Is it safe to take advair and spiriva together

I have just been diagnosed with a moderate case of copd. I was given spiriva and advair to take. I have been reading so much pro/con about the meds that I am afraid to start taking them........Should they be taken together or should I wait a few hours between each other.
I too have been given Spiriva which controls my shortness of breath, but now I have also been put on Advair HFA 115/21 inhaler.
Should both be taken together and if so, when do I take each one? I have been disgnosed with severe COPD.
