I developed a chronic cough while on Toprol. It got so bad I could hardly talk on the phone or sleep. Thinking I was developing and allergy, I went to an ENT doctor and an allergist. They treated me for allergies. By chance, on my annual physical with my regular doctor, I brought up the bad coughing. She immediately told me that it was my blood pressure medicine and changed the prescription. However, by that time, I had been coughing so hard that I ruptured a disk in my neck and had to have neck surgery. So, if you start developing a cough you can't seem to get rid of on this medication, please see your doctor immediately and don't think it could be allergies. I waited too late because who would have thought that blood pressure medicine would create a dry, chronic cough.

I have been on Toprol 50mg for a few years and thought I had no problems. However 2 years ago I had the lap band surgery and one year later had it removed...I LOST NOTHING. After Dr.s telling me I was cheating and that was the reason, I see all these posting. Further, the medication was just uped to 100mg and ever since I have been itching like you would not believe. The Dr wants me to go to an allergist as he sees no reason for the itching. I now see it to be a rare side affect. I scratch so much I bring up blood! I think I need to have another discussion with my Dr.
