - besides the point... The past few nights I have had spotting between 7-8PM, and it goes away by the morning, and I'm fine all day long, until mid-evening, and it is very, physically irritating. I don't know what to do. I feel like my OB thinks I bother her all the time, I always feel like I have a yeast infection, and I am very down about this whole situation.
Everyone always says to take it at least 1-3months, so I think I will continue one more month to see if my body is strong enough to take over the weirdness. Other than kind of odd vaginal issues - I've been okay.
I'm get down because I'm frustrated.

I've only been on Yasmin for 2 months. I have been to the doctor more in the past month than i have in my life. I had never had an yeast infection before this pill and have now had one non stop for 4 weeks. I am constantly bloated. I have migraines 3 times a week. My cramping during my period is unbearable. Vaginal dryness, crying, and dry skin are some others Im experiencing. I have told my doctor that i think this all has to do with this pill but she insists that it is not. I'm going to try this pill for 1 more month then and if it doesn't improve I'm off. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.

After finding this site, I realized that some problems I have been having may be related to Yasmin. I started taking it a year ago, and since then, I have had a yeast infection about every two months, anxiety attacks, bad headaches, and severe tension in my back, neck, and upper shoulders. I mentioned this to my doctor, and she said that all birth control pills have certain side effects and that my symptoms weren't really related to the pill and that I shouldn't switch brands. She said that Yasmin was a really good pill. I disagree! Does anyone know of a GOOD pill? I was thinking of asking for Ortho Tri Cylcen Lo.

I've just been through two weeks of inexorable synthetic-hormone hell (the surreptitious diuretic notwithstanding.)
Now, my life was no walk in the park prior to my two week consumption of Yasmin, but thanks to the extremely painful cystic acne break-out and yeast infection with subsequent smarting vulva, alongside exacerbation of my depression and increase in suicidal ideation/social phobia, plus vaginal spotting nearly everyday since my period stopped, I can safely claim all notions of the aforementioned 'park' (and any nearby verdure) have been concreted over with planning permission granted to a pharmaceutical drugs monopoly peddling this toxin to unsuspecting women.
I should have known something was awry when the pill's inaugural admittance to my body was met with a severe bout of vomiting and I have been feeling intermittently nauseous all throughout my course.
I truly believe just this short spell has marred my mental discernment and judgement, I'm sure my partner would concur also, the culmination of this shift in mood being my decision to split with him! I have been feeling so detached and downcast with ever-decreasing interest in sex, and this is some volte-face for a 23 year-old with a former intractable hankering for online pornographic password cracking!
Doctors should not be prescribing this symptomatological timebomb as a 'safe', 'symptom-free', 'good fit' to swathes of the female population undeserving of their first ever panic attack, or to put a slightly less reactionary spin on it: their first ever foray into the searing world of vaginal thrush with an irascible helping of labial discomfort.
When I awoke two days ago with a shooting pain in my buttock, I realised I'd reached the point of no-return! My oestrogen/progesterone limen was reached and I hastily discontinued use. I'm not even sure if the buttock was just waging a sublimated protest or if it's also a pandemic side-effect but when one's gluteus maximus undergoes a paraleptic surge you know it's time to abjure this hormonal cartel.
I must also add, in common with many people who've written here my breasts are also extremely tender and sizeable.
I have promptly stopped taking Yasmin and would implore others to do the same before things escalate. It is regrettable that so many women ply their bodies with these pharmaceutical drugs on a long-term basis solely for the purpose of contraception. I don't think it is a healthy lifestyle choice not least because when you loose your own physical homeostasis and sex drive, vicariously subjecting your body to an unnatural regulatory system it is not a good situation for any relationship. Therefore, the very modus operandi of the pill becomes obsolete anyway.

I had tremendous probelmes with every pill I tried. Yasmin was the last one and it did an even bigger number on my than the other ones. In addition to thinking I had a yeast infection for 3 years, which I did not, Yasmin made my cholesterol jump up to 264!! I was very active at the time I was on Yasmin and did not have horrendous eating habits by any means. I stopped taking Yasmin after I received the cholesterol results and within 3 months my cholesterol had dropped to 189. I had not changed my eating habits, but I had become LESS active. It is also a diuretic, which would explain a lot of the stomach and bowel issues noted below. I would not recommend this pill.

WOW. Thank goodness I found this site.
I was put on Yasmin one month ago after I was experiencing breakthrough bleeding with Ortho Novum. Almost immediately I felt UTI-like symptoms. Constantly having to go to the bathroom. Because I used to have them regularly, I went back into my gyno to get tested, and hopefully some antibiotics. My test was negative. She sent me home. I came back a week later as the symptoms had stayed...I just could not stop going! But I had no burning or pain, just major frequency. She tested my discharge and said it had some yeats in it. I have only once ever had a yeast infection (from antibiotics). She said the yeast may have travelled up and infected my bladder. She also said my urine was very alkaline, and asked if I was on atkins, which I am not.
She gave me FOUR doses of diflucan, detrol LA for overactive bladder, a peeing schedule to follow, and a sleeping pill to help me through the night.
I told her I was wondering if it was the yasmin, and she did not say anything to confirm this.
For the first 2 weeks of her medications, I did not feel better at all. Now I am off the active yasmin pills and am starting to feel better!
I TRULY think that all of that was because of Yasmin. I was healthy before I started taking it.
Also had:
brown discharge the 3rd week
when it was time for my period, NOTHING, except when having sex
NO sex drive
Hard time getting aroused for sex
Major dizziness
Pain in wrists
If anyone has had an experience similar to mine, regarding the urinary frequency, please email or post!!
I think I am going off BCP's for good...so tired of trying and failing with these...

