I was given Singulair by my doctor to take for severe allergic rhinitus and chronic sinusitis, in addition to the Zyrtec and oral steroids I have been taking. At first, it seemed to help with sinus congestion, but did cause problems with sleeping--nightmares and waking up "jittery" and unable to get back to sleep. Then, after about 3 weeks, I began to experience violent vertigo, to the point of being unable to function. I could barely stand, was nauseated to the point of vomiting, experiencing sweats and hot flashes. I stopped the Singulair today and will see if symptoms improve and post again in a few days.

Starting taking Singulair two months ago in February for allergies. Around the same time, I started having hot flashes. So, I thought all my symptoms must be due to menopause. Severe depression, very vivid dreams, nervous, irritable, mood swings, tired all the time, weight gain and dizziness, and chest pains. I did not feel like myself. Like I was watching my life crumble and there was nothing I could do. Woke up today and realized that something was wrong. Googled Singulair side effects and was shocked to read that so many people are having the same side effects. Did not take the pill this morning - by 4:00PM - I already feel like a new person.

Signulair has made me feel like I am having menopause (I'm only 32)--hot flashes; fevers that come and go; complete exhaustion. I didn't know what it was at first--and then the sleeplessness and nightmares hit--dreams that were graphically disturbing, that made me sad all the next day. This is a powerful drug, and I highly, highly recommend AGAINST taking it.

my 10 year old daughter was put on singulair by an infectious disease doctor that had seen some improvements in kids taking this who have chronic sinus infections and swelling of sinus tissues...my daughter showed an improvement in sinus problems but noticed a 20 pound weight gain from 62 to 82 pounds in a few months..owed this to better health from pill and tonsil/sinus surgery...went off singulaire that summer...at Christmas my daughter caught a bad cold which turned into a potentially fatal frontal sinus infection from infected swelling frontal sinus (called Pott's Puffy Tumor)...she was put on IV antibiotics and singulair..she takes nasonex and sudafed regularly and does daily sinus rinsing...since starting the singulair again she is increasingly hungry and she is gaining weight again...slightly moody, never feels full...but the new symptom is pain in her side at the lower rib cage..this started after singulair for 2 months...the pain wraps around her side and reaches to her navel area...last night she woke up with severe cramping in her stomach every 10 minutes like labor contractions....after an hour she developed all over hives and was having hot flashes during the cramping...she had just taken her second dose of Entex which is an expectorant to thin her sinus mucous...at the time of these symptoms she has been off her IV drugs for 3 weeks...so these other posts really make me suspect singulair for weight gain and abdominal/rib pain and cramping..anyone with similar symptoms?..

I have taken Singulair for one month and have had severe asthma. The doctors all told me to continue taking it but were puzzled about the asthma since my lungs were clear. Thought it could be acid reflux. No - - it was the Singulair. Same thing happened with Allegra. These medications have 3 common ingredients. I will never take either one again. Singulair also caused severe hot flashes, extreme tiredness, ringing in my ears, but the asthma was the scariest thing I have ever experienced and it went on for 1 month before I threw it out!!!! Doctors just do not understand that people are sometimes allergic to medicines and these were a nightmare for me! I missed one month of work, suffering with asthma needlessly! I am back to taking the decongestant Semprex-D as I never had any trouble with this.

While taking Singulair as a trial for 30 days, I began having sudden onset of hot flashes. I had so many hot flashes that I began to keep count. I would count 20 or more hot flashes in one day. I began to think back over what I had done differently during the time period that the hot flashes occurred. I hadn't changed my diet. The only change was that I was taking Singulair. I stopped taking Singulair and within 24 hrs. the hot flashes were gone.

Hi,
I had a systemic allergic reaction to an allergy injection. I was treated at the hospital with Benadryl and Prednisone. I was told to continue to take both, but still was having problems with sinus inflammation related to the reaction a day later. I saw my Dr. who told me to up the Prednisone and start taking Singulair.
-- By napagirl2007 | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message meWell I started having side effects worse than the sinus inflammation I originally had within a few hours of taking the Singulair. I totally chalked them up to Prednisone side effects, since that drug has so many issues. But the side effects were different than those listed from Prednisone, and different from the last time I had to take Prednisone for an allergy attack. I had INTENSE head pressure (not just the sinuses, but everywhere), muscle tightness/pressure in my neck muscles and at the base of my skull. I don't know if this was a side effect or not, but I had freezing hands and feet, also VERY cold.. except my face was hot. I also got hot flushes occasionally in my body, like on the backs of my thighs. I also felt "out of it".. very dizzy and slow to respond. I was also very confused by why my sinus inflammation was not really responding to the Prednisone since it is such a strong anti-inflammatory. Well, I stopped taking the Singulair last night after reading this site, and I am feeling back to normal! Even my sinuses have unplugged. I suppose this could all be something besides the Singulair, but I am not chancing it again.
