Avelox and dry mouth

I took Avelox for a sinus infection, and had the worst week of my life! It made me so thirsty, I had to have a bottle of water at my side constantly. I am a singer, and it dried out my throat and made my vocal chords swollen. Also, it gave me panic attacks, confusion and ruined the show I had to perform in. Next time, I will just live with the sinus infection. This was hell!

I took Avelox for the first time yesterday evening at 9pm for a sinus infection. I awoke having to pee at 4:30am. On my way back to bed I became extremely dizzy, laid down-felt worse. My stomach was in pain and I felt I had to throw up (although I never threw up). I had chills and hot sweats. I couldn't fall back asleep because my heart was beating so fast. I have a continuous tingling throughout my body all the way to my toes.

Having to go to work at 8am- I still have the above symptoms, as I write, along with swollen eye lids and dry mouth. Driving to work was a chore and my hands while typing this are extremely heavy and somewhat uncontrollable. Meanwhile, my sinus infection is getting better.

I would advise anyone who has sensitivity overall to medications- not to take this drug.

I had very similar problems to Avelox. I was given a 10 day cycle and around the fifty day I started to to feel very tired and weak, dry mouth, My legs feel like I ran 20 miles or more. I was happy to come across this site. Last night I decided to go to the ER and have my self checked out, they ran some blood tests and the found that my calcium, magnesium, potassium, and my electrolytes are a little high. The ER are doc told me that Avelox cold not have caused it because he had looked up the side effects and nothing was related to it. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT. MY DOC ALSO TOLD ME TO TAKE ALEVE, ADVIL. THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED IT COULD HAVE A SERIOUS AFFECT IF TAKEN TOGETHER. I GOING TO STOP TAKING IT NOW. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

Do NOT take Avelox! As a result of taking it for a sinus infection, I now have acute hepatitis. On Feb. 14, 2008, Bayer Corp., which makes Avelox, notified its doctors in Europe that dangerous liver damage and/or skin rashes can occur in "rare cases." U.S. docs weren't notified. My doc prescribed it to me along with prednisone. Gastric problems began almost immediately, but I didn't make the connection. I thought I just felt so bad because of the sinus infection. My urine turned orange and I became deathly ill. Tests revealed non-viral hepatitis (not contagious, in other words). My liver counts were in the thousands! They are slowly going down, but I have lost two months of my formerly active life so far. I lost 15 lbs. in a week. I am weak and still have problems eating. I was healthy as a horse before. My life was hell for the first month--sweating, itching, dry eyes, dry mouth, couldn't sleep, diarrhea. I still have no energy can can't eat enough to gain weight. You don't want to mess with your liver. I feel lucky that a GI doc has been watching my counts and guiding my care. All you can do is rest and try to eat and stay hydrated. I have a long way to go, but at least I'm not on the liver transplant list--it was that bad before. I am angry that U.S. doctors weren't warned. The side effects listed for Avelox don't mention what happened to me. I am trying to get info on a possible class action suit against Bayer for knowing this drug causes liver failure and not telling U.S. doctors.

I went to the Dr office for help sinus and kidney bladder infection. My regular Dr was off so I seen his partner. He prescribed Avelox , he said it would take care of both. I filled the script. When I got home my kids and their families had come to visit . so I took my pill ,started to cook. 15 minutes later it was time to sit down( they wanted breakfast food) I started to itch. The itch got worse to where I wanted to scratch my skin off . I got up from the table and went to the bathroom to grab some Benadryl pills I took 2 , they did not relieve anything so I jumped into an ice cold shower, still no relief. I called my youngest into the bathroom and said u have to take me some where now . At that point I was nervous , sunburn effect, eyes bloodshot a solid hive from head to toe and swollen really bad all over, mouth , throat and tongue really dry.confusion weak and sick to my stomach.. When I got to the ambulatory the nurse ask me insurance questions, a few minutes later I said all that is on file , look lady I can't think straight , my legs are weak and I feel like I could throw up on you as I am leaning on the counter more to keep me from falling. I said it a second time as all most of my weight is on that counter now. Then my daughter said I think she needs a wheel chair now. They got me into the wheel chair and into the room Which i don't remember getting there) stood me up and onto the first step they didn't turn me around then i just fell onto the table. The nurse said u have to turn over so I can get your vitals. I finally got turned over and she took my blood pressure. she said u have to go to the hospital, I said call my girl in and she can take me. she said no u have to go by ambulance I said she can take me and she replied back to me --------look lady u are fighting for your life, your blood pressure is 60 over 40 and dropping.they put oxygen mask on me and off we went. At the hospital the Dr gave me 3 intervenes shot and I think I passed out a few hours later I awoke and hives started to go away, but I was still anxious and weak when I left.he prescribed Prednisone and Pepcid A week and a half i still have problems sleeping and anxious but getting better will never take that pill again. I never have reactions to meds.

VERY dry mouth after the 4th day and after reading all the other inquiries, I think today will be my last as I do not want to experience anything else!

After 6 out of 10 pills taken I have severe head pain, severe neck pain, weak, dizzy, panic attack, dry mouth, etc. Sinusitis was the diagnosis and I was so dehydrated I had 2 bags of IV. I am now off but still have problems. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. I hope I heal completely and quickly

I have been taking Avelox for five days after being diagnossed with pneumonia. I was prescribed other drugs as well and has since stopped taking those because of adverse side affect.Since the Avelox has been my only medication, and I have experienced an array of side affects. I have been having trouble sleeping, vomitting, stomach pains, dry mouth,headaches, muscle fatigue, and other abnormalities that have been a nuisance throughout. I understand medications affect people in a variety of ways, but to cure one problem and create numerous more is ludicrous. Has To Be A Better Way!!!!!!

I took Avelox as I left the doctor's office. ( she had given me a sample) I was driving my 2 year old daughter home when I began to feel panic, fear, Tremors, tingling in my head, dizziness and an overall sense of illness. We live in the country, and I was afraid if I pulled over, no one would stop for a long time, and my daughter would be caught in the car. It took all my focus to get us home, and I felt if I could just get her in the house, I would call the ambulance, and she'd be safe.

I was weak and dizzy, so first I called my husband to tell him to come home and to call a squad. He called the neighbor, and she came right over. We both called the doctor I had just left, and a pharmacist. They told me I had an adverse effect to the medicine, and to drink lots of water. I was also experiencing severe dry mouth, and a headache, muscle fatique, and tingling.

With 4 glasses of water the symptoms began to subside. Later that night, I had occasional chest pains. I was told by the physician to stop using the drug.

I have since found out the label says "Do not Drive". I am so thankful nothing happened to my baby daughter, and we were able to make it home safely.
