cerebral atrophy with Wellbutrin?

Posted at 7: 0 PM on Jun 24, 2008 by lakerun, #6520
I recently had an MRI of my brain and the only finding was "cerebral atrophy." I'm only 33 years old, so I should not have atrophy at this age. I don't drink a lot, and the only medication I take is Wellbutrin. Has anyone else developed cerebral atrophy while on Wellbutrin? I don't know if this is coincidental or cause and effect.

I don't know if the development of cerebral atrophy is coincidental or not, but I have been taking Wellbutrin for several years and have had a decrease in cognitive quickness and memory. I thought it was because of my age - 60. I am thinking of seeing a physician about this, but now I am wondering if maybe it is the Wellbutrin. I wonder what other people's experiences are with this drug? I didn't think you were supposed to drink with anti-depressants. You might try not drinking for a month or two and see if that improves your cognitive symptoms. If you are not willing to try abstaining for a period of time, that might tell you how important alcohol is to you. I learned that alcohol had greatly contributed to my depression. I am not saying that is true for you, but that was my experience.
