I'm on day 12 of a 14 day course of Avelox.

I usually have problems with antibiotics that are of the Quinilone or Floxin family so I was worried about taking this medication.

I've hung in there so far. I seem to have had a middle ear infection caused by my sinusitis problems.

I have noticed some nausea, increased urination and tiredness. I haven't had any joint pain; maybe a bit of stiffness.

I never had antibiotic problems till the newer forms of the old antibiotics became popular. I know I'm allergic to sulfa drugs but never had problems with any other medications till recently.

Now I can't decide if it's worth the pain and misery to take the antibiotics that are now available.

I was prescribed Avelox 400mg for a bacteria infection for 10 days. When my pharmacist filled the prescription and gave it to me, he indicated if I have any type of joint pain to discontinue taking the medication and call my physician. After taking Avelox for 5 days I started to experience extreme pain in my right arm. I could not even brush my hair due to the excruciating pain. I stopped taking the medication right away and called my physician. Two days after stopping the medication, I still have severe pains in my arm. Unfortunately, my physician has not called me back and I am hoping that the pain will subside and not cause any other problems.

After completing the 10 doses My ankles started to hurt. They then swelled up, turned red and were putting off a large amount of heat. I couldn't walk due to the massive pain and swelling. Dr's thought I had Gout. Then they thought I may have Lyme disease. The latest Dr immediately thought it was caused by antibiotics. Went home and found my prescription from almost 2 months ago and it was AVELOX! Looked into the side effects and go figure...Swelling and joint pain in the knees or ankles. After the 2 months, the swelling and pain is starting to go away thank God! Never again will I take this medication!

DO NOT TAKE THIS MED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
I have been on this for 5 days and I feel horrible. My doctor prescribed fifteen (YES 15) days of this crap to me for sinusitis. The first couple of days I felt...ODD. Then I started having some tingling sensations and felt groggy. Thinking my doctor knew what he was doing, I plowed on to day 5. Today was the worst. Disorientation, lethargy, headache, tingling under my skin. I will NOT continue this and I am heading into the doctor tomorrow. After reading this and other sites....I have no idea why this would be prescribed for such a relatively minor problem. There are OTHER less threatening antibiotics in the arsenal to try first. I had no idea what I was getting into, but only if I could go back and say NO...... I just hope I haven't done permanent damage.

took one dose of avelox at 830pm yesterday and then took one dose of hydrocodone for cough at 1100pm. Woke up 2 hours later with ankle & wrist joint pain, swollen flushed face and upper extremeities, completely bloodshot eyes(no visible whites), fever, chills, neck stiffness, itching on neck, shoulders and arms, general body aches, overall joint stiffness. saw doc today and he said conjunctivitis-prescribed drops, and that it was just the infection I had running it's course. Now my husband does not want me to take this evenings dose. perplexed as I have some underlying connective tissue disease and I am not sure if the joint stuff and redness is just due to being out in the sun yesterday without sunscreen and the aftermath

I was prescribed Avelox after an ongoing sinius infection. I took 3 doses of the 14 day prescription. After the 2nd dose I started having extreme muscle & joint pain from my neck to my toes. I had a slight rash on my forarms and around my knee joints and I had itching on my feet that felt like biting flies. I was unable to move without pain for 3 days after that. My doctor prescribed Medrol dose pack steriods to help with the joint pain. After the first day of the steriods the itching on my feet worsend to extreme burning itching to the point I lost my mind with no sleep and overdosed on benadryl. I slept that off and continued to have muscle pain/joint pain. I started researching on the web and found that this class of drugs can be very toxic to the body. I found a support group online and they gave me some advise to help with the pain. As of this day it's been 8 days since the first dose and I would say the pain is 90% gone (thank God)
