Long term prednisolone in nephrotic syndrome

Posted at 3: 0 PM on Jul 04, 2008 by lolsmom, #6644
My 8 year old daughter has been on pred since feb starting on mg per day and now down to 10mg every other day. The tantrums and aggressive behavior is getting worse - has anyone else found that as you are decreasing the dose, the side effects get worse?

i have been on prednisone for over twenty years for failing kidneys due to strep throat. when first diagnosed i was on 20mg when i was 13. for the most part it was the swelling and weight gain i struggled with, but after a kidney transplant i have been reduced to 5mg to slow some of the side effects of prednisone, but there is a rage if you want were certain situations can set you off. when these happen your not controlling your self, it feels like something else taking over your body. i was very aggresive and breaking things, but by focusing on other things like running, there is a outlet for that energy. i will once in awhile let things build up and regret the words that come out but its no longer the physical kind. from what i understand it would take counseling, but i dont see how that controlls a chemical reaction inside you. its not that you have more episodes of anger, just more intense episodes...communication is the best solution i can recommend, if you can help diffuse situations earlier or come to more understandings, the easier and less intense the anger epsodes become... hope that helps..
