lithium is the best thing that ever happened to me. it is the only mood stabalizer that actually worked for me. it was the first one i was prescribed... then i tried out a few more.. but went back to lithium.. for me it was very hard to get used to. i felt dumb for a few months. but once you get stable on it it works like a wonder drug. i also take paxil and wellbutrin so sometimes you may have to take a few different things but hey... id rather take 6 pills a day then be crazy.

My husband is on this for bipolar disorder and I don't know if it's the medication working or the fact that I was about to leave him that made him act more stable...but either way, he's doing a lot better. He's also on paxil for depression. His job requires a lot of physical work and strain, so when he's at home in the evening relaxing or laying down-he's out! In other words, it can make you feel tired and lathargic. I was on this medication before too and it not only made me tired, but I was hungry all the time...not starving, but I just wanted to eat all the time. My advice: get checked regularly because this drug is hard on your liver...or is it your kidneys? One of those:) and exercise because you'll need the energy boost that working out gives a person. Hope this helps.

I have been on lithium for almost two years now....Although the does needs increasing here and there. When this happens i get the splitting headache nasuea and tremors. sometimes it is frightening but it seems to go away after a few days. Weight gain? well i've been chubby my whole life, it is a trade off. I am very glade too have been diagnosed and finally am getting stable.
