Mirena and sweats

Well, I first typed in on November 14th with a laundry list of my Mirena problems. I went in on Nov. 15th and had it removed. Within 2 days my bloating was gone. Within 1 day the gas and bowl issues seemed to disappear. My emotions are better but I know that they are not normal yet. I din't have major bleeding the first 2 days (Fri & Sat) but it started and it was pretty heavy yesterday (Sunday) but seems to be tapering down a little today. I am still having nights sweats but I know that these will go away also in time. The one thing that seems contant among the doctors that insert the Mirena is that all of the side effects that we are experiencing could NOT possibly from the Mirena. Are you kidding me? I am starting to wonder if the docs aren't getting some sort of kick back from the company manufacturing the Mirena. My doctor tried to talk me out of removing it but I stuck to my guns and feel so blessed that I did. Now I can enjoy my baby girl before she is a toddler. I had a gorgeous baby girl in April. My future husband and I spoke about our B.C. options after her birth and decided that the Mirena would work great for both of us. I spoke with my Dr. because I had been on the Depo in the past (progesterone based) and I had gained a ton of weight. She said that because of the low continuous dose of progesterone, weight wouldn't be an issue. At the end of June I had the Mirena put in. I went in for a recheck to make sure that it was in position in the beginning of August after my wedding (I know... The cart before the horse). At this time I weighed 132 lbs. It is now mid November and I have been having some pretty severe gastric problems. I went to my internal med Dr. a couple of weeks ago and I weighed in at a wopping 146 lbs. I know that it doesn't sound like a lot but to gain that much weight in a short time is nauseating. I am not pregnant anymore. Here is what my symptoms were and why I chose to go to internal medicine and not the gyn. I had TERRIBLE gas. Not only often but the smell. My new husband and baby looked at me like I was a monster. Not to mention the horrible side and back cramps. Bloating was now my best friend and not saved for "that time of the month". My internal med Dr. thought that my gall bladder might be failing because she said that she sees a lot of this in post natal women. I went through 2 weeks of tests from blood draws to scooping my stool into test vials for analysis to having radiographic dyes shot into me to make a movie of my gall bladder function. I couldn't hold my baby for a whole day because I was radioactive. The results turned up nothing. I sat at home on my couch that night (11/13/08) feeling defeated and not understanding what was happening to my body. I reflected on what was different about me, since the birth of my daughter, and all I could come up with was the Mirena. I decided that it was a shot in the dark, but I was going to check out the side effects online. Then I found all of you. OMG, I am a text book case of everything that you all are reporting. The following are my other symptoms that I have been dealing with. I hope it helps you when trying to find a B.C. that is right for you. My sex drive has gone out the bottom... Not to mention my new found skinniness. My headaches are dull and nagging and I am on the verge of massive panic/anxiety attacks on a weekly basis. I lost about half of my head of hair (it started falling out about 2 months after the Mirena was inserted). I go from massive, can't find a bathroom fast enough diarrhea to really soft obnoxious smelling stools. My husband has stated, on many occasions, that he is a man and can "appreciate a good, healthy fart" but what I have makes him want to throw up. Did I mention the bloating? My periods are lighter but last almost 2 weeks every month. I have night sweats and hot flashes. I am irritable and tired all of the time. Funny enough, my tolerance for alcohol has decreased dramatically and I go from having fun and drinking a cocktail to wasted, hammered drunk in seconds. I have acne all of the time and its everywhere... my face, back, chest. I have never suffered from acne. I hope that I covered all of my side effects but I may have missed a few because there are so many things that I am experiencing. Needless to say, I feel like a have a voice and a remedy to everything that I have been going through over the past 2 months. Today, at 30 years old, I going to take a stand for my body... I am having my Mirena taken out at 1:15 this afternoon. Hopefully life will smell and feel so much better... LOL

