Avelox and panic attack

I am on my fifth day taking Avelox. Today I noticed some increased anxiety and my ankles hurt?! A throbbing and frightening pain.. both ankles. I've already called my doctor and will go see him tomorrow. I did not do anything strenuous at all that would cause this. The anxiety is killing me!

Starting taking Avelox last Thursday (May 29) after having a sinus infection/pneumonia. Sunday afternoon I was watching "one flew over the cuckoo's nest. I started getting really paranoid that i was gonna loose my mind and started a panic attack and plenty of anxiety. Monday I was hanging out with my amazing girlfriend and started getting really anxious and depressed over basically nothing. Today is Wednesday and I'm really dizzy and anxious as I write this. F#$% this medicine, I'm calling my doc tomorrow to take something else... You're not going crazy, it's just the avelox. PS - Good site to find :)

I am very scared right now and concerned, but recently I have been sick for the last 3 weeks or 4 weeks. I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and he prescribed some Amoxicillin for my sickness. He said he couldn't identify what I had so he gave me a broad based anti biotic. For about a week I took it and didn't get any better. The medicine caused me to get dizzy spells after sleep and before sleep. So this week I went back to the doctor and he said the medicine wasn't helping me and my white blood cell count had gone up. So I had to get some blood taken . Then the nurse couldn't find my vain easily. She managed to get a little blood though and took it for lab samples. The doctor came back and said I needed to take some Avelox and gave it to me. So for about two days I took it and I felt ok, but later the second day I started having a panic attack for no reason. I told my dad I needed to lay down.

After that, my dad made me some food and I laid down and watched TV and the feeling soon left. I was really feeling sick so I got a cold rag and put it on my forehead. I was looking forward to my mom coming home from Wednesday night church. I fell asleep for about 30 minutes. Then my mom came home and woke me up and we talked for a bit and then I went back to sleep.

Well, today I got curious about my medicine and looked it up and found out some terrible news. The medicine I am taking has actually landed people in the hospital. I found a site where people who had taken it posted what the side affects were. They all had reports about having anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and muscle aches.It was then I realized that my medicine is what caused the panic attack the day before. I called my dad instantly and told him about the bad side affects. He didn't really seem to care that much. He listened to me though, which is a step up from my mom. Then I called my mom and explained to her. She just ignored me and didn't care. I was crying and I felt so terrible and frustrated. I was just trying to explain to her that my medicine caused very bad side affects and even thoughts of suicide. She didn't really seem concerned though, she said she'd call my doctor and talk to him about it.

Right now my parents and I are just really stressed about this whole thing. I refuse to take my medicine because of it's dangerous side affects... but if I don't have any medication at all I won't get better. I'm just in a really bad situation and I am just so depressed I feel as if I could burst!! Everyday I feel like utter crap and my vision is screwed up and I don't have an appetite so I have to make myself eat. Also, my white blood cell count keeps getting higher and if something isn't done soon what I have could be very dangerous.

I keep praying to God... but it doesn't feel like he hears me. I am in great emotional pain, my parents are never home and I'm lonely the majority of the day to , and being sick doesn't help. I am starting to experience a bit of the thoughts of suicide.I keep convincing myself I need to live and I'll get better and I don't need to die. It's hard though I am fighting with all my might to keep it away.

My story: I was prescribed Avelox for a small infection from shaving (foliculitus). I started taking this antibiotic the following day, it was a wednesday. Saturday night while bowling, I had what I consider to be a panic/anxiety attack, where I felt a disconnection happening between my mind and my body. I just wrote that instance off as just that, an anxiety attack. Well on monday I had a full blown attack and felt reality slipping away, and felt completely disconnected from my body and my surroundings. Everything became surreal. I went to see the prescribing physician, and she told me to stop taking Avelox, and that, this can happen to some people. Well I stopped taking it on that wednesday, and now its friday and I still feel completely disconnected from my body. I am scared and need to know if this will go away, I don't want to feel like this anymore. Does anyone know how long I will have to deal with this feeling?

