Avelox and drugs

Prescribed avelox for sinus infection, 10 days worth, have taken 5 days, shortness of breath, weakness in limbs, gaseous stomach, Sinus infection feels a little better, but the shortness of breath has me a little worried. Anyone experiencing similar side effects to this medication?

I am on my fifth day taking Avelox. Today I noticed some increased anxiety and my ankles hurt?! A throbbing and frightening pain.. both ankles. I've already called my doctor and will go see him tomorrow. I did not do anything strenuous at all that would cause this. The anxiety is killing me!

I took one Avelox on Friday March 21, 2008 to treat a sinus infection and within 5 minutes my face, back and arms turned beat red. As I looked in the mirror I could see that my lips were very swollen. Within 10 minutes my entire body was beat red and I was extremely itchy especially my head and back. I figured I was having a reaction to the medication so I took a Benadryl which did not seem to work until I took the second dose. I ended up feeling sick the entire day and really achy from head to toe. I had terrible pains in my stomach and every time I stood up I felt as if I were going to fall back down. I was very dizzy and felt just out of it. I was also sneezing nonstop. I went to the doctor and was told that this medication works well for a sinus infection but one of the side effects is an allergic reaction. I have not taken another one since Friday but today is Sunday and I am still a bit red, still itchy (especially my head), still dizzy and still feel out of it.

Was prescribed Avelox for bronchitis. Third day of taking it I was feeling paranoid, terrified, having terrible nightmares, not sleeping, dizzy, nauseated and crushing chest pain. Called my doctor who refused to believe it was the Avelox which was the only drug I was on. He prescribed Biaxin to replace it which only made things worse. I would NEVER take either of these drugs again and I have changed doctors. My mother had to be hospitalized with hallucinations about 15 years ago after taking Biaxin. She has never really completely recovered her life because of that. She was out of work for months and lost her job. She now has anxiety attacks which she never had before. Drugs like this should be illegal.

I had Avelox prescribed after severe pneumonia. It kicked the pneumonia, but there has to be a better option. I am a little scared right now. I took my fourth (and last) pill this morning, feeling pretty good. The last 3 nights I have not slept despite being wiped out from pneumonia and type A flu. I was hallucinating mildly, as soon as I close my eyes or turn the lights, I get a real light show and weird images coming at a frantic pace. My heart races, my neck feels stiff and pressured, I can not concentrate, and I just feel too weird to describe.

1 hour after taking the medicine this morning, all these symptoms returned, stronger than before. I now feel a bit depressed. I started studying Avelox as soon as these symptoms returned. If you are reading this, I hope you were smart enough to research Avelox before taking. There is a ton of scary stories about this poison on the internet. I am now experience heart palpitations every couple of minutes, though I have had arrhythmias before, but not consistently. I have looked at a lot of websites with patient feedback on drugs, and I never imagined that anyone would proscribe a medicine with so little positive feedback and some many horrible stories. I was given Avelox after sinus surgery in August. I called the doctor told them I felt awful sick and nauseated. He switched me to another antibiotic. Here I am in December still not better been on at least two other antibiotics since the bought in August. I started Augmentin 3 weeks ago and had horrible itching after about a week being on it. Went back to my Doctor who out put me back on Avelox. Took the first dose at about 9 am within 30 minutes my throat was itchy and I was breaking out in hives and went into a panic attack. Took Benadryl as well as was prescribed Xanax for anxiety attacks still going on. I don't know if it is the fear of my throat closing but my pharmacy now has warnings for me for Penicillins as well as Avelox related drugs. Never had drug reactions before ever now . Went back to ENT put me on Medro pak which after seeing an allergist recommended. He also wanted me on Biaxin but I am not taking it at this point. There are allergy tests for drugs I would recommend and anyone experiencing any side effects to be checked after reactions to Avelox after reading this board I realize I was having an allergic reaction the first time in August and never should have been on it again.

I went to my doctor this past Thursday because I was experiencing ringing in my ears for about a month. No other symptoms other than the ringing - and it was just quite annoying. Doc put me on Avelox and Prednisone for a sinus infection. Took the first dose Thursday and the second Friday morning. Within and hour, the back of my head and neck were so full of intense pressure and pain. I felt dizzy, unsteady, sweaty and panicky. Called the doc who said that I wouldn't react that fast, and it was probably just part of the sinus infection. Continued to take both drugs all weekend, but still felt the intense pain and pressure after taking the Avelox. Last night, woke up around midnight with severe panic attack, disorientation, pain and pressure in the back of my head and neck - Scary! I called my doc and I told him I'm not taking it anymore. I had NO symptoms when I went to see him and left with more "stuff" going on in my head now! I'm going to see an ENT now.

I have been taking Avelox for five days after being diagnossed with pneumonia. I was prescribed other drugs as well and has since stopped taking those because of adverse side affect.Since the Avelox has been my only medication, and I have experienced an array of side affects. I have been having trouble sleeping, vomitting, stomach pains, dry mouth,headaches, muscle fatigue, and other abnormalities that have been a nuisance throughout. I understand medications affect people in a variety of ways, but to cure one problem and create numerous more is ludicrous. Has To Be A Better Way!!!!!!