I am so glad that i found this site. I was feeling like i am going CRAZY! I got the mirena after my third child Oct 2005. I can't wait to have it removed!!!! My story started by going to the doctor to find a good birth control. My doctor suggested the mirena, it sounded like the perfect method for me...up until today Oct 2008, i thought that it was perfect.
After the insertion everything was great until i started to feel like i was always pregnant(tender breast, nausea and vomiting, weight gain, and dizziness). I would report to doctor, have test run, simply told that i might have a stomach virus. Symptoms would come and go alone with now major hair loss, constant yeast infections, sore limbs, greasy oily skin, unexplained sweats, losing of 30 lbs, but gaining back 10 lbs in a month, bloated stomach, mood swings, unexplained sadness/depressions!!! I use to have long thick hair, but now i barely have any. My scalp is so sore and my hair is very dry and brittle. I thought that maybe i was just stressing myself and needed to take it easy. I started to grow very tired, drowsy with blurry vision, stressed-out, even slipped into deep depressions about any and everything. I would blow up on anyone for anything. I am so not feeling like myself....
After several OB-GYN and Dermatology appointments, I came to the conclusion that it might just be my so called "perfect" birth control. I expected my doctors to know the exact reason after i mentioned by birth control but they would always say that it was not likely to be the mirena. I will be having this removed this week. I just hope and pray that everything goes back to normal including all my beautiful thick hair.

October I received my mirena in 2006, if I had known then what I know
1st now I would never have gotten it. My husband and I share 3
2008 beautiful children, 2 being twins, since the risk of having another
8.30am set of twins was high, and his refusal of a vasectomy, my
doctor assured me this was the best thing for me. During the
2 years that my mirena was in I gained 20 kilos and continued
to gain blowing me up to 130 kilos. I have always been chubby
but no efforts to lose weight would work. I suffered depression
and the same doctor started me on medication for that,
still saying nothing about my mirena as the possible cause for
my problems. I was suffering excessive sweating, and not the
nice smelling kind, terrible tiredness and fatigue, aches and
pains, pelvic pain and complete loss of periods. It was only
when I went to my doctor a few months ago and demanded
that the mirena be removed, that I have started to improve. No
more sweats, I am still on my depression medication and am in
the process of weening off it. I have started to lose some weight
but unfortunately have now been blessed with liver disease. If
it's not one thing it's another. I have been researching to see if
mirena has contributed to my liver problem as I did not have it
before the mirena was inserted ????????? My experience has
not been a happy one, but losing trust in who I thought was a
good doctor really sucks. Don't take what they say as truth!!!!
Now I have to convince my husband to have a vasectomy and
so far he is proving quite difficult!!!!!

I am now 28 and I've had the Mirena IUD since Jan. 2006. I have gained 20lbs since. It has to be the Mirena, because I have never been over 135 lbs, even after childbirth, I was only 130. Just recently I started to get bad headaches everyday. I keep Motrin in stock. I normally keep a bottle of Motrin for at least a year, but now I buy one once a month. I was told there were no side effects with this method as far as weight gain was concerned, but I feel I was lied to. You know doctors get compensated for getting us to use these meds by the pharm companies. Seriously though, the Mirena works. I have had unprotected sex with my boyfriend numerous amounts of times, and I did not get pregnant. The thing is the weight gain, the headaches, the increased body sweats, and bodily fluids, **you have to shower more** it's a must, I have to wear a panty liner at all times or my panties will be wet. When the Mirena was inserted, I was terrible pain for 2 months and I blead for 6 weeks non stop. I would ball up in a knot sometimes and could not move. I had to push myself to go to work and school and plus I had 2 little girls. It was terrible. I don't have a period anymore now, I just spot from time to time, but the panty liner is always in place, so that's all I really use. My only concern with this IUD really is the headaches, and the weight issue, I also heard it could make me sterile.. That's is something I think I would have to sue over. I want a son one day.It's one thing for me to not want anymore kids by my choice, but to have the ability to reproduce taken away from me and it's not by choice.....I would be devastated. I am thinking about having it remove before my 5 years is up. I don't miss my period, so I don't know. I would like to loose the weight though, but I have no energy.