Thanks everyone, this site has been so helpful to me.
I didn't make the connection with my side effects and Yasmin. I attributed all of them to something else. I have had anxiety, severe stomach pain, bloating (like I was pregnant), bad indigestion and horrible gas (yuck), my breasts are bigger and sore all the time, no matter what I do I can't seem to drop this extra 5 pounds (I eat very healthy and work out 5-6 times a week), my chin breaks out constantly (although other areas have cleared up), and oddly the area above my lip has darkened (even though I get my lip waxed regularly and have light hair). I had my first yeast infection in my life on Yasmin, which I've been taking for 4 months.
I found a reason for all of these things until my stomach started cramping and bloating so bad (in addition to the gas...constantly), that I was in tears. I called my mom (a nurse practioner) and she suggested it might be the Yasmin. Then I found this website and am not going to take another pill. Thank goodness, I found this out. My gyno said to make an appointment with the gastrointerologist and that it might be an ulcer or IBS. I can't wait to be normal again.

I have been on Yasmin for a year and it seems to have worked out so far. I have lost a bunch of weight, but most of all, my period is on time and lasts for only 5 days instead of 10. I got a yeast infection withiin the first month of using it but that was all. The only other side effect that I have experienced is a very small amount of pinkish(blood) discharge right after my period(has happened twice). But thats a rare occurence also. My gyn says not to worry so I haven't. Overall, I love this pill. i have been on several others in the past, all with major side effects. As for my sex drive, it has greatly increased. 2 thumbs up to yasmin.

I have only been taking Yasmin for a month and a half, but after reading this laundry list of side effects, I think it's safe to say that it may be the cause of some of the problems I've been having. I have never, ever had a yeast infection and I believe I had my first one shortly after my first menstrual cycle while on Yasmin (a plus -- my usually lengthy period only lasted a week and there were only 2 heavy days). I find it so difficult to get up in the morning, and when I get home from work (even the many days I only work part-time), I'm exhausted. I'm so irritable even *I* don't want to be around me most of the time, and I knew there was a problem when I found myself just wanting to get away from my precious and well-behaved 9-month-old daughter. I have a call into my doctor's office and hopefully this will be the last month I'm on this pill. It had such great word-of-mouth, I was really surprised to read all of these negatives -- however, the only change in my lifestyle over the past month and a half has been taking Yasmin, and that's when all these negatives began occurring for me.

I have not had great success on birth control, so I decided to try Yasmin, seeing as it was a new drug using a new kind of progesterin. I did not make the connection until i found this site. The first 2 months were ok, but did notice that i had less energy, and some depression. I was optimistic about this pill. The second week into my third pack, i got a raging yeast infection. This is something i had experienced in the past on many other brands of BC. I was so upset. yet another one failed. I cleared that up, and i am begining to feel dizy, and my boobs are getting big, and i feel all bloated in my tummy. I only have 5 more pills to take, and i can't wait go get off them. i feel as i am pregnant, but hopefully am not. I hope it is just a side effect from this drug. As soon as i start my period, i am going in for an IUD. no more hormones. my husabnd has noticed a huge change in my mood and says that he will do anything as long as i dont take the pill. If the iud does not work, i am getting my tubes tied. I have 2 wonderful kids, and am tired of battling with this entire birth control stuff. those of you who are doing fine on this pill, consider yourself lucky.

I too was a Yasmin guinea pig. Guess the drug companies had my OB/GYN conviced that Yasmin was the latest, greatest thing 2 years ago. I had been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and had all the lousy stuff that accompanies it, such as horrible skin and hirsutism and was told Yasmin was the best bc pill available to alleviate my symptoms. At first I thought it was great, I lost quite a bit of weight, which was always hard to keep off with the Orhto-Tri Cyclen. My skin improved as well. But after 3 months, I would get a yeast infection every single month, always the Friday before my period started! And I am someone who very rarely has had a yeast infection. Then I noticed my hair was falling out by the root, I had to constantly sweep it from my bathroom floor! The last straw was when I nearly had somekind of a mental breakdown after ongoing extreme depression. I didn't know what the heck was going on and two doctors that I talked to just shrugged me off. I finally made the connection when I got my precription filled at a different pharmacy and read the new drug info regarding the side effects. These included hair loss, yeast infections and emotional problems. Why this wasn't included in the drug info when I initially had the Rx filled is maddening, perhaps when the drug was new these side effects were not known. I am bitter about being subjected to the effects of this new drug, bitter about all the hair I lost but grateful I stopped in time before I committed suicide, which I felt very close to doing! I am now back on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen, which isn't ideal, but not nearly as dangerous as the evil Yasmin. To this day I don't think my doctors believe me because the drug companies have them under their spell and maybe the kickbacks are just too tempting. I am glad this website exists to warn others not to take it!

I thought I was going crazy after getting constant yeast infections over the past year with no help for looking into possible reasons for this from the nurse pract. I was someone who had maybe one yeast infection every other year - now I have had one pretty much constantly for the past 8 months. After reading several other posts on this I think that Yasmine may be the cause.
I have also had insomnia for over a year (been on this pill for almost two years) and never would have made the connection to Yasmine if it was not for this site. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia as well and now I wonder if the joint pain, leg pain, numbness in my legs and feet might be Yasmine as well. Not to mention the leg pain waking me up at night. Doctors thought that I might have neuropathy (nerve damage). I wonder if all of this might not be from this pill.
The last 6 or 7 months (of the 2 years of taking this pill) I have noticed increased bloating and HORRIBLE cramps and the last 2 months weight gain (with no change in diet or exercise).
I am going to talk to my GYN next week about this and even if she does not agree, I am going off this pill given everything I have read here. Scarry that all of my symptoms might be tied to this pill.