I have bronchitis and my doctor prescribed Avelox. I have never been allergic to anything so I thought that I would be fine. So, took it for the first time yesterday and by 7pm I was having tingling all in my arms. I really didn't know which meds would have caused it. I am also on Prednisone and Hydro -PC for cough. Went to the doctor this morning they wanted to see me....he assumed that it was the cough medicine and took me off of it. Took my antibiotic this afternoon and guess who has tingling in arms and legs...Yeah, I am coming off of this. I have been talking my self through a panic attack, can't sleep and my eyes are kinda droopy. My face feels weird.....I will never take this again.

I was prescribed Avelox for a sinus infection. After taking one pill, I woke up that night with my heart racing and from that through myself into a panic attack. I was at the Doctors office today for an EKG (came back normal). I was told to never take this drug again. Now almost 24 hours after taking just one dose, I am still experiencing heart palpitations and an anxiety feeling. I feel like I drank a whole pot of coffee and ran a marathon. Don't take this drug!!!!! I'm wondering how long it will take to get out of my system??

I was given Avelox after sinus surgery in August. I called the doctor told them I felt awful sick and nauseated. He switched me to another antibiotic. Here I am in December still not better been on at least two other antibiotics since the bought in August. I started Augmentin 3 weeks ago and had horrible itching after about a week being on it. Went back to my Doctor who out put me back on Avelox. Took the first dose at about 9 am within 30 minutes my throat was itchy and I was breaking out in hives and went into a panic attack. Took Benadryl as well as was prescribed Xanax for anxiety attacks still going on. I don't know if it is the fear of my throat closing but my pharmacy now has warnings for me for Penicillins as well as Avelox related drugs. Never had drug reactions before ever now . Went back to ENT put me on Medro pak which after seeing an allergist recommended. He also wanted me on Biaxin but I am not taking it at this point. There are allergy tests for drugs I would recommend and anyone experiencing any side effects to be checked after reactions to Avelox after reading this board I realize I was having an allergic reaction the first time in August and never should have been on it again.

I am 24 year old male. The doctor said I have fluid in my ears. About on day 4 of taking the Avelox pill, I had a horrible attack. My pupils dilated and my heart began to race. My parents convinced me I was just having a panic attack or anxiety attack WHICH I HAVE NEVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I cannot sleep I wake up feeling like I am in a nightmare. I am short of breath, I feel so absolutely horrible, I wish I stopped taking it sooner! I just finished my last pill, day 10. I find myself asking god to help me and I am not even religious. I pray that my heart and body start feeling normal again in a few days. I know tomorrow I will not feel better, I have been taking the pill at 7 pm every night for the past 10 days. So I know I am in for a few more hellish days and nights. Email me if you have any advice or if we can sue anyone for this.

I was given Avelox after a hospital stay with diverticulitis. My insurance woudn't cover the other anti-biotic which I can't remember the name of right now, so they replaced it with Avelox. About 30 minutes after taking my first dose of Avelox I had a rapid and pounding heart beat, shortness of breath, disorientation, and extreme anxiety. I went to the ER and they told me I was having a panic attack, but I know this was the Avelox! They gave me Ativan to take with the Avelox so I would fall asleep instead of feeling like crap with the avelox. Two months later I still suffer from a pounding in my chest which the doctors can't figure out. I believe I am having long term effects from the Avelox. It should be banned. Don't take it and don't let the doctors convince you that you are having anxiety.

I went to my doctor this past Thursday because I was experiencing ringing in my ears for about a month. No other symptoms other than the ringing - and it was just quite annoying. Doc put me on Avelox and Prednisone for a sinus infection. Took the first dose Thursday and the second Friday morning. Within and hour, the back of my head and neck were so full of intense pressure and pain. I felt dizzy, unsteady, sweaty and panicky. Called the doc who said that I wouldn't react that fast, and it was probably just part of the sinus infection. Continued to take both drugs all weekend, but still felt the intense pain and pressure after taking the Avelox. Last night, woke up around midnight with severe panic attack, disorientation, pain and pressure in the back of my head and neck - Scary! I called my doc and I told him I'm not taking it anymore. I had NO symptoms when I went to see him and left with more "stuff" going on in my head now! I'm going to see an ENT now.

After 6 out of 10 pills taken I have severe head pain, severe neck pain, weak, dizzy, panic attack, dry mouth, etc. Sinusitis was the diagnosis and I was so dehydrated I had 2 bags of IV. I am now off but still have problems. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. I hope I heal completely and quickly
